QRIC Stewards Report GYMPIE TURF CLUB: 14th April 2018Weather: Fine Track: Sand Rail: TrueStewards: K Daly, B Connell, W Moore (club)Starter: G Honeywell Clerk of Scales: StewardsJudge: J McMillan, I SchulzVeterinarian: Dr P AgnewSwab attendant: K Warwick General: To avoid a clash with an Interstate Thoroughbred event, and in consultation with Club officials, the start time for Race 3 was amended to 2:50pm. Race 1: MAIDEN PLATE 1470 Metres HEIRSROC – blundered on jumping and lost ground. MISTA POINT – slow to begin. Steadied and shifted wider on the track rounding the 1200 metre turn. When questioned regarding below market performance, trainer L Wanless stated that it would now be his intention to restrict racing MISTA POINT on grass surfaces, and would also look for races over a longer distance than todays event. SOMETHINGREAL – weakened from the 600 metres. Rider C Eaton stated the mare travelled well behind the leaders however when placed under pressure leaving the 600 metres did not respond to her riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor cut to the near foreleg. WILLY BE LUCKY – raced wide throughout. Shifted out abruptly when struck with the whip near the 150 metres. Race 2: CLASS B HDCP 1170 Metres Stewards delayed the announcement of correct weight to determine if GUADALUPE was afforded a fair start. After viewing the video replay it was established that GUADALUPE stood flat-footed at the start and, as such, correct weight was declared on the semaphored placings. ASCOT BOUND – rider G Steele reported at scale that in her opinion the gelding did not handle the prevailing heavy sand conditions. NOT SO WILD – raced wide for the majority of the event. GUADALUPE – stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground. URUBAMBA – when leaving the saddling enclosure made heavy contact with the enclosure fence and when moving onto the track made contact with the QAS vehicle. URUBABMA was examined behind the barriers by the Club Vet and cleared to start. Rider H English reported at scale that in her opinion the mare did not handle the prevailing heavy sand conditions. Race 3: BENCHMARK 60 HDCP 1030 Metres Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to view the start of this event after the starter and a number of riders reported their gates may have been slow to open. After viewing the official video replay, it was established the barriers of SNITZIOLA, CANID and EMPEROR MAXIMILLIAN were all marginally slow to open, however in the opinion of the stewards this did not materially affect the finishing positions of these runners and correct weight was declared on the judges placings. The barriers were successfully tested on a number of occasions prior to the start of race four. LIVERPOOL JANE – rider G Steele was reprimanded under AR137A(5)(a)(i) for use of the whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100 metres. CLOUDS – raced in restricted room near the 900 metres and had to be steadied. EMPEROR MAXIMILLIAN – slow to begin. Race wide throughout. DAVEY – rider M Crawford reported at scale that in his opinion the gelding did not handle the prevailing heavy sand conditions CANID – slow to begin. HOT TEMPO – at the start shifted in and bumped another runner. NUG’S POCKET – shifted out at the start and bumped another runner. Race 4: MAIDEN PLATE 850 Metres DESTINY’S MATE – had a tendency to hang out under pressure in the home straight. TRUMPFUL – shifted in at the start and bumped another runner. MY KINDA WOMAN – after being loaded into the barriers, broke through and galloped riderless for a considerable distance before jumping the outside fence near the 300 metres. The mare was subsequently declared a late scratching by order of stewards at 3:51pm with all bets on MY KINDA WOMAN to be refunded in full, with deductions of 8 cents the win and 9 cents the place face value of winning tickets prior to 3:51pm to apply. SPs are not subject to deduction. Trainer D Heinemann was advised MY KINDA WOMAN must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no significant abnormality. TARGETS – jumped out at the start and bumped another runner. Rider M Crawford was fined the sum of $200 under rule AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for use of the whip more than five times prior to the 100 metres. MISS FLAWLESS – slow to begin. Race 5: BENCHMARK 60 HDCP 1600 Metres Correct weight was delayed to allow app G Hayes, rider of second place getter ENDLESS DON to view the video replay regarding an incident in the home straight. After doing so, he took the matter no further and correct weight was declared. STILL THE SAME – shifted in and tightened ENDLESS DON a short distance after the start. App D Graham was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. ENDLESS DON – tightened shortly after the start and had to be steadied. Raced wide from the 1200 metres until the 500 metres. Shifted out and brushed another runner over the final 100 metres. TE RANGI – raced three-wide throughout. Shifted in and brushed another runner over the final 100 metres.
