STEWARDS REPORT

GOONDIWINDI JOCKEY CLUB
SATURDAY 22ND FEBRUARY 2025

WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 3

OFFICIALS

Stewards – S Coulthard (Chair), W Glass.

GENERAL

As App Jockey Z Sprie was unable to attend today’s meeting, changes were made as per the Stewards summary. App Sprie was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to next race ride or trial.

Race 1:THE LARDER / SHOT 2 U MAIDEN PLATE 1400m

ILEGITIMO - Fractious prior to start and was slow to begin, then shortly after was steadied when inconvenienced by RESTLESS LADY. Near the 800m was severely inconvenienced by fallen horse and rider then finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

PRIDE OF SAVABELLA – Jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin. Near the 800m was severely inconvenienced by fallen horse and rider.

NIA – Fell near the 800m dislodging rider P Hamblin. Stewards adjourned an inquiry into this matter to a time and date to be determined. P Hamblin was examined by QAS officers and a concussion assessment carried out under the QRIC concussion protocol before continuing his remaining rides. A post-race veterinary examination of NIA revealed minor grazing to the left fore cannon.

RESTLESS LADY – Bucked shortly after the start causing ILEGITIMO to be steadied. Near the 800m was severely inconvenienced by fallen horse and rider. Trainer A Park was advised the filly would be required to trial/jump out to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

Race 2:TOMS TARPS / TWIDALE AUTO / FULL BOAR WELDING BENCHMARK 55 HCAP 1400m

Declaration of correct weight was significantly delayed allowing Stewards to ascertain how the start of the event had been effected when GOVERNOR GENERAL was not loaded into the barrier. After taking evidence from Starter Mr I Henderson and all riders and trainers it was determined that Mr Henderson had erred by effecting the start when GOVERNOR GENERAL was still to be loaded into the barrier. After consideration of the matter Stewards determined, with consideration to AR204, that in addition to GOVERNOR GENERAL, both WHAT A WEEKEND and SENSE OF HUMOUR were to be declared non-starters having been encumbered as the start was effected when GOVERNOR GENERAL had not been loaded into the barrier. Upon the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on GOVERNOR GENERAL, WHAT A WEEKEND and SENSE OF HUMOUR to be refunded with the following deductions ordered applicable to all successful wagers:

20cents in the dollar for the win
23cents in the dollar for the place on the winner
23cents in the dollar for 2nd place
23cents in the dollar for 3rd place

Additionally, Stewards admonished Mr Henderson and directed that he review his communication processes at the barrier, further, Stewards intend to contact Goondiwindi Race Club to engage a review into their starting procedures more generally.
