Declared a late scratching at 1:29pm on Stewards’ orders when the stirrup iron of Jockey N. Fazackerley broke when making heavy contact with the barrier partition and no immediate replacement was available. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all monetary investments placed on SQUEEZE DIS be refunded with the following deductions to apply:

Race 3: GOONDIWINDI COMBINED HOTELIERS QTIS Maiden Plate (1000m)
Following the running of Race 2, several Senior Jockeys expressed concerns with the footing afforded on leaving the barriers with the prevailing track conditions. Following consultation with Starter I. Henderson, and consideration of events later in the program commencing from the same chute, Stewards amended the starting distance of Race 3 to 1002m to afford better ground on jumping.
The running of this race was delayed approximately 5 minutes when LISA LOVELY LEGS proved reluctant to proceed to the barriers before contacting the inside running rail at the 900m which then required remedial work.

Proved extremely reluctant to proceed to the barriers, and in doing so, contacted the inside running rail at the 900m. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and passed fit to start. Slow to begin before commencing to lose ground leaving the 800m. Finished tailed off (70L). A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer D. Dobbin was advised that due to the filly’s pre-race manners and poor performance, LISA LOVELY LEGS would now be required to trial prior to racing again. Trainer D. Dobbin advised that consideration would now be given to the filly’s immediate racing future, indicating that the filly would most likely be retired.

Following the running of this event, the track was downgraded to a Soft 7.
Race 4: JEFF HANNAFORD INGLEWOOD CUP OPEN Handicap (1200m)
COAT OF ARMS – Raced keenly in the early stages.
ELUSIVE EAGLE – Began awkwardly. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding, Jockey H. Phillips advised that the gelding had previously performed well first-up when ridden positively to obtain a forward position. She further added she had been advised the gelding did have a history of bucking in the early stages of the event, and for this reason she elected to pressure her mount to obtain the lead from the wide barrier. When questioned regarding her riding in the middle stages, and whether there was an opportunity to steady her mount having established a considerable lead on the remainder of the field, Jockey Phillips agreed in hindsight that she should have restrained and steadied the pace, however, was of the view the gelding was travelling comfortably. Jockey Phillips stated the gelding continued to travel well until the 200m, where it then became under heavy pressure and weakened noticeably. Jockey Phillips agreed with Stewards in that she had erred in maintaining a fast tempo throughout the early and middle stages and that she would have been better suited in steadying her mount to afford it a better chance of finishing the event off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
MILL ROSSA – Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
ROLLINWITHTHEFLOW – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.

Race 5: RETAILERS & BUSINESS OUTLETS BENCHMARK 50 Handicap (1400m)
Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to view footage of the start in relation to MOUNTBATTEN. Once it was established that the gelding’s poor start was directly attributable to the gelding’s barrier manners, correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.
JUST FOR PLEASURE – Apprentice R. Thorburn reported in his opinion, the mare is better suited to events over shorter distances.
VULTURE STREET – When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey P. Hamblin stated the gelding did not travel comfortably at any stage of the event and proved extremely disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards intend to follow up on the condition of the gelding with the Hatch stable. Stewards also intend to inquire into the whip use of Jockey P. Hamblin prior to the 100m in coming days.

DIAMOND FLYER – Began awkwardly and shifted in, hampering WHEREDACRAWDADSING. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
WHEREDACRAWDADSING – Hampered between runners on jumping and lost ground. Obliged to steady from the heels of BRIGHT REALM when that runner gave ground abruptly leaving the 700m. Trainer K. Kirwin advised that consideration would be given to the gelding’s immediate racing future, indicating it would now most likely be sent for a spell.

SOOZIE MARIE – When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance Trainer S. Sixtus stated the mare had benefited from being able to obtain a more favourable position in this event, adding in its previous starts the mare had been endured wide runs. She further added the mare was better suited being down in class in this event. Stewards noted the explanation.
MY GIRL SKY – Apprentice L. Sykes was permitted to claim only 1.5kg of his 2kg allowance. Leaving the 200m, raced in restricted room for several strides when crowded onto heels and obliged to steady.

Lowe was reminded of her obligations under AR132(6)(c) regarding her whip use when out of contention. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
EXTASSY – Raced wide and without cover in the early stages until obtaining a position outside the leader approaching the 1400m. Bumped leaving the 300m.
