On return to scale connections of second past the post CLAIRVUE JET (M Powell), third past the post MISS BONTASTIC (B Newport) and fourth past the post MR TANGLES (B Moffat) all viewed the patrol footage of the home straight. After doing so connections of both CLAIRVUE JET and MR TANGLES elected to take the matter no further, however a protest was lodged by B Newport against first past the post LORD RIVERS (K Gates) alleging interference at the entrance to the home straight. After viewing the patrol footage and hearing submissions from all parties, Stewards found that rounding the home turn LORD RIVERS shifted out marginally when under pressure resulting in MISS BONTASTIC, which was racing to the outside of the heels of LORD RIVERS, being momentarily steadied and obliged to shift to the inside of that runner to obtain clear running. Bearing in mind where the incident took place, the half neck margin at the finish, and the manner in which both horses finished the race off, Stewards dismissed the protest and correct weight declared on the semaphored placings. At a subsequent inquiry K Gates, rider of LORD RIVERS, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.

HE DID IT – Slow to begin.

MA DUSHKA – Slow to begin. Rider R Wilson reported the horse failed to handle the prevailing heavy sand track conditions.

LORD RIVERS – Laid out rounding the home turn.

MR TANGLES – Raced wide for the majority of the event.  Passing the 100 metres, when laying in under pressure, became awkwardly placed at the heels of LORD RIVERS and as a result was unable to be fully tested by its rider to the line.

HEART TWO BEAT – Uncompetitive throughout the event. Rider M Cox explained the horse failed to travel at any stage of the race and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer G Huth indicated HEART TWO BEAT would now be retired from racing however was advised if circumstances were to change the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

MISS BONTASTIC – Rounding the home turn, momentarily steadied and obliged to shift to the inside of LORD RIVERS which shifted out at that point.

Race 5 - Benchmark 55 Hdcp 1170 METRES

I’M THE BUSINESS – Raced wide from the 600 metres.

NINE CIGARS – Raced wide in the early stages of the event.  In the presence of trainer Mr P Duff, representing app R Wilson, rider of NINE CIGARS, Stewards questioned her riding of the horse over the last 400 metres.  R Wilson explained that after placing NINE CIGARS under pressure leaving the 400 metres, she became unbalanced when applying the whip and the horse shifted wider on the track rounding the home turn.  Stewards took the matter no further other than to advise Ms Wilson the matter would be referred to the Racing Queensland Training Department.

SPURIOUS – Slow to begin.

SOLID ASSET – Near the 900 metres crowded for room and had to be steadied when FLYING KASS was taken in by TRUE TALLY.  S Stephan, rider of TRUE TALLY was reprimanded for careless riding under AR131(a) in this incident.

Race 6 - Benchmark 55 Hdcp 1470 METRES

FEND OFF – At the start, rider G Steele momentarily lost use of her near side stirrup iron placing her at some disadvantage before regaining use a short distance later.

GALVARINO – Slow to begin.

YES NO MAYBE SO – Raced three-wide for the majority of the event.

GHETTO BOY – Near the 600 metres shifted in resulting in the right foot of rider C Rogers making contact and brushing the running rail for some distance, placing her at some disadvantage for the remainder of the race.

Following the running of this event, Stewards inquired into a report from starter Mr G Honeywell, regarding comments passed by app M Kennedy, rider of WALKINSHAW, behind the barriers and prior to the loading process commencing.  After taking evidence from Mr Honeywell, barrier attendants Ms A Badger and Mr M Taylor, and app M Kennedy and her master Mr N Hocking, Stewards took no direct action other than to remind apprentice Kennedy of her obligations in regard to manner in which she interacts with race-day officials.
