GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following overweight:
Race 2.         Morgan Butler – +1kg
 
Stewards conducted random urine testing of multiple riders at today’s meeting.
 
Apprentice B. Moffat’s minimum riding was changed to 55kg (previous 56kg) prior to today’s meeting, however this wasn’t displayed in some publications and therefore claimed to the new minimum riding weight.
 
 
RACE 1: CONGRATULATIONS NATHAN & JORDAN RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 HANDICAP (850M)
 
DERBARI – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result. When questioned regarding today’s performance, Jockey C. Rogers stated that she wasn’t disappointed in the performance and advised DERBARI would derive benefit from today’s run. Jockey Rogers further stated that DERBARI would be better suited over further distances.  
 
AWESOME MISS – Shifted out on jumping, bumping with LAYLAH’S WISH. Put in an awkward stride near the 400m.
 
MOLLOY – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight and had to be corrected by its rider.
 
MAVERICK HENRY – Slow to begin. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
LAYLAH’S WISH – Shifted in on jumping, bumping with AWESOME MISS. Threw its head in the air shortly after the start. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
BALEXIA – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
 
 
RACE 2: BECOME A MEMBER CLASS B HANDICAP (1194M)
 
PLAYFUL KISS – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight and had to be eased to avoid the heels of COCO ROYALE near the 100m.
 
DIVINE KAMEHALANI – Apprentice B. Moffat advised that his mount was inclined to lay in throughout the event, more noticeably shortly after entering the home straight and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of COCO ROYALE near the 150m. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
ROMAN QUEEN – Bumped on jumping by COCO ROYALE which shifted out. Raced wide throughout. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
ANNIE’S TOP – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
COCO ROYALE – Shifted out on jumping, bumping ROMAN QUEEN. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
VANCOUVER LIGHTS – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
MISS TEAK – Commenced to buck shortly after the start for some distance and was steadied out of the event. Trainer J. Kuhn was advised that MISS TEAK would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next race start.
 
BREAKER BREAKER – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
RACE 3: HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHARON THOMSEN QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1194M)
 
FLAWLESS AMBITION – Hung in rounding the turn near the 1000m. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
POWERALONG – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
REOJOAN – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
TIME TO GET READY – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
 
Race 4: CQ FENCING OPEN HANDICAP (1000M)
 
HAN DYNASTY – Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
ASPEN LAD – Was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. When questioned regarding the performance in today’s event, Jockey C. McIver stated his mount failed to handle the track conditions and resented the kick back of the sand. Jockey McIver further stated when asked for an effort near the 600m, his mount failed to respond. Trainer D. Johnston stated that he would assess the condition of ASPEN LAD in the days subsequent, however suggested his intentions at this stage would be to give the gelding a freshen up.
 
JAMESATELLI – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery and abnormal breathing. Trainer G. Clem was advised that JAMESATELLI would require a veterinary clearance which includes the result of an endoscopic examination prior to its next race start.  
 
MAMARAGAN – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
 
IRISH MAUDIE – Slow to begin.
 
GIDDY UP GIDLEIGH – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin.
 
 
Race 5:GLADSTONE CUP 10TH AUGUST B 50 HANDICAP (1517M)
 
MUIRON – Stood flat footed as the start was affected. Jockey/Trainer C. Rogers was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record.
 
AWESOME SPIRIT – Was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping.
 
MONT ROYAL – Was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping. Upon returning to scale, Jockey M. Butler advised that MONT ROYAL commenced to hang from the 1000m and felt awkward in its action upon entering the home straight and elected to not place his mount under pressure over the concluding stages. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer A. Briskey was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
 
COLHOUN – When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, Jockey/Trainer B. Newport advised that COLHOUN had been working extremely well in the lead up to today’s event and stated that he was expecting a forward showing. Jockey/Trainer Newport further added that the step up in distance today may have attributed to today’s performance.
 
RUFFIN’ IT (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
READYENTIME – Slow into stride.
