QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT GOONDIWINDI RACE CLUB INC. – SATURDAY 2 JUNE 2018 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 3 RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – E. Edmonstone RACE 1: GOONDIWINDI INDUSTRIAL SUPPLIERS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP– 1200M Trainer C. Smith was reprimanded for the late rider declaration of GRAND EDEROI and TAUGHT BY THE BEST. In assessing penalty stewards were mindful Mr Smith’s good record in relation to this rule. GUD ONYA - Slow to begin and had to be steadied from heels shortly after. MISTER MCRAE – Raced wide without cover throughout. Shifted in under pressure in the home straight. GOLOVKIN - Raced wide throughout without cover. CHAMPAGNE WARRIOR – Jockey N. Evans explained that the gelding weakened over the concluding stages and that in his opinion the 1200m trip contributed to the disappointing performance. RACE 2: GOONDIWINDI AGRICULTURAL SUPPLIERS QTIS 2-Y-O & 3-Y-O MAIDEN HANDICAP- 1200M THE SCOOP – During transportation to the track was kicked. On arrival at the track underwent a pre-race veterinary examination which cleared the horse to race. Laid in over the concluding stages. SMOKEY DIAMOND – Dislodged Jockey C. Eaton in the preliminary and galloped a short distance. Underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared fit to race. FOLLY OVER – Slow to begin. KARMA CHAMELEON - Began awkwardly. RILEY’S STATESMAN –Began awkwardly and lost ground. NO CRYSTAL BALL – Raced wide throughout without cover. Apprentice S. Sweeney explained that the gelding travelled well early and middle stages however when placed under pressure near the 400m, failed to respond and proved disappointing. She added that it may benefit with the addition of a tongue tie. Post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. BURNING ENIGMA – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. RACE 3: INGLEWOOD CUP BATTLE OF THE BUSH QUALIFIER - OPEN PLATE– 1200M REVELIO – Held up for a considerable distance rounding the home turn. FLAVIAN – Was tightened for room and had to be steadied near the 1000m when MORE OF THE ZAIM shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. Checked near the 900m when MORE OF THE ZAIM again shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. Held up and unable to improve for a considerable distance between the 300m and 150m. PICK OF THE PUBS – Began awkwardly and lost ground at the start. GO GET SUM – Raced wide throughout. FLYING CHARGER – Raced wide throughout. RACE 4: GOONDIWINDI MAIN STREET & HOSPITALITY OUTLETS CLASS B HANDICAP- 1000M THE INTERN – On jumping away the barrier gate rebounded resulting in the gelding losing ground and settling further back in the field. AVASA – Raced wide throughout without cover. Jockey N. Evans was unable to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance. GALAXIES – Held up and unable to secure clear running from the 150m, and went to the line without being fully tested. WILD JUSTICE - Leaving the 800m had to be steadied on a number of occasions when racing ungenerously. RACE 5: GOONDIWINDI COMBINED HOTELIERS MAIDEN HANDICAP– 1000M After horses were loaded, the start was delayed to allow Kangaroos to be removed from the track. Stewards declared SPECIAL THING to be a non-starter under 134A as its barrier failed to open and took no part in the event. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered all monies invested on SPECIAL THING be refunded with the following deductions to apply: 1st - 0 cents the win 6 cents the place 2nd – 12 cents the place3rd – 13 cents the place BOLD CROSSING – Slow to begin. MANHATTAN STYLE – Bumped on jumping. CATHVALANNA – Began awkwardly and made contact with another runner. SWIFT REVENGE – Fractious in the barriers, lunged forward just prior to the start. Post-race veterinary examination revealed small abrasions to the filly’s head. A REAL GEM – Began awkwardly and shifted out. STEWARDS RACE DAY SUMMARY Summary of action concerning licensees Race 1.
