SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
Following an inspection this morning at the stables of trainer Mr A. Chau by the Compliance Assurance Stewards, where an unopened bottle of the prohibited substance Hemoplex was detected, Stewards interviewed Mr Chau about the matter. Subsequently, Mr Chau pleaded guilty to a charge under AR252A(1) for having at his stable premises, an injectable product (Hemoplex), which contains cobalt salts and was fined $500.


GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweight:
Race 6. B. Lerena +0.5kg


Race 1: SEQ FORMWORK MAIDEN HANDICAP         2225 Metres
 
CROC FIGHT – Apprentice D. McGillivray reported the gelding raced very keenly in the early stages with the blinkers on for the first time. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
SPACE JOURNEY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
BOLERO – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Passing the 500m, steadied from the heels of the weakening CROC FIGHT, shifted out abruptly and inconvenienced SASSY TAP.
 
MAD ANA – Near the 100m, when struck with the whip, momentarily shifted in before being corrected.
 
SASSY TAP (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Inconvenienced passing the 500m. Rider T. Brooker reported after beginning awkwardly, the saddle shifted back slightly on the mare, placing her at somewhat of a disadvantage throughout the race.
 

Race 2: BOSTIK SMART ADHESIVES QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP  1000 Metres
 
KING OF VALHALLA – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 800m, steadied when tightened for room by KAHLUA GIRL (D. Turner), which shifted in before being corrected. Rider D. Turner was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
STRATTON – Slow to begin.
 
CAT CALL – Near the 700m, was hampered.
 
GET READY LASS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed heat stress.
 
KAHLUA GIRL - A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a laceration to the near hind fetlock, consistent with being galloped on. Trainer P. Shailer was advised that KAHLUA GIRL will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
MISHANI UNDERCOVER – Slow to begin.
 
SPIRITOF THE OCEAN – Raced three wide without cover.
 
VERY DEMURE – Raced three wide with cover.
 
CODE BUSTER – Inconvenienced near the 700m.
 
SON OF A LIE – Slow to begin. Raced four wide without cover.
 
M. Hellyer, rider of GET READY LASS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a), in that near the 700m, he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of KAHLUA LASS, which was momentarily tightened onto KING OF VALHALLA, before being obliged to shift out across heels, and in doing so, hampering CAT CALL. In shifting out, KAHLUA GIRL contacted the heels of GET READY LASS. M. Hellyer’s license to ride in races was suspended for 9 days commencing at midnight the 29th of March 2025 and ending at midnight the 7th of April 2025. In assessing penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, record and the QRIC Careless Riding Guidelines.
 

Race 3: DIABLO ACCESSORIES QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP      1200 Metres

DATA SCRAMBLE – Slow to begin.
 
DIAMOND EPIC – Near the 1000m, steadied to avoid the heels of CONCESSION (apprentice S. Ingelse), which shifted out. Apprentice S. Ingelse was reprimanded under for AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
 
SWITCH TO GO – Bumped on jumping.
 
OOHLALOUVRE – Began awkwardly and bumped. Laid out rounding the home turn and when under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer J. Bruce was advised of the provisions of AR79(4).
 
 
Race 4: DEWALT GUARANTEED TOUGH MAIDEN HANDICAP         1200 Metres

WINCHMAN – Began awkwardly. Apprentice C. Sutherland was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out fully to the end of the race. Apprentice Sutherland reported the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer P. Shailer reported WINCHMAN would now head for a spell.
 
JUSTAFEVER – Late withdrawal at 1.15pm after suffering an injury to the near hip enroute to the racecourse. Trainer B Ahrens was advised a veterinary certificate of fitness is required prior to racing again.
 
ZAYA – Began awkwardly.

ONE DREAM AWAY – Slipped behind when leaving the gates. Raced wide with cover. Approaching the 200m, steadied when attempting to improve into a tight run between BLACK ASSASSIN and MOONLIGHT KICKS.
 
TORERA – Raced wide without cover.
 
BLACK ASSASSIN – Had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the home turn.
 
 

Race 5: TOTAL TOOLS PRICE BEAT GUARANTEE OPEN HANDICAP       1400 Metres

AZZAREACH – On arrival at the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination after a small laceration was found on its gum. Rider M. Hellyer reported the gelding raced keenly in the lead and when challenged by HOLLYWOOD NORTH early, would not settle and was under pressure coming to the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
 

Race 6: MAKITA AUSTRALIA BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP              1800 Metres

THE HUNGARIAN – Began awkwardly and bumped. Shortly after the start was eased when racing in restricted room between PATTI WAGGIN, which was tight to the inside of PRINCETON AWARD and AUTUMN MISS, which was taken out slightly by WHISTLING SPIRIT, which was laying out. Near the 1500m, eased when racing in restricted room between RED MILE and YOU AND I, which was tight to the inside of BACKLIT BEAUTY (B. Lerena). Rider B. Lerena was advised to exercise more care. Inconvenienced near the 1000m.
 
RED MILE – Passing the 1500m, steadied when tightened by AUTUMN MISS, which had improved to the inside of TWINKLE TIME (M Wishart), which shifted in slightly when not quite clear. Rider M. Wishart was advised to exercise more care.
 
 
YOU AND I (NZ) – Inconvenienced near the 1000m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed superficial abrasions to the near hind leg consistent with being galloped on and had lost the near hind plate.
 
TWINKLE TIME – Contacted on the hindquarters near the 1000m.
 
BACKLIT BEAUTY – When being steadied to find cover near the 1000m, contacted the hindquarters of TWINKLE TIME, turning that horse sideways. When obtaining cover behind TWINKLE TIME for several strides, caused some inconvenience to YOU AND I and THE HUNGARIAN.
 
PATTI WAGGIN – Began awkwardly and bumped.
 

Race 7: TOTAL TOOLS BURLEIGH WATERS CLASS 3 PLATE         1000 Metres

MISS DE BLAAS underwent a veterinary inspection on arrival at the barriers after its rider had concerns with the mare’s action. MISS DE BLAAS was found to be lame in the near hind leg and declared a late withdrawal at 4.04pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets on MISS DE BLAAS be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st GREAT BARRIER REEF 1c win, 4c place
2nd DON’T BE DRAMATIC 7c place
 
Trainer M. Kropp was advised MISS DE BLAAS will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
STANISLAUS – Blundered on jumping.
 
GREAT BARRIER REEF – Began awkwardly.
 
JEWELS STATEMENT – Began awkwardly.
 
Following the running of this race, the track was downgraded to a Soft 6.

Race 8: THOROUGHBRED SALES BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP         1400 Metres

HULKAMANIA – For some distance passing the 1000m raced tight to the inside of SEA OF QI (D. Turner). LION CLASS, which was racing just off HULKAMANIA was badly inconvenienced. Rider D. Turner was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) and was advised he must provide sufficient racing room to runners to his inside.
 
LION CLASS – Bumped on jumping. Badly inconvenienced passing the 1000m.
 
SLY CORNER (NZ) – In the early stages of the home straight, laid in. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled for the right nostril. Trainer B. Reardon was advised of the provisions of AR79(8).
 
KATDEEL – Slow to begin then bumped. Passing the 200m, steadied and shifted out to obtain clear running.
 
SHOUTS ALL DAY – Near the 300m, momentarily steadied from the heels of FAT FINGERS, which rolled out. Then laid in under pressure proving difficult to ride.
