QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT GOONDIWINDI RACE CLUB – SATURDAY 21 JANUARY 2017 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – HEAVY 8 RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – G. Edmonstone GENERAL Due to a computer malfunction the photo finish system was not available for this meeting. Placings and margins were determined from the video footage. RACE 1: I.O.R. PETROLEUM CLASS B H'CAP – 1400M DESTINY’S DESIRE – Slow to begin. IT’S NOT CRYSTAL – Raced wide throughout the event. DOVANA – Raced wide in the early stages. NAUTICAL LAD – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. RACE 2: DIESEL CARE A.R.B. MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M FREESTONE – Reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer S. McEwan was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s pre-race behaviour. Began awkwardly and was slow to muster speed. On returning to scale, jockey D. McMaster reported the gelding, which was racing with blinkers for the first time, raced greenly throughout the event. EXCEPTIONAL LASS – Raced keenly in the early stages. HIDENA MAN – Raced wide from the 700m. TICKET TO DALLAS – Raced wide throughout the event. NOTHIN’ ZAPPENIN’ – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. RACE 3: NORTH WEST RURAL SUPPLIES BENCHMARK 60 H'CAP – 1200M SQUEEMI – Began awkwardly. HEZA CHUMLEY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. RACE 4: RABOBANK BENCHMARK 50 H’CAP – 1000M BROOKLYN BOY – Fractious in the barriers. Trailed the field throughout. Jockey T. Chambers reported the gelding did not travel comfortably at any stage, and in her opinion did not handle the high temperature and heavy track at today’s meeting. Trainer’s representative J. Baker advised the gelding would now be sent for spell. JEDDA’S GIRL – Shifted out near the 50m to obtain clear running. MELLORE – Bumped at the start, then shifted out. BAIO – Tightened for room shortly after the start. Inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight. RACE 5: O’SHEAS ROYAL HOTEL ST MARYS CUP BENCHMARK 70 H'CAP – 1000M SUIT – On arriving on course, trainer’s representative J. Baker advised the gelding had become fractious in the float and struck its head. SUIT was subsequently examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. CELESTIAL DRAGON – Bumped another runner at the start. CWMBRAN – Began awkwardly with its head in the air. Bumped by another runner at the start. When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer B. Waldron advised that the gelding races well first up following a spell, and has previously raced well on wet tracks. Stewards noted the explanation.
