Race 1: James Boags Maiden Plate 850m

TOP KNOT – Began very awkwardly, shifted out and lost significant ground.

TOP MARK – Knuckled on jumping. Shortly after the start commenced to buck and took no competitive part in the event. Trainer B Johnson was advised that the mare would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to returning to racing.

NEW KINTARO – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced wide until near the 500 metres where Jockey M Crawford allowed his mount to stride forward and obtain a position outside the lead. Commenced to hang out from the 400 metres till upon straightening at the 250 metres.

I’M AMBRYM – Began awkwardly and floundered in the going on jumping. App. N Seymour advised that she elected to race wide from the 300 metres to avoid kickback.

Race 2: Summer Bright BenchMark 60 Handicap 850m

LUSHNESS – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

FRENCH FLAME – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced four wide without cover throughout.

KICKSTARTER – Hampered shortly after the start when FRENCH FLAME was dictated out. Jockey D Evans elected to restrain his mount and obtain cover due to being hampered shortly after the start rather than race wide. Held up for clear running leaving the 100 metres.

BOOT SHAKER – Shifted out on jumping hampering FRENCH FLAME. Raced wide with cover throughout. Inclined to lay out under pressure over the concluding stages.

NEED FINANCE – Raced three wide without cover.

BAGGER MUSCLES – Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight.


Race 3: Merry Xmas Class B Handicap 1194m

Prior to declaration of correct weight, Stewards were made aware that the photo finish had malfunctioned and that there was no photo finish print. Before declaring correct weight, Stewards viewed the available patrol film to confirm the placings, specifically that of second and third. After doing so, Stewards were satisfied with the judge’s semaphored numbers and declared correct weight.

The start was delayed when there was an issue with the barriers.

DUANSKILL – Jockey D Evans reported that his barrier gate was slow to open. After viewing the available patrol footage, Stewards were of the opinion that the barrier stall had malfunctioned disadvantaging DUANSKILL. As DUANSKILL had be declared second place by the judge, Stewards were unable to declare the gelding a non-starter as per AR134A.

MARQUANT – Began awkwardly.

WARNERS LANDING – Slow to begin.

SALTY’S BOY – Raced wide without cover throughout.

PLAYBOOK – Raced wide with cover throughout.

SAME OLD STORY – Dipped approaching the 1000 metres. Raced wide without cover throughout.

TOM’S STAR – Steadied near the 300 metres when CLEAR THE DEBT rolled in momentarily.

Jockey L Dillon was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100 metres.

Race 4: National Jockeys Trust BenchMark 60 Handicap 1194m

The photo finish equipment was tested after a malfunction in Race 3.

THIN DISGUISE – Slow to begin. Raced four wide without cover throughout.

BIG SHAKA – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover throughout.

SCAPA COVE – Dipped upon entering the course proper near the 1100 metres. Raced three wide with cover throughout.

MORE WORLDY – Shifted in abruptly shortly after the start tightening FAST ARLI and TYRANNIZE.

FAST ARLI – Tightened shortly after the start by MORE WORDLY.

TYRANNIZE – Tightened shortly after the start when FAST ARLI shifted in.

Race 5: James Squire BenchMark 55 Handicap 1517m

THE DECKERAIDER – Declared a late scratching at 11:50am due to transport difficulties.

FORT MYER – Bumped on jumping.

IF BY CHANCE – Bumped on jumping.

ATEACES – Slow into stride.

A WEE SHOCK – Raced wide throughout to avoid the kickback.

AUSSIE TYCOON – Laid out under pressure near the 200m. Stewards questioned Jockey K Gates regarding whether she had an opportunity to obtain cover in the middle stages. Jockey Gates stated that she was instructed to avoid kickback while remaining in a forward position. Stewards noted her explanation.
