SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From Dalby 3.11.13 - Race 3: Stewards concluded their inquiry into the riding tactics adopted by Apprentice R. Ride on SELL THE SILVER. Of concern to stewards were the reasons for SELL THE SILVER losing ground after leaving the home straight on the first occasion and racing a significant distance from the main body of the field until near the 800m. R. Ride stated that her instructions were to ride with cover and improve from the 600m. She added that after beginning awkwardly she positioned her mount on the rail at the tail of the field. She further added that after leaving the crossing near the 1400m, SELL THE SILVER commenced to hang in which required her to place pressure on the outside rein in an attempt to get her mount away from the running rail, and that she lost ground due to her not being able to place pressure on her mount. R. Ride went on to add that her mount felt terrible in its action and would not stride out. Trainer B. Currie confirmed the instructions. The inquiry was then adjourned on the day to consider the evidence and to review the recent runs and racing pattern of SELL THE SILVER. Stewards after considering the evidence advised R. Ride that her riding in the early and middle stages had come under notice of the stewards however acknowledged that her mount was inclined to lay in and did appear awkward in its action at relevant stages of the race. Stewards also acknowledged that a veterinary examination of SELL THE SILVER post-race revealed lameness in the off fore leg and with this report and considering the evidence provided, took no further action in the matter. Trainer B. Currie advised that after a recent disappointing performance, a decision had been made to retire SELL THE SILVER.
From Dalby 23.11.13 – Race 1: Apprentice J. Orman (MUSICIAN) was fined the sum of $100 for using his whip in a forehand manner in excess of 5 times prior to the 100m.

R. Ride, the rider of TAILWIND, which performed below market expectations, stated that her mount travelled well to the home turn, however failed to respond to her riding and felt awkward in its action in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of TAILWIND revealed no significant findings.
Stewards questioned apprentice M. McGillivray with regards to his riding of PERFORMIA from the 600m until rounding the home turn. M. McGillivray stated that his mount does not begin well and for this reason his instructions were to obtain cover. He added that he followed BRADY 'N' ME (L. Appo) throughout the event and felt that that horse would take him into the race, however his mount lost momentum approaching the 600m which required him to pressure PERFORMIA from that point. Trainer C. Smith confirmed the instructions, stating that the horse does not begin with any early speed and his specific instructions were to follow BRADY 'N' ME throughout the event prior to making his final run. He added that he felt that PERFORMIA had taken time to pick up when placed under pressure at a vital stage from the 500m but felt that the horse finished the race off well and expressed his satisfaction with the ride. Stewards noted the explanations.
