QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT GYMPIE TURF CLUBSATURDAY 9th April 2022 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Sand RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman: K DalyClub Stewards: W R Moore, M Cummings Clerk of Scales – StewardsJudge – P ChiltonVeterinarian – Dr P AgnewStarter – R Hanson Stewards permitted the following weight variations:Race 3: NINE CIGARS – C Meehan – 55.5kgs (+0.5kg)Race 5: ELUSIVE ELEMENT – S McGovern - 56kgs (+1kg) Race 1 - Benchmark 50 Handicap 850 METRES ONLY EMMA – Raced wide for the majority of the event. DREAMALINA – When asked to comment on the performance rider C Meehan reported the horse travelled comfortably until placed under pressure near the 400m at which point DREAMALINA failed to respond to his riding, adding that the horse may not have appreciated the sand track conditions. FUDGINIT – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Rider K Gates reported the horse was inclined to lay out throughout the event. Race 2 - QTIS Maiden Plate 1030 METRES HE DID IT – Slow to begin and then unable to muster speed in the early stages of the event. Rider S McGovern reported the horse resented the sand kickback in the early and middle stages. MARCHEKY BOY – Bumped approaching the finish line when DAULAT KIITIBAZEBA shifted out. QUE CEE SPADE – Raced three wide for the majority of the event. Rider C Small reported QUE CEE SPADE was inclined to hang out throughout the event. DAULAT KIITIBAZEBA – Shifted out approaching the finish line and bumped MARCHEKY BOY. LEADBURN NICCI – As had not started for an extended period, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination, and was cleared to start. Race 3 - Benchmark 60 Handicap 1030 METRES SIDETRIP – Jumped out at the start. BLACK SEA – Crowded for room near the 900m when NINE CIGARS shifted in when not fully clear. C Meehan, rider of NINE CIGARS, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. EXPRESS DRAGON – Lost ground when crowded at the start between SIDESTRIP, which jumped out, and SCARE CAMPAIGN which jumped in. Rider M Crawford reported the horse in his opinion failed to handle the sand track conditions. SHENZI – Slow to begin. NINE CIGARS – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance trainer B Gill stated the horse was first up today following a spell and usually improves going further into its preparation. He added although NINE CIGARS had worked well leading into to today’s event, the stable was surprised by the forward performance. Stewards noted the explanation. SCARE CAMPAIGN – Jumped in at the start. Race 4 - Class B Handicap 1170 METRES JENO – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost ground. Trainer P Duff was advised a warning would be placed on the horse’s barrier manners. QUARTER PAST – Raced wide in the early stages before commencing to weaken from the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer K Sempf was of the opinion the horse, which was having its first start on a sand surface, resented the heavy sand kickback. Mr Sempf further advised he would report back any condition which may come to light in the coming days to explain today’s performance. NICHOLAS ADAM – Approaching the 800m crowded for room and had to be steadied when KING OF THE HARBOUR was momentarily taken in by EDDIEGATO which laid in despite the efforts of its rider. Race 5 - Benchmark 60 Handicap 1470 METRES MALVAGIO – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced three wide for the majority of the event. MY CERTAIN – Raced wide in the early stages of the event. ELUSIVE ELEMENT – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
