QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT GLADSTONE TURF CLUB INC GLADSTONE - SATURDAY – 10TH AUGUST 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Sand - RAIL – TruePENETROMETER – N/A OFFICIALS Chair of Stewards – S LarkinsStewards – G Wust GENERALRace 3 jockey Colin Lennon was permitted to ride 1kg overweight. Race 1: BYRON BAY LAGER BENCHMARK 50 Handicap (850 METRES) The start of this race was delayed significantly after WHITTLESFORD galloped a significant distance when apprentice B Youngberry lost use of her stirrup irons before being dislodged. WHITTLESFORD was declared a late scratching at 12.45pm and the following betting deductions ordered on bets placed prior to 12.45pm. All win bets paid less 6 cents on the face value of the ticket.All place bets paid less 7 cents on the face value of the ticket. Apprentice B Youngberry was examined by the QAS staff and cleared of any injuries inclusive of signs of concussion and was cleared to take her remaining rides. EXTREMAATRY – Began awkwardly. VADABOOM (NZ) – Shifted wider rounding the home turn. KARAKAROO – Jumped outwards at the start. LANOVA – Slow to begin and a warning was issued. BALEXIA – Jumped inwards at the start. DEFROSTED – Crowded for room at the start. Slow into stride. THE STORM – Slow into stride. TORQUE NOWOR NEVER – Raced wide throughout. Race 2: HERON ISLAND Maiden Plate (1194 METRES) FREE CHOICE – Underwent a saddle adjustment behind the barriers. Blundered on jumping. TIME TO TURN – When questioned, apprentice L Martyn advised that after settling towards the rear TIME TO TURN commenced to improve into the race rounding the home and nearing the 200m she dropped her right rein which resulted in a loss of momentum for a short distance. Miss Martyn further added that TIME TO TURN’s best form is over longer distances than that of today’s event. KUROMI SAMA – Proved difficult to load. Slow to begin. Apprentice B Youngberry advised that her mount resented the kick back and failed to handle the sand conditions. Trainer T Simmons concurred with the thoughts of the rider. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. TWO OF US – Proved difficult to load. Raced wide throughout. Race 3: WAYNE WILSON MEMORIAL QTIS BENCHMARK 60 Handicap (1000 METRES) I’M PINKER – Tightened for room between runners at the start and settled towards the rear. Apprentice L Martyn advised that after suffering interference at the start, the mare then resented the kick back and was not suited by the conditions. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. DAUNTING LADY – Slow to begin. Raced wide around the home turn. HARCASION – Reared prior to the start. CINDERELLA MAN – Colin Lennon permitted to ride 1kg overweight. Rider C Lennon was reprimanded under AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out fully over the final stages. In adopting this approach stewards were satisfied that CINDERELLA MAN had finished in the best possible placing despite the riders lack of vigour. MISS RINEHART – Raced wide around the home turn. Race 4: DICEYS LIQUOR WAREHOUSE GLADSTONE NEWMARKET OPEN Handicap (1194 METRES) EYEWITNESS – Pulled hard in the early and middle stages before obtaining the lead near the 700m. It was noted that the saddle had slipped back during the run. Race 5: XXXX GOLD GLADSTONE CUP OPEN Handicap (1608 METRES) CAFFREY (NZ) – Briefly tightened for room rounding the fist turn when MERLOMANN shifted outwards marginally when the tempo of the race eased. MERLOMANN – Began awkwardly. Shifted outwards marginally around the first turn when the tempo of the race eased. Trailed the field from the 800m. Jockey H Phillips advised that her mount failed to handle the sand track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. A warning has been placed on the record of the gelding for a poor performance. DELIUS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 6: DEPARTURE POINT RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap (1517 METRES) LEICA BITA FUN – Raced wide throughout. BRAIN FOG – Raced wide throughout. Hung out and raced very wide rounding the home turn. CASH ARTIST – Held up for a clear run rounding the home turn. Jockey Colin Lennon was found guilty of a charge under AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount over the final 50 metres which in the opinion of stewards cost his mount the opportunity of finishing in third place. The license to ride in races of Mr Lennon was suspended for two weeks to commence midnight 17 August 2024. In assessing penalty stewards considered the riders not guilty plea, he was reprimanded under the same rule in race three, his overall longstanding good record and the QRIC racing penalty guidelines. VANCOUVER LIGHTS – Jockey H Phillips advised that her mount was inclined to hang out over the final 600m which placed her at a disadvantage when riding the horse out over the concluding stages. PORTOLA (NZ) – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result.
