STEWARDS REPORT GREGORY DOWNS RACE CLUB SATURDAY 4 MAY 2024 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – DIRT/GOOD RAIL TRUE. OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – D Griffiths Race 1: BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 800 M Race 1 was rescheduled to start at 1.30 p.m. due to transport issues involving Jockey’s J Hoopert and N Yadi whilst they were on route to the course. PHILADELPHIAFREE - Jumped in at the start and contacted Bubble Bath.GREAT IAM- Jumped out at the start. Bumped another runner at the 650 metres.KISS GOODBYE- Shift out away from the rail at the 650 metres and hampered Great I Am which had to be steadied momentarily. BUBBLE BATH- Tightened for room at the start. Race 2: QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1150 M HOPETOWN SUNRISE – Broke down approaching the winning post when racing at the tail of the field. Following an immediate veterinary examination which revealed the gelding had sustaining an offside foreleg fracture. Hopetown Sunrise was humanely euthanised by the Club Veterinary surgeon.Race 3: BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1150 M DAWN TO GOOD - Race three wide throughout. CUBAN AFFAIR – Slow to begin. EYE TO SHOOT WIN – Fractious in the saddling enclosure. Race 4: BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP 1300 M MISTER MODERATION – Fractious in the enclosure and delayed the start when difficult to load. VALONIA – Stood flat footed when the gates opened and lost ground.On returning to scale, Trainer/ Jockey J Baker advised that he felt the mare was showing signs of lameness. A post-race veterinary examination revealed slight bruising to the off-fore heel. SINGLE MALT – Jockey M McDonald reported that the gelding was not comfortable on the firm track surface. Race 5: OPEN HANDICAP 1300 M No Racing Incidents. Race 6: BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1500M CORALEE – Slow into stride then made a forward move and raced wide in the middle stages.
