Riding Changes:
When App B Swaffer was indisposed due to injury, stewards permitted the following riding changes as per the steward’s summary;

Race 1: JPMI QTIS Maiden Plate 1100 metres:
1st – CAPT’N THUNDERBIRD 2nd – I’M RURRBELLIOUS 3rd – HONEST FRIEND 4th – LATEST EDITION

HONEST FRIEND – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

I’M RURRBELLIOUS – On return to scale jockey S Kaya reported that his mount was inclined to hang out throughout.

Race 2: Cairns Hardware Class B Handicap 1100 metres:
1st – DASH OF BLACK 2nd – BEARIZAN 3rd – SERIKOS FLYER 4th – JUMBO RUMBO

SHE CAN TWIST – Was a late withdrawal at 2.21pm after the mare refused to load into the barriers. When correct weight was declared it was ordered that all bets placed on SHE CAN TWIST to refunded in full and all other successful bets made on the race prior to 2.21pm to subject to the following deductions of 3c win and 4c place on the face value of the betting ticket. Trainer Ms L Ashford said that the mare would now leave her stable however was told that it would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.

BROWN PAPER BEAR – Began awkwardly resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced.

RACING IN THE WIND – Slow to begin.

COLLIDE – Wide throughout.

DAZZLING LADY – Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.

SALMON ROE – Approaching the first turn near the 700m had to be steadied to avoid heels.

Rounding the first turn near the 700m SERIKOS FLYER was inclined to lay out towards heels and had to be checked. RACING IN THE WIND which was following was severely hampered as a consequence.

DASH OF BLACK – When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer Mr R Nelson said that in his opinion the gelding appreciated the drop back in grade to a country venue.

Race 3: CMS Stainless Solutions Benchmark 65 Handicap 1100 metres:
1st – ISADOR AMORE 2nd – STRICTLY MAGIC 3rd – BESIEGED 4th – PRIME SHADOW

MELAKAI – Which was resuming from a lengthy spell underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Trainer Mr R Nelson was told that a warning for being difficult to load would be placed on the gelding.

CROTCHET – Slow to begin.

HARVEY THE RABBIT – Began awkwardly.

BESIEGED – Wide throughout. Shifted out under pressure in the straight.

Race 4: Gary Riches Builders/CNW Electrical Wholesalers Benchmark 60 Handicap 1360 metres:
1st – REGENCY ROYALE 2nd – PEMBERTON 3rd – WILL HE FLY 4th – HOW ABOUT ME

HOW ABOUT ME – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost ground. Passing the 200m shifted out abruptly to obtain clear running.

CASHED BULLY – Raced wide throughout.

KING OF THEBES – Rounding the home turn had to be checked when tightened for room between runners, both of which shifted ground.

REGENCY ROYALE – When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer Mr S Potiris explained that at the gelding’s most recent start it was slow to begin and then was reluctant to stretch due to the kick back.

Race 5: Great Northern Hotel/Bill Dawson Memorial Gordonvale Cup Open Handicap 1800 metres:
1st – FIESTY BELLE 2nd – LEXCEN 3rd – BO ROSSA 4th – JUNEE BOY

BO ROSSA – Began awkwardly.

BARAMUL BULLET – Slow to begin.

FIESTY BELLE – Began awkwardly.

Approaching the crossing near the 700m BLOWIN’ YOUR MIND shifted in despite the efforts of its rider resulting in CARLSON’S FELT being crowded onto the fence and FIESTY BELLE which was following having to be checked.
