Race 1: Vern Kleinschmidt BenchMark 50 H'cap – 1800m

BRUBAKER – Slow to begin.

COURT EXPRESS – Raced keenly in the early stages and laid out rounding the home turn and was held up for a short distance at the top of the straight.

ROCKIANA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey R. Goltz reported his mount hung out throughout.

LIDO – Raced wide from the 1000m.


Race 2: Picnics April 9 3yo BenchMark 55 H'cap - 1000m

MARAUDING’S GIRL – Bumped another runner at the start.

GIRLS SAY – Bumped at the start.

NOT A BAD JOKER – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. Raced ungenerously in the early stages when hanging out.

POETIC DRAGON – Tightened for room shortly after the start.

ARQUATAS – Laid out under pressure over the final 100m. Jockey R. McMahon was reprimanded for using his whip in 2 consecutive strides prior to the 100m.

CLOSE ENOUGH – Began awkwardly. Hung out from the 600m.


Race 3: Hayles Spraying Maiden H'cap – 1000m

SMART CRAFT – Declared a late scratching at 12.05 pm on veterinary advice.

DEAR MARY – Raced ungenerously in the middle stages and was checked at the home turn when a tiring runner shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

DUPRE – Bumped at the start. Tightened for room shortly after the start.

WILD PARTY OVER – Bumped at the start.

NONA SAAL’S GIRL – Reluctant to proceed to the barriers. A warning was issued to the connections of the horse regarding its pre-race behaviour. Began awkwardly. Raced greenly over the concluding stages.

SABA LASS – Hung in in the early stages. Tightened for room at the 800m by HEZA CHUMLEY. N. Evans, rider of HEZA CHUMLEY, was advised to exercise more care.


Race 4: Louis Dreyfus Commidities Maiden Plate – 1400m

VEGANER – Slow to begin. Had to be steadied when attempting a narrow run inside PERZERO, which shifted in near the 150m. Jockey N. Evans, rider of PERZERO, was issued with a severe reprimand. Had to be checked over the concluding stages when tightened for room between PERZERO and KENKERJOCA, which was taken in by GRAN SABANA, which laid in over the concluding stages. At subsequent inquiry into this incident, L. Tilley, rider of GRAN SABANA, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding and was suspended from riding in races for a period of 9 days, to commence at midnight, 6 April and to expire at midnight, 15 April.

KENKERJOCA - As App. H. Phillips was ill, App. H English was substituted as the rider of the gelding. Overraced in the early stages.

GRAN SABANA – Raced wide.

Following the running of Race 4, App. M Schrapel was examined by ambulance officers and stood down from his remaining rides.



Race 5: Croplands Equipment/Black Truck & AG Class 1 H'cap – 1400m

GALWAY TOWN – As App. M. Schrapel was indisposed, App. C. Jokic was substituted as the rider of the mare.

HELLO HARRA – App. S. Lacy was fined $200 for being unable to claim her full allowance.

CALCETINES – Slow to begin.

EIGHT CHANCE – Slow to begin.

LE CHACAL – Raced ungenerously when hanging out near the 800m.


Race 6: Black Truck & AG Hotel BenchMark 55 H'cap - 1000m

DIVA DREAMER – Slow to begin.

AZUSA – Raced wide throughout.

COVER UP - Raced wide throughout.


Race 7: Railway Hotel Country Queensland Showcase BenchMark 65 H'cap – 1200m

MORE LEVERAGE – As App. M. Schrapel was indisposed, App. L. Attard was substituted as the rider of the gelding. Bumped at the start.

PURE SUNSET – Bumped at the start.

LISTANERA – Jockey R. Goltz reported that his mount was inclined to hang out and raced ungenerously in the middle stages.

ROUBAIX – Improved onto heels and blundered making the home turn.

STRENGTH – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 1000m to the inside of BLAISINGJAD. A. Taylor, rider of BLAISINGJAD, was advised to exercise more care.

PATAPINDA – Steadied near the 800m when racing to the inside of SHIGERU MAHOGANY. R. McMahon, rider of SHIGERU MAHOGANY, was advised to exercise more care.

SHIGERU MAHOGANY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have been galloped on on the off hind. A veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.
