QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT HOME HILL SATURDAY 1 APRIL 2023 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 4 RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – D. GriffithsStewards – S. Coulthard, K. Dean (Cadets)Clerk of Scales – StewardsJudge – R. Gudge (Races 1,2,3 & 5). Assistant Judge – D Tapiolas (Judge Race 4). Veterinarian – Dr. D. Viero Swab Attendant – Dr. D. VieroStarter – J. McIntosch General: Apprentice L O’Donnell was questioned as to the reason she was only able to claim 1.5 kgs of her allocated 2 kg apprentice claim and not ride at her approved weight at the meeting. After hearing an explanation from Apprentice L O’Donnell, Stewards accepted her explanation and approved same. ADJOURNED ENQUIRY: An enquiry opened after the running of Race 4 involving Trainer Ms. J Hatfield and unlicenced person Mr H Manzelmann will be reconvened at a time and date to be fixed. Both parties were questioned at length in relation to any movements they made from the stabling area to the float car park. Stewards inspected the float and vehicle used by Trainer J Hatfield to transport three runners to the Burdekin Race Club and acting under the provisions of AR 251(a) the Stewards took possession of a medication vial and associated paraphernalia . The following runners under the care of Trainer Ms. J Hatfield were sent for a swab. R1 ST MORITZ, R3 FLYING SHAMUS and R3 KOSCINA. The enquiry into this matter was adjourned until and a time and date to be fixed. Starting Due to a mechanical issue with the Barriers automatic starting mechanism, all races were manually started. Scratchings: R2 TRAJIC FRIENDS, MISS STARLETTE (No rider available)R3 ON YOUR SKATESR5 TACTICAL ILLUSION Prerace Veterinary Inspections The following horses which raced at Mackay on 28 March 2023 were inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start. R1 ST MORITZ, GET OUT OF MY NEIGH (NZ)R2 BERGKAMPR3 BIT OF FUN, IXELLES Race 1: SEVEN WEEKS TILL GROWERS DAY Benchmark 55 Handicap 1460m STARS DON’T RUST – Raced wide until the 800m. SEA ECHO – Difficult to load and slow to begin. Raced poorly and failed to run on. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer D Reynolds advised on 3 April 2023, that the gelding would be sent for an endoscopic examinations ('scoping') conducted by his Veterinary Surgeon and he will advise Stewards of the results.MALVAGIO – Overraced in the early and middle stages. COLLOMBATTI – Hung in over the final 150m. ST MORITZ – Slow to begin. WHOBETHATNOW – Overraced in the early and middle stages. GETOUT OF MY NEIGH (NZ) – Raced wide in the middle stages. Shifted around the heels of the tiring STARS DON’T RUST to improve at the 150 metres. Race 2: GROWERS TREASURE CHEST Maiden Plate 1180m BERGKAMP – Slow into stride. Approaching the home turn, Apprentice J. Doolan attempted a narrow run to the inside of FREYA’S CHOICE and had to be steadied around heels when that runner shifted marginally back towards the running rail. RISKED IT – Jumped awkwardly and then shifted out hampering BERGKAMP which had been slow into stride. Jockey D. Smith reported that the gelding when leading had the tendency to hang out for most of the event. Approaching the finishing line, shifted out and hampered WINDPIPE and OLYMPIC MOTTO. C’EST BELLE – Slow to begin. FREYA’S CHOICE – Steadied off the heels of RISKED IT at the 650m, WINDPIPE which was trailing was hampered. Race 3: GROWERS FRUIT & VEG GIVEAWAY Class B Handicap 1180m FLYING SHAMUS – Post-race swab. LINE OF KINGS – Raced wide throughout. BIT OF FUN – Over raced and had to be steadied off heels in the back straight. Momentarily held up at the 250m. KOSCINA – Raced wide throughout. Post-race swab. Race 4: GROWERS NEXTGEN PLATINUM MARQUEE OPEN Plate 1000m PRIMAL SCREAM – Shied on the way to the barriers and ran through the outside plastic running rail at the 1460 metres dislodging Jockey F. Edwards. Jockey F. Edwards was examined by QAS and stood down from his remaining rides at today’s meeting due to suffering a back injury. PRIMAL SCREAM was recaptured at the barriers and was declared a late scratching at 4:00pm by order of the Stewards with the following deductions to be applied.55c win, 38c place (Winner)29c (2nd place) All monies invested on PRIMAL SCREAM to be refunded. PRIMAL SCREAM was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and had suffered no injuries. Trainer S Bush was advised that PRIMAL SCREAM is stood down from racing until a satisfactory trial is performed. Race 5: GROWERS’ DAY 20th MAY QTIS Class 3 Plate 1000m RUGGED ROY – Slow to begin. GOLDEN EIGHTY - Difficult to load. THE LOUT – An enquiry was opened into the reason for THE LOUT (P Romeo) losing ground sharply approaching the turn out of the back straight when racing to the inside of GOLDEN EIGHTY (App J Doolan). After taking evidence from both riders and the apprentices Master Trainer John Manzelmann, it was confirmed that GOLDEN EIGHTY had shifted in over a short distance at that point tightening THE LOUT. GOLDEN EIGHTY then was immediately corrected and eased wider on the track thereafter. After considering the matter, Stewards issued Apprentice J Doolan with a severe reprimand under the provisions of AR131(a) for allowing her mount to shift in when not clear to do so. In assessing the matter, Stewards considered some mitigating circumstances. JUST VERA – Hung out approaching the turn out of the back straight and lost ground.Trainer Ms K Allender was advised that a final warning was issued regarding the mares racing manners for hanging out. LISTEN LISTEN – Stood flat footed and lost ground when the barriers opened. GOLDEN EIGHTY- Shifted in at the 600 metres causing a tightening.Became unbalanced shortly after when checked wider on the track to allow room to runners to the inside.
