QRIC Stewards Report GYMPIE TURF CLUB: 19th AUGUST 2017Weather: Fine Track: Sand Rail:TrueStewards: K Daly, C Fedrick, W MooreStarter: M Baileyy Clerk of Scales: StewardsJudges: J McMillan, L Smyth Veterinarian: Dr P Agnew Swab Attendant: B Andrews General:EL GRANDO, which was injured en route to the track, was declared a late scratching at 10:50 am on Vets advice. LUCIFERS ANGEL, which was also injured in the same float incident, underwent veterinarian attention in the possibility that she would be fit to start, however was subsequently ruled unfit and withdrawn at 1.00pm on Vets advice. Trainer D Schultz was advised both runners will require Vets certificates prior to their respective next race starts. ABBEY DAZZLER, which is stabled on track, was found to be lame in the off hind leg and declared a late scratching at 12.27pm. Trainer T Hong was advised the mare will require a Vet certificate prior to its next race start. >Race 1: CLASS B HDCP 1030 Metres Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to review the DVD replay to determine if IN TAIWAN, which was slow to leave the barriers, was afforded a fair start. After viewing the replay IN TAIWAN was declared a starter and correct weight declared on the semaphored placings. CRIMSON STAR having its first start on a sand track, resented the kickback and was unable to hold its forward position in the early stages of the event. HOTBOT raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event. IN TAIWAN stood flatfooted at the start and lost ground. Trainer T Nutley was advised a warning would be placed on the geldinggs barrier manners. Race 2: MAIDEN PLATE 1030 Metres The start of this race was delayed approx 10 minutes to allow QAS staff to treat an on-course patron. ILLUSTRIOUS DEAL slow to muster early speed. Rider C Jokic reported at scale the gelding resented the sand kickback. MAKUBA inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. NICE TIME improved onto the heels of HARVEY DENT rounding the home-turn and had to be steadied. NANI FLYER a post race Vet examination revealed the mare to have sustained superficial cuts to the off-side tendon. PURSLANE between the 700 metres and 400 metres raced ungenerously with head in the air and resented the sand kickback. - Race 3: BENCHMARK 60 HDCP 1170 Metres BETTER IDEA when questioned regarding the disappointing performance trainer B Murray was of the opinion the gelding failed to back up from its previous start at Gladstone 7 days prior. A post race Vet examination of BETTER IDEA failed to reveal any abnormality. Mr Murray gave an undertaking to report back to Stewards any condition which may come to light in the coming days. AMULETO rider L Tilley reported at scale the gelding raced flat in patches today and that in his opinion was looking for races over a longer distance. LADY DUPORTH slow to begin then raced wide for the majority of the event. LEAPS AND BOUNDS a post-race Vet examination of the mare revealed superficial cuts to the off foreleg. MINTO'S LASS J Hodge was incorrectly shown as the rider when J Hoopert was the declared rider. PRICKLETHORP raced wide throughout GALAXY QUEST tired to be beaten in excess of 30 lengths. A post-race Vet examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormality. Trainer B Wormer indicated he will consider retiring GALAXY QUEST, however stewards nonetheless advised that the gelding must trial before racing again should these circumstances change.. Race 4: BENCHMARK 55 HDCP 1470 Metres COME BY OFTEN slow to begin. Rider reported at scale hung out throughout. A post race Vet examination revealed no abnormality. ON OF JUSTICE slow to begin KURAMOS when questioned regarding below market performance, rider L Tilley stated after being crossed by other runners at the 1200 metres the horse resented the sand kickback from that point onwards. TIVERTON raced wide throughout. LIKE MY BROTHER when asked to comment on the improved performance trainer B Murray stated the geldinggs previous races had been over shorter distances and was more suited to the step up to todayys 1400 metres.. Stewards accepted the explanation. GAS BUIRNER slow to begin. Race 5: OPEN HDCP 1600 Metres KING LUDWIG rider reported at scale the gelding in her opinion did not back up from its run at Nanango 7 days prior. Rider C Eaton was fined $100 for use of the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100 metres. In determining penalty Stewards took into account the distance of the race, the response of the horse and her recent record under this rule. LITTLE WEALTH slow to begin.
