QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT GLADSTONE TURF CLUB INC 8 MARCH 2025 WEATHER – FINE TRACK – SAND RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman – H GillettStewards – E Suli GENERAL Due to the forecast temperatures this race meeting was conducted under QRIC’s Caring for Racing Animals in Extreme Heat policy. Due to the impending cyclone in southeast Queensland apprentice J Bussuttin and apprentice I Jessop were unable to ride at today’s meeting. Stewards permitted replacement riders as per the race day summary. Race 1: BOB LISLE BENCHMARK 50 Handicap (850 METRES) BORNEO – Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. When questioned on the seemingly improved performance trainer L Kiernan stated that the gelding had been working well in the lead up to today and the additions of blinkers today proved beneficial to its chances in the event. LITTLE MISS BELLE – Raced wide throughout. GETTING’ LIPPY – Raced wide early. Raced keenly in the early stages when attempting to find a position with cover. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight. GOTTA HERO – Began awkwardly. VALENTINA EXPRESS – Blundered on jumping and slow into stride as a result. LOVE MY LOUIS – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. Race 2: TONY REYNOLDS OPEN Handicap (850 METRES) SVINDAL – Bounded on jumping. TAKE THE LEAD – Raced wide in the early stages. Inclined to lay outwards over the concluding stages. MR TANGLES – Shifted outwards on jumping. IMPACTFULL MISS – Shifted outwards on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages. EXTREMAARTY – Shifted outwards shortly after the start. Raced wide in the early stages. Inclined to lay outwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. When questioned in relation to the seemingly poor performance jockey C McIver stated that in his opinion the horse raced flat and may benefit from a short freshen up. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Race 3: BRIAN IBBOTSON QTIS Maiden Plate (1194 METRES) LITTLE FREDDY – Carried wider around the home turn by SHE’S GOT IT. SPITZBERG – Trainer I Prizeman was questioned in relation to the late declaration of rider. Stewards accepted the reason tendered due to the limited number of riders at today’s meeting and took the matter no further. Shifted outwards on jumping. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. SHE’S GOT IT – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Laid outwards rounding the home turn and carried LITTLE FREDDY wider. Inclined to lay outwards when under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Race 4: GLADSTONE HARBOUR FESTIVAL EASTER SATURDAY RACES BENCHMARK 60 Handicap (1194 METRES) CAVE DIVER (GB) – Stewards heard submissions put forward by trainer I Prizeman in regard to CAVE DIVER (GB) being scratched, after apprentice I Jessop was unable to attend today’s meeting, as Mr Prizeman would like a claiming apprentice to ride the mare due to the heavy weight impost today. As there were no other claiming apprentices available to replace Ms Jessop, stewards accepted Mr Prizeman’s submissions and subsequently declared CAVE DIVER (GB) a scratching at 7:53am. CAVENTE – Began awkwardly and bumped YOUNG HENRY. FROSTY BEAR – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages. YOUNG HENRY – Buffeted between CAVENTE and MISS RINEHEART shortly after the start for some distance and lost ground as a result. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. Upon returning to scales apprentice M Apel reported her mount had felt lame in the right fore over the concluding stages. A subsequent post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a stone bruise in the right fore. Trainer D Johnstone was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again. CHILLI PALMER – When asked to comment on the performance trainer L Wanless stated that the gelding may not have handle the track conditions today and may need a freshen up prior to its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Mr Wanless was advised that a warning would be placed on CHILLI PALMER for its poor performance. MISS RINEHART – Began awkwardly bumping YOUNG HENRY. Raced in restricted room for some distance near the 1000m and had to be momentarily restrained. Race 5: LIZ WHITEHEAD BENCHMARK 55 Handicap (1517 METRES) KELLERS SHELTER – Began awkwardly and slow into stride as a result. When questioned in relation to the performance trainer L Wanless stated that he was disappointed with the performance and could offer no explanation other than that the gelding had failed to handle the track conditions today. He further added that moving forward he would look to race KELLERS SHELTER on grass surfaces. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. SIDESHOW FRANKIE – Bumped with LEICA BITA FUN on jumping. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. LEICA BITA FUN – Bumped by SIDESHOW FRANKIE on jumping. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. When questioned in relation to the seemingly improved performance trainer D Shultz stated that the gelding had been working well leading into today and he was expecting a forward showing due to the drop back in class today. BEN STARS – Blundered on jumping.
