Race 1: Sparkman’s Cabinets and Joinery Class 4 Handicap- 1194 metres
1st – COUNTERSHY 2nd - LUNCH IN THE SUN 3rd - RUNATUN 4th – HARDLY A GAME
RUNATUN (D. Whitmore) was slow into stride.
LUNCH IN THE SUN (A. Coome) raced wide in the early and middle stages.
Race 2: Rosella Park School Maiden Plate- 1194 metres
1st - MY BEAUTY 2nd - LAST ARCH 3rd - COMET’S KINGDOM 4th – BUCHANAN BOY
At the start, MY BEAUTY (M. Barnham) jumped out.
COMET’S KINGDOM (G. Lee) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with BUCHANAN BOY (M. Cant)
LAST ARCH (A. Coome) raced in a 3 wide position for majority of the event.
Jockey M. Cant reported BUCHANAN BOY was reluctant to travel in the early stages, due to the sand being thrown back, and raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 3: Central Queensland Petroleum Class B Handicap- 1517 metres
1st - TUSCANY AFFAIR 2nd – PRANK CALLER 3rd – AIR WAVES 4th – KALKIE MISS
KANTUCKI (S. Evans) was difficult to load.
PRANK CALLER (L. Dillon) and TUSCANY AFFAIR (A. Coome) knuckled over on jumping away.
KANTUCKI raced wide, and Jockey S. Evans reported the gelding was inclined to hang out throughout the event.
BELLARA GOLD (J. Stephens) and AIRWAVES (M. Barnham) raced wide throughout.
A post-race veterinary inspection of BELLARA GOLD failed to reveal any apparent abnormality.
Race 4: Green Pepper Catering Class 1 Handicap- 1000 metres
1st – MY MARGARITA 2nd - BEAUTIFUL DIVKA 3rd – GENERAL POMPEI 4th – GOLD WAR
At the start, FLASH ROMEO (R. Hall) jumped away awkwardly and lost considerable ground. Stewards will seek an explanation from Trainer A. Jones in relation to the gelding’s recent barrier manners and also the apparent failure to remain on course for the required time.
Shortly after the start, PETITE CHARMEUR (D. Whitmore) threw its head in the air and lost some ground. Jockey D. Whitmore reported his mount was reluctant to race in the middle stages, due to the sand being thrown back, and raced wide for the remainder of the event.
MY FELLA (M. Cant), BEAUTIFUL DIVKA (G. Lee) and FLASH ROMEO (R. Hall) raced wide throughout.
Jockey G. Lee pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 137A(5)(a)(i) in that he used his whip in a forehand manner in consecutive strides prior to the 100 metres. Jockey G. Lee was fined $100.
Furthermore, Jockey G. Lee pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip in a forehand manner on more than the 5 occasions permissible prior to the 100 metres. Jockey G. Lee was fined $300. In regard to penalty on both charges, Stewards took into consideration mitigating circumstances.
Race 5: Central Queensland Petroleum Open Handicap- 1000 metres
1st - RUBY FRISCO 2nd – TOP’S LAD 3rd – LADY IN SILK 4th – HANDY HERO
RUBY FRISCO (M. Barnham) jumped away slightly awkward and raced wide at the rear of the field.
At approximately the 200 metres, LADY IN SILK (App A. Taylor) shifted out when placed under pressure, which required App Taylor to stop riding and straighten her mount.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of RUBY FRISCO in relation to its previous start, Trainer R. Vagg stated on that occasion the mare had suffered interference shortly after the start and, in his opinion, in today’s event was better suited on the sand surface and in a less competitive field.
