LE GAGNEUR- Laid out in the home straight. Ran on well over the concluding stages.

SENSE OF HUMOUR- Slow into stride and dropped back towards the rear of the field. Approaching the 500m while racing wide began to improve into the race finishing the race off strongly over the concluding stages.

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow the rider of LITERACY Appr Jky Ms I Jessop to view the start to ensure her mount gained a fair start. After viewing the footage available Appr Jky Jessop was satisfied with the start.

Race 2 BOGGABILLA TOWN &COUNTRY CLUB/AIR CARE/AMBROSE HAULAGE BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP 1200m

ROTHERO ESSGEE- Was fractious and then became cast in the barriers shortly after PRESS LIGHTLY and RICHUNCLEMONEYBAGS were loaded. The gelding was declared a late scratching at 2.15pm by Stewards acting under the provision of AR 75(2)(b) and on Vet advice. Trainer Ms R Pereira was advised that the horse would require a Vet Certificate prior to its next start.

FLY LIKE HELEN- Raced at the rear for some distance and raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid out in the home straight leaving the 200m point when Appr Jky L O’Donnell used the whip the horse ducked in abruptly resulting in COTTON CAPER being inconvenienced and its rider Jky A Spinks having to stop riding and lost momentum. Jky Spinks advised Stewards he didn’t consider lodging an objection due to the 2-length margin and believed his horse wasn’t going as well as Ms O’Donnell’s’ at that point. Once Appr O’Donnell stopped riding and ceased using the whip she was able to then straighten the horse and able to ride it out over the final stages. It was the opinion of Stewards that after viewing the footage and hearing comments from Jky A Spinks and Appr Jky O’Donnell the matter will be recorded as a racing incident.

PRESS LIGHTLY- Became fraction after being loaded when the horse to the inside ROTHERO ESSGEE became cast and then as the horse to its outside RICHUNCLEMONEYBAGS was loaded Appr Z Sprie climbed off the horse briefly and on or about that time the front gates of both runners malfunctioned resulting in both horses getting away with PRESS LIGHTLY being riderless.

RICHUNCLEMONEYBAGS- Shortly after being loaded into the barriers the gates malfunctioned, resulting in the gelding galloping away with PRESS LIGHTLY. Stewards spoke with Jky H Phillips after the event, and she advised that despite her best efforts she was unable to pull the horse up due to being stirred up and the pressure being brought on by PRESS LIGHTLY. Stewards accepted her explanation. Stewards inquired into the incident and were of the opinion that the issue was caused as a result of the barriers malfunctioning when put under pressure by the horses loaded becoming fractious. Starter Mr I Henderson advised he would further test the barriers in between races to ensure the integrity of the starts in the remaining races.

MISSLES ARMED- Was fractious in the mounting yard and dislodged Jky W O’Connell shortly after leaving the mounting yard. Jky O’Connell advised Stewards that he didn’t require QAS as he was fit to ride. Stewards allowed him to do so and acting under the provision of AR 75(1)(b) advised Trainer Mr J Ferguson that a Warning would be placed on the horse for its pre-race manners.

Due to the incident at the start Stewards declared 1- ROTHERO ESSGEE, 12- PRESS LIGHTLY and RICHUNCLEMONEYBAGS late scratching’s as 2.15pm. And further, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on the horses be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply- SILVANNA’S SONG- W- 16c, PL—21c, 2nd- FLY LIKE HELEN- PL-20c and COTTON CAPER- PL- 23c.
