Race 1: HAHN PREMIUM BENCHMARK 50 Handicap 850m

Following the running of the race stewards inquired with the starter Mr. G. Hughes and all riders engaged in the race. After consulting the starter and Jockeys it was determined that HARCASION ridden by App J. Doolan had broken through the barriers before the start was enacted which in the opinion of other riders opened the remining barriers. Mr G. Hughes stated that he attempted to enact the false start horn however it did not function correctly. Several riders reported that they believed that it was a false start and did not fully test their mounts during the running.

After hearing the evidence of the riders involved, the Stewards acting pursuant to AR205 declared the race null and void due to the above circumstances.

Stewards ordered all monies invested on the event to be refunded in full.

HARCASION underwent a post-race veterinary examination, and no significant abnormalities were detected.

Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that HARCASION would be required to pass two satisfactory barrier trials prior to racing again.

When questioned in regard to the tactics adopted, Jockey T. Chambers stated that after beginning well she wanted to get in to a rail position from the wide barrier however the runners to her inside kicked up and was unable to cross the field ultimately becoming trapped 5 wide in the early and middle stages.
