As Jockey M. Haley was not riding at today’s meeting due to personal reasons he was replaced as per Stewards race-day summary.

RACE 1: BURDEKIN COMMUNICATIONS MAIDEN PLATE (1) – 900M

HARD LOVE – Slow into stride.

ICE WARRIOR – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race. Raced greenly for a short distance near the 400m and shifted in crowding another runner.

PRINCESS MISSY – Crowded for room near the 400m and was steadied.

AMBITIOUS EX – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping heavily with another runner. Improved onto heels approaching the 700m and was steadied.

WRONGLY ACCUSED – Bumped heavily by another runner on jumping and lost ground.

TOBASCO – Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start and became unbalanced.



RACE 2: BURDEKIN VETERINARY SERVICES PTY LTD MAIDEN PLATE (2) – 900M

SARAH’S GIRL – Slow to begin.

BLUMISS – Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages of the race and had a tendency to hang out.

MOLONGLE GLOW – Raced wide in the early and middle stages of the race.

MURTAHOME – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

RACE 3: MALPASS HOTEL CLASS B H’CAP – 1000M

Correct weight was delayed, to allow rider P. Cullen (BUD RICKS) being placed 3rd past the post, to view the Stewards patrol film to see if he grounds to lodged an objection against A. Thomson (MY FRIEND ROB) being declared second past the post, alleging interference over the final 150m. After viewing the official film rider P. Cullen declined to proceed and correct weight was declared on the judge’s semaphored numbers.

MY FRIEND ROB – Hung out under pressure over the concluding stages forcing another runner wider and proving difficult to ride out. Trainer F. Wieland was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners.

BUD RICKS – Forced wider over the concluding stages.

ROCKSTAR ROCKET – Slow to begin.

NORTHERN REVENGE – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

BOUNC CI – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

DOUBLE FORTUNE – Raced wide in the early stages of the race.

INSOLVENT – Raced wide for the majority of the race. Lost it’s off fore plate during the race.


RACE 4: PACIFIC REEF FISHERIES QTIS BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1180M

LOVE ME RUBY – Slow to begin.

BIDAFLARE – Slow into stride.

WE’LL BEAT IT – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

ANNE CATHERINE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

ARNHEM BEAUTY – Fractious during in its preliminary. Raced wide and hung out leaving the 500m shifting very wide on the track. Trainer M. Young was advised the mare must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards in regards to its parading manners and racing manners prior to being permitted to race again.

RACE 5: BATTLE OF THE BUSH QUALIFIER OPEN H'CAP – 1180M

SUNNY CHIEF – Bounded in the air as the start was effected and lost ground.

WE FOUND IT – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

ANZUS – Compounded in the home straight. When questioned into its performance rider C. Jokic stated that in her opinion the gelding failed to run out 1180m and would be better suited to shorter distances than that of today’s event. She further added the horse was making respiratory noises. Trainer O. Cairns agreed with Ms Jokic and that she would attempt to race the gelding over shorter distances, she further gave an undertaking to advise Stewards should anything come to her attention in near future that may have had a bearing on today’s performance. A veterinary examination failed to reveal any signifigent abnormalities.

RACE 6: LANDMARK BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1460M

PERFECTLY SWEET – Declared a late scratching at 3.57pm by order of Stewards acting on veterinary advice when the mare was found to be lame in both front legs. Stewards advised Mr Tapiolas that he must provide a full veterinary clearance before the horse would be permitted to race again. Mr Tapiolas advised Stewards the mare would now be retired from racing.
On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on PERFECTLY SWEET were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 8 cents in the dollar on the face value of all win bets and 9 cents in the dollar on the face value of all place bets to be applicable.

SUPAMETEOR – Slow into stride.

SOUND INVESTMENT – Over-raced in the early stages of the race.

UNDER THE WEATHER – Raced ungenerously for the majority of the race and threw its head in the air when being restrained near the 1400m. Shifted in near the 1200m hampering a runner to its inside.

DIAMOND RACER – Steadied near the 1200m when crowded for room.

SILVER BOWS – Made the 1300m crossing awkwardly.

IRISH HEART – Rider S. Wiseman was cautioned in regards to her use of the whip prior to the 100m.

RACE 7: CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES BURDEKIN CUP BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1830M

BRADMAN – Connections advised Stewards the gelding would be ridden from back in field should circumstances permit. This was broadcast via the course announcer. Began well and over-raced early racing in a forward position. Shifted out near 150m under pressure when tiring placing another runner in restricted room. Rider M. Wishart was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.

FAR NORTH – Placed in restricted room near the 150 and was steadied.

ZEDAHEEL – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

PREQUEL – Had a tendency to lay out for the majority of the race. Raced wide in the middle early stages.
