After inspecting the track prior to the running of race one, stewards deemed the track surface in the 850m and 1030m chutes to be unsuitable for racing following recent heavy rain. After consultation with club officials the distance of race one was shortened to approximately 830m, and the distance of races two and three shortened to approximately 1015m. All trainers were advised of the change in distance and were satisfied to run their respective runners.
Race 1: Nolan Vale Class B Handicap – 830m
Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow B. Gill, trainer of YOU'LL HAVE TO, which dead-heated for second, to view the photo finish. After viewing the image Mr. Gill was satisfied with the placings and correct weight was declared on the judge's semaphored numbers.
