STEWARDS REPORT

GYMPIE TURF CLUB

SATURDAY 21st SEPTEMBER 2024

WEATHER – Fine             TRACK RATING –  Good (Sand)          RAIL – True

OFFICIALS

Stewards – A. Schofield (chair), J. Williamson.

GENERAL
As jockey C. Eaton was indisposed due to transport difficulties, rider changes were made as per the Raceday Summary.

Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 1. C. Taylor +1kg
Race 3. C. Meehan +1kg
Race 5. M. Butler +1kg

Race 1: THE LEGACY PROMISE BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP    850 Metres

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow trainer B. Black and rider A. Spinks to view the available patrol footage to ascertain whether IGBO had been afforded a fair start. On viewing the patrol footage, it was established that the barrier of IGBO was slow to open resulting in the gelding losing significant ground. Under the provisions of AR204(1)(c), Stewards declared IGBO to be a non-runner and correct weight was declared on the judge’s numbers with the following deductions to apply: 27c for the win, 25c for the place

MR POLAR – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Inclined to over race in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

BABU KING – Blundered on jumping.

I AM JIMMY – Shifted out on jumping and bumped BRAIDWOOD PRINCE. Raced wide throughout. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

YOU ESS ESS ARE – Stewards accepted the reasons tendered by apprentice J. Busuttin for only being able to claim 2kg of her 3kg allowance. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

BRAIDWOOD PRINCE – Slow to begin and bumped shortly afterwards. Raced wide without cover throughout.

Race 2: THE VIETNAM VETERAN’S BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP    1030 Metres

REVITUP CHARLIE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout and shifted wider turning into the home straight.

FIRST GRANGE – Bumped and became unbalanced for several strides shortly after the start.

MAPLE MAGIC – Raced in restricted room for several strides after the start.

NINE CIGARS – Bumped on jumping.

DOOR INTO SUMMER – Raced wide throughout.

HELL OF A PRINCE – Began awkwardly and bumped NINE CIGARS.

LAYLAH’S WISH – Began very awkwardly and shifted in.

Jockey A. Spinks, rider of ROSEFINCH, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future. Raced wide throughout.

BRAIDWOOD QUEEN – Bumped with MEDIA GEM turning into the home straight when that runner laid in for several strides.

MERRIDY ROSE – Forced wider passing the 800m. Raced wide throughout.

INVAHIR – Shifted in abruptly after jumping causing its rider to stop and straighten. Raced wide throughout.

CITY CHICK – Raced wide throughout.

MARCH AS ONE – Bumped on jumping.

YAMUMZA – Began awkwardly. When racing ungenerously, commenced to lay out passing the 800m obliging its rider to straighten his mount. Then was eased down from that point and took no further part in the event. Jockey M. Butler reported that on passing the 800m when he was obliged to straighten the gelding that the bit had become displaced, placing him at a disadvantage and he then elected to restrain his mount out of the race. Trainer A. Olsen reported to Stewards that the gelding had pulled up well on return to his stables and it was his intention to continue on with the racing preparation of YAMUMZA. He added that he would make the necessary gear adjustments to prevent a similar occurrence in future.

NATIVE BEAUTY – Shifted in on jumping and bumped MARCH AS ONE. Passing the 900m, obliged to shift wider when MARCH AS ONE shifted wider. Apprentice N. Palasthy, rider of MARCH AS ONE, was advised to exercise further care when shifting ground and to stop and straighten her mounts earlier in future.
