QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT GORDONVALE THB SATURDAY 5 OCTOBER 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Firm 2 RAIL – In True Position OFFICIALS:Stewards – P Lane (Chairman), S Copelin GENERAL:Jockey S Sheargold whose arrival on course was delayed due to transport difficulties was replaced as per Stewards Summary. Permitted overweights:Race 1. ISLA GIRL – L Guernier 1kgRace 4. EYEWITNESS – N Day 1kg, POMADE – L Guernier 1kgRace 5. CHOIR BOY – N Day 1kg Race 1: COREY MACHAN SHEETMETAL QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 3YO & UP SET WEIGHTS 1100 Metres: SUPERSTITIONS – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly in the early stages. Passing the 800m hung out forcing MISHANI BURN out onto the running of ISLA GIRL resulting in that filly being carried wider and racing wide for the remainder of the event. CLAN WIELAND – Inconvenienced on jumping. Slowly into stride. Raced greenly throughout failing to maintain touch with the body of the field and taking no competitive part. Connections were of the opinion today’s firm surface had played a part in the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Given this was the colt’s 1st race start no further action was taken by Stewards. ISLA GIRL – Raced ungenerously in the early stages. Made the 900m crossing awkwardly. Raced wide from the 800m. SHE’S DAPPER – First race start. Slowly away. Eased out of the race in the early stages taking no further competitive part. Connections were of the opinion today’s firm surface had played a part in the performance but nonetheless advised it is the intention to spell the filly immediately. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.Race 2: GILVEAR PLANNING BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1100 Metres: MAZZARATTI – Held up for clear running over the concluding stages. DELANCY – Prior to declaration of correct weight connections made application for the gelding to be declared a non-runner. After hearing submissions and viewing the available patrol footage Stewards formed the opinion that a member of the barrier staff had hold of the nearside rein as the field was released resulting in DELANCY missing the start by several lengths and taking no competitive part. Acting under the provisions of AR204(c) Stewards declared DELANCY a non-runner, ordering that all monies wagered on the gelding be refunded in full and further that deductions of 29 cents in the dollar win and 20 cents in the dollar place be applied to the face value of all successful wagers placed on the event. SHERE KHAN – Raced wide for the majority. SONIC LIGHT – Laid in down the running. THEGIRLSGOTTHIS – Unable to muster pace early. Connections were of the opinion today’s firm surface had played a part in the performance but nonetheless advised it is the intention to spell the mare immediately. BELLA BIANCA - Raced wide for the majority. Race 3: GREAT NORTHERN BREWING CO. BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP – 1360 Metres: SO DAPPER – Slowly away. Raced wide for the majority. LIDDER VALLEY – Over-raced in the early stages. I SAY BOOM – Slowly away. Eased down over the concluding stages. Connections were of the opinion today’s firm surface had played a part in the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. BRADSHAW – Raced ungenerously in the middle stages. FERUS – Raced wide for the majority. Race 4: CAIRNS HARDWARE COUNTRY STAMPEDED QUALIFIER OPEN HANDICAP – 1100 Metres: YES DREAM - A pre-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Attempted to buck shortly after the start losing considerable ground and taking no competitive part. A further veterinary examination post-race revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr R Ludwig was advised the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to next race start. HALLSIDE HAMMER – Blundered rounding the home turn losing ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained minor lacerations to both hind fetlocks in running. POMADE – Put in an awkward stride near the 350m. On returning to scale App T Leslight who rode 2nd placed LOBURN LASS requested to view the photo finish. After doing so App Leslight was satisfied with the order of judge’s placings. After finishing in 4th place and on returning to scale Jockey N Day lodged an objection against 3rd placed POMADE (App L Guernier) on the grounds of alleged interference rounding the home turn and entering the home straight. After hearing submissions and viewing the patrol footage Jockey Day indicated that he wished to withdraw the protest, and correct weight was declared on the judge’s numbers. Jockey Day was subsequently fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR219(5). Race 5: FULLER SPORTS/KERRY COPPIN MEMORIAL GORDONVALE CUP OPEN HANDICAP – 1800 Metres: FOR VALOUR – Slowly away. ARMOUR FORCE – Shifted out on jumping inconveniencing OLYMPIC KORCHNOI (BRZ). Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. OLYMPIC KORCHNOI (BRZ) – Inconvenienced on jumping. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. CHOIR BOY – Over-raced in the early stages. PICCAPEPPA – Raced wide for the majority.
