GENERAL

Trainers J. Lancaster, D. Rideout and D Schultz were questioned regarding the late declaration of riders at today’s meeting. Stewards accepted the reasons provided and took no further action.

Race 1: LITTLE HOUSE OF BEAUTY Maiden Plate 850m

The start of the event was delayed for some time to allow for the photo finish operator to arrive on course.

The event was further delayed when RADIANT ROMANCE broke through the barriers prior to the start being effected and galloped a short distance. RADIANT ROMANCE then underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.

The start was further delayed when OUR GOLD CLAIM proved difficult to load.

Following the running of the race apprentice G. Hogg made application to stewards for RADIANT ROMANCE to be declared a non-starter, as in her opinion the mare was not afforded a fair start. After hearing evidence from apprentice G. Hogg and reviewing the replays, stewards were satisfied that RADIANT ROMANCE had been afforded a fair start and the poor start could be contributed to the mare’s mannerisms.

OUR GOLD CLAIM – Proved difficult to load. Raced wide in the early stages. Trainer A. Stephens was advised that OUR GOLD CLAIM would have a warning placed on its record for proving difficult to load.

BICEPS – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.

RADIANT ROMANCE – Fractious prior to the start. Began very awkwardly and slow to begin as a result. Lost touch with the body of the field leaving the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Trainer D. Gardiner was advised that the mare would have a warning placed on its record due to its barrier manners.

REBEL’S DAUGHTER – Stewards gave permission to apprentice S. Neilson on Friday 15/12/23 at 1.13pm to ride the mare 2kg overweight due to no other rider being available at the time. When S. Neilson arrived on course, she advised stewards that she would be a further 2kg overweight. As jockey D. Baker had made a late decision on Friday 15/12/23 3:50pm to accept rides at the meeting he subsequently replaced apprentice S. Neilson. Apprentice S. Neilson was reprimanded under AR190(3) for accepting a ride for which she was overweight. When considering penalty stewards were mindful of the circumstances in which she was engaged for the ride, her guilty plea and forthright evidence. Began Awkwardly.

Race 2: GLADSTONE CINEMAS QTIS BENCHMARK 50 Handicap 1194m

SIP IT SLOW – As SIP IT SLOW raced on Tuesday the 12/12/23 the mare underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.  Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. Shifted outwards marginally over the concluding stages despite the efforts the rider, placing MISS DE BOOM in restricted room for a short distance.

ELECTRIC SPIRIT – Attempted to buck for some distance after the start. Connections were advised that the gelding would be stood down to one satisfactory trial for attempting to buck.

MISS DE BOOM – Apprentice S. Neilson weighed out 2kg overweight and was unable to make the handicapped weight, she was not replaced on the ride and permitted to ride 2kg overweight as there were no other riders available. Raced wide for the majority. Raced in restricted room for a short distance in the concluding stages when SIP IT SLOW shifted out marginally despite the efforts of its rider. Apprentice S. Neilson was fined $200 under AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.

LOVE MY LOUIS – Declared a late scratching at 7:56am as there was no rider available.

MISS RINEHART – Began very awkwardly and slow to begin as a result.

SETLIN SAGE – Improved three wide in the middle stages.

RAINBOW DREAMS – Declared a late scratching at 7:56am as there was no rider available.

Race 3: SALTT CLOTHING Class B Handicap 1000m

ELKA ELEVEN – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Apprentice B. Moffatt reported that his saddle slipped at the top of the home straight and subsequently the mare proved difficult to ride out.

ROCK DREAMER (NZ) – Raced in restricted room approaching the 600m. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice N. Olzard reported that once the gelding had been crossed leaving the 600m it resented the kickback and failed to run on as a result.

TESSELEIGHT – Slow into stride. Raced wide throughout.

COOL STORY – Declared a late scratching at 7:56am as there was no rider available.

MY GIRL SPIRIT – Stewards permitted jockey D. Baker to ride 2kg overweight as there were no other suitable riders available.  Slow into stride.

Race 4: SPLITTERS FARM OPEN Handicap 1000m

BEPPE – At the request of the trainer apprentice G. Hogg was granted permission to ride the gelding at the handicapped weight due to concerns of being ridden with an extremely small saddle.

ADAMAS PRINCE – Bucked for some distance after the start and lost considerable ground. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Trainer L. Kiernan was advised that the gelding would be stood down to one satisfactory trial prior to racing again.

ARCHER’S TREASURE – Stewards permitted jockey D. Baker to ride 2kg overweight as there were no other suitable riders available. Began awkwardly and subsequently was slow to begin. Lost touch with the field leaving the 800m and took no further competitive part in the event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Trainer J. Lancaster was advised that the gelding would have a warning placed on its record for being uncompetitive.

CINDERELLA MAN – Raced wide throughout. Jockey C. Lennon was assessed by QAS following the ride after he was indisposed upon returning to the scales. He was stood down pending a medical certificate prior to riding again.

Race 5: MERRY XMAS BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1517m

JELLISHOT – Apprentice N. Olzard reported that the gelding felt flat today and failed to respond when placed under pressure. When questioned into the performance of JELLISHOT in today’s event trainer D. Rideout reported that he was extremely disappointed in the run and that the gelding had been working well, he could offer no explanation in the performance of the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed JELLISHOT to be experiencing a poor post-race recovery.

LEICA BITA FUN – Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.

DELIUS – Slow into stride.
