QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT GOONDIWINDI RACE CLUB GOONDIWINDI SATURDAY 7TH MAY 2022 WEATHER – OVERCAST TRACK RATING –SOFT 5 - RACE 1, THEN DOWNGRADED TO A SOFT 6 FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE PROGRAM RAIL – TRUE. OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – T Preston Clerk of Scales – Ms L Spicer Judge – Mr M Kindt Veterinarian – Dr M Kneipp Swab Attendants – Dr K Kneipp Starter – Mr I Henderson Photo Finish Operator- J Moody GENERAL Due to an injury Jockey S Sweedman did not ride at this meeting all rider replacements as per the Stewards Summary. Jockey S McGovern was permitted to ride +.5kg in Race 3 and +1.0kg in Race 5 by Stewards. Race 1- LONG STORY SHORT was vetted prior to racing due to not starting in a race or an official trial for two years. It was subsequently passed fit to race. Race 4- FAIR FELLA was vetted prior to racing today as a result of sustaining an injury at the Sunshine Coast Meeting on the 6/3/2022 and subsequently passed fit to race. Race 4- GRETZKY- was vetted prior to racing today due to not starting in a race or an official trial since 14 January 2021. It was subsequently passed fit to race. Race 1: TRIPLE CROWN BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200M ONLY CHOICE- bumped by another runner shortly after the start. BLACK SEA- raced three- wide with no cover for the majority, laid in under pressure over the final stages. BOOMIS BUDDY-laid out under pressure at the 200m for a short distance despite the efforts of the rider. GEKKO- began awkwardly and was bumped by another runner then dipped shortly after the start and raced three- wide with no cover during the early stages of the event, then leaving the 800m raced in a five wide position with no cover to obtain a more forward position outside the leading group. Began to lose ground from the 400m point and continued to weaken over the concluding stages of the race. LONG STORY SHORT- began awkwardly, failed to go the early speed and by the 600m was being eased out of the race by its rider. Stewards spoke with Jockey M Schrapel who advised the horse wasn’t comfortable in the conditions today and when asked for an effort to improve, by the 600m the gelding had nothing to give and was then eased out of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse had cardiac arrhythmia. Stewards questioned Trainer Mr B Bowen he advised the horse would now be retired, Stewards advised Mr Bowen that a Veterinary Certificate, an ECG Report and the horse would need to undertake an official Barrier Trial prior to racing again. NOMBUSO- Laid in under pressure over the final stages of the event. WITHOUT CHOICE- began awkwardly and bumped ONLY CHOICE shortly after the start and lost ground, then raced towards the rear of the field for the remainder. Travelled extremely wide after entering the home turn. Trainer B Ahrens was advised by Stewards that due to the horse’s pre-race behaviour a Warning would be placed on the Gelding. BLACK STREAM- blundered at the start and lost ground. STELLAR WAY- held up for a run from the 400m point, after entering the home turn was able to improve to the inside of BOOMI BUDDY which tended to lay out from the 200m despite the efforts of the rider. Ran home strongly over the final stages of the race. BED TALK- hung in during the early stages of the race. Race 2: RONNIE GLASSER FENCING QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1000M BORDEAUX HOPPER- failed to go the early speed and raced towards the rear of the field for the majority of the event. Ran on well from the 200m making up some ground over the final stages of the race. MOONSTRIKER- hung out for the majority of the event. Travelled three wide with no cover during the majority of the event then extremely wide after entering the home turn for the remainder of the event. Trainer K McGovern was advised that a Warning would be placed on the gelding and it would have to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. BELPHEGOR-proved difficult to load then began awkwardly Stewards advised Trainer Mr B Ahrens that a Warning would be placed on the horse due to poor pre-race barrier manners. MS MINNELLI- began awkwardly. PINNAROO- began awkwardly and bumped MERRON DIVA at the start then was tightened for room between runners shortly after the start when BELPHEGOR jumped awkwardly. ZARAGIGI- began awkwardly, made heavy contact with SHES ABLAZING and became unbalanced and lost ground as a result travelled at the rear of the field for the majority of the race. MERRON DIVA- began awkwardly with its head in the air then was bumped losing ground shortly after the start when PINNAROO began awkwardly. SHES ABLAZING- was bumped heavily at the start when ZARAGIGI began awkwardly, as a result the filly became unbalanced and lost ground at the start. Race 3: REMEMBERING DANNY FRAHM CLASS B HANDICAP 1000M OUTLAW JOSEY WALES- began awkwardly and then tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground, did lay out under pressure from the 200m point and then inconvenienced KIKI COCO over the final stages of the race and Appr J Golden was advised by Stewards to exercise more care in running. KIKI COCO- began awkwardly, bumped by EIL’N’ ALL and lost ground then hung out for a short distance during the early stages despite the efforts of the rider. Ran three-wide with no cover from the 600m, was inconvenienced over the final stages when OUTLAW JOSEY WALES laid out under pressure, the Mare ran on strongly over the final stages of the event. SPIRIT OF LUCK- reared as the start was affected losing significant ground and was tailed off during the early stages of the event. Trainer C Byrne was advised by Stewards that the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards and obtain two consecutive barrier passes prior to racing again. CURIC- began awkwardly. LET HIM FLY- raced three-wide with no cover from the 800m for the remainder of the event. EIL’N’ALL- began awkwardly and tightened another runner shortly after the start and continued to shift out despite the best efforts of the rider and bumped KIKI COCO which lost ground at that point. Race 4: BATTLE OF THE BUSH QUALIFIER JUNE 4 OPEN HANDICAP 1000M PIRACY- began awkwardly and made heavy contact with THE TENOR shortly after the start. The rider lost her whip at the 150m point.Stewards questioned Appr S Champkin regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of PIRACY in the race and finishing 15.9l off the winner. Appr S Champkin stated that the gelding began awkwardly and didn’t appear to be suited to the track conditions today. Stewards spoke with Trainer C Smith who advised he was happy with the run and that his training program for the horse was interrupted leading up to this race as he was unable to use the track during the week. The gelding was first up after a long spell, and he thought the horse would benefit greatly from this run. Stewards noted Mr Smith’s explanation and took no further action regarding this matter. HARD STRIDE- on returning to scale the Jockey M Haley advised stewards the gelding wasn’t suited to the track conditions today. Stewards noted his comments. THE TENOR- began awkwardly then bumped by PIRACY at the start of the race, travelled three-wide with no cover during the middle stages of the event. MASLOW- tended to lay out over the final stages of the race. FAIR FELLA- raced handy throughout and finished off strongly over the final stages. GRETZKY- began awkwardly HARD CURRENCY- was slow into stride as the start was affected and lost ground, raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event. Race 5: THANKS JULIE & MARILYN BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1400M SALAZAR- was slow to begin and raced three-wide for the majority of the event. SEEKING GUIDENCE- was slow to begin. HUSSON’S SHOUT- ran towards the rear of the field in a three-wide position for the majority of the event. Became uncompetitive from the 400m despite the urging of the rider to improve its position. Trainer K McGovern will be notified by Stewards that a Warning will be placed on the horse for being uncompetitive today.
