After doing so connections of both CLAIRVUE JET and MR TANGLES elected to take the matter no further, however a protest was lodged by B Newport against first past the post LORD RIVERS (K Gates) alleging interference at the entrance to the home straight. After viewing the patrol footage and hearing submissions from all parties, Stewards found that rounding the home turn LORD RIVERS shifted out marginally when under pressure resulting in MISS BONTASTIC, which was racing to the outside of the heels of LORD RIVERS, being momentarily steadied and obliged to shift to the inside of that runner to obtain clear running. Bearing in mind where the incident took place, the half neck margin at the finish, and the manner in which both horses finished the race off, Stewards dismissed the protest and correct weight declared on the semaphored placings.
