QRIC Stewards Report GYMPIE TURF CLUB: 22nd JULY 2017Weather: Fine Track: Sand Rail:TrueStewards: K Daly, C Fedrick, W MooreStarter: M Bailey Clerk of Scales: StewardsJudges: P Chilton, J McMillanVeterinarian: Dr P AgnewSwab Attendant: S Heidke Race 1: CLASS B HDCP 850 Metres Prior to the declaration of correct weight, and at the request of Jockey C Jokic, rider of third placegetter HIDDEN ANGEL, stewards viewed the photo finish image for second. After doing so the judge’s placings were confirmed and correct weight declared. NOT A BAD JOKER- hampered shortly after the start. Improved onto heels at the 500 metres and had to be steadied. TANNIC – as had not started for over two years, was examined by the Club vet prior to the start and passed fit to start. Raced wide throughout. MESSAGEINABOTTLE – slow to begin. IN TAIWAN – app R Johnston-Bell was reprimanded for failing to claim his full allowance. In assessing penalty stewards took into account he has only recently returned from a race riding injury. Following the running of this event, App R Johnston-Bell returned to scale in excess of half a kilogram over his declared riding weight. At a subsequent inquiry, App Johnston-Bell pleaded guilty to a charge under AR118A in that he changed his riding boots after weighing out and was fined the sum of $200. Rider reported IN TAIWAN felt short in its action on pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality. Raced wide for the majority of the event. GALAXY QUEST – shifted out shortly after the start hampering NOT A BAD JOKER. Shifted out rounding the home turn. Race 2: MAIDEN PLATE 1170 Metres HOT PROSPECT – on arrival at the barriers, and at the request of rider C Jokic, the gelding underwent a pre-race vet inspection and was passed fit to start. Bumped at the start. Rider reported at scale HOT PROSPECT resented the sand kick-back in the early and middle stages of the event. Following the running of this event, rider C Jokic was examined by QAS medical staff and stood down from her remaining engagements. Riding changes were made as per the race-day summary sheet. C Jokic was advised a medical certificate will be required prior to her next race ride. NANI FLYER – raced wide for the majority of the event. TONI’S LUCK – when asked to comment on the disappointing performance, rider M O’Brien stated after showing good early speed the mare commenced to weaken from the 400 metres and following the event had advised trainer Mr W Kuskopf that in her opinion, TONI’S LUCK would benefit from the addition of a tongue tie. WILLY BE LUCKY – jumped out at the start and bumped HOT PROSPECT. JOYFILY – raced wide in the early stages of the event. Race 3: BENCHMARK 55 HDCP 1170 Metres CHILLI BEACH – slow to begin. CUSTODY – raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event. Race 4: BENCHMARK 70 HDCP 1030 Metres After being loaded into the barriers, BAIO broke through and cantered a short distance before being restrained and returned to the barriers. After undergoing an examination by the Club vet, the gelding was passed fit to start. After being reloaded into the barriers BAIO ducked under the front barrier partition and galloped a significant distance before being recaptured. Subsequently BAIO was declared a late scratching at 2:32pm on Vet’s advice. While being loaded into the barriers, JAMES IS BLONDE, which requires the use of a barrier extension, became cast injuring its near side stifle. After being removed from the barriers JAMES IS BLONDE underwent a veterinary examination and was also withdrawn on Vet’s advice at 2:32pm. On declaration of correct weight stewards ordered all bets on both BAIO and JAMES IS BLONDE refunded in full with deductions of 36 cents face value of win bets and 33 cents face value of place bets to apply. Starting prices are not subject to deduction. Mr B Snelling, trainer of BAIO was advised the gelding would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start. Stable representative for Mr B Murray was advised JAMES IS BLONDE would require a vet certificate prior its next race start. TURBO TEDDY – raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event. Shifted in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight placing its rider at a disadvantage.Race 5: BENCHMARK 50 HDCP 1470 Metres TIVERTON – shifted in near the 400 metres. GAS BURNER – raced wide for the majority of the event. YOUR SAY – raced wide in the early stages of the event. NAVILLUS REXTED – when being loaded into the barriers, bumped its off-side hip, requiring the gelding to be released from the front of the barriers. NAVILLUS REXTED underwent a pre-race vet examination and was passed fit to start. TANIWHA – slow to begin. Momentarily obliged to steady from heels near the 400 metres when TIVERTON, which was improving to its outside, shifted in.
