SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

6th of October 2023 – Race 5 – Carlton & United Breweries Class 1 Handicap 1200m - Townsville

Stewards inquired into an incident that took place in the vicinity of the 500m whereby PRIVATE SECTOR (J. Murphy) was obliged to be restrained when ARTIEBE (D. Smith) shifted in. After taking evidence from the riders concerned, and reviewing the available angles, stewards determined ARTIEBE shifted in momentarily under riding, causing PRIVATE SECTOR to be restrained. Stewards were mindful of the evidence tendered by jockey J. Murphy, however, were critical of the shift made by jockey D. Smith on ARTIEBE and jockey D. Smith was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for this incident.

GENERAL

Prior to the running of race 1, stewards inspected the track and upgraded to a Good 3 at 11:30am.


Race 1: THE POINT MAIDEN PLATE 1460M


Prior to the running of race 1, stewards observed Trainer L. Manzelmann entering the racecourse grounds, leading two horses engaged to race in today’s event without bits in their mouths, resulting in Trainer L. Manzelmann being reprimanded pursuant AR 124(3).

CANELANDER – Jumped the crossing. Raced wide for the majority. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, jockey G. Kliese stated that his mount hung out throughout today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Stewards spoke to trainer R. Gudge regarding the racing future of CANELANDER, who advised stewards that it was his intention is to retire the gelding.

GEORGE TOWN – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Raced wide with cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have dirt in its offside eye.

IMPERIUM –Trainer M. Geaney was fined $100 pursuant to LR 67(1) in that he failed to declare a rider within the prescribed time. Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide for the majority.

LORD OF PENNO – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to not having started in an extended period of time and was passed fit to start.

ATHENA'S SECRET – On return to scale, jockey L. Morrison reported that her mount hung in severely throughout the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that a warning would be issued regarding the mare hanging in.

HERO OF THE PACK – Inside the 100m was disappointed for a run and was unable to be fully tested to the line.

LIZA IN LIGHTS – Shifted in abruptly on jumping, dislodging app. G. Semmens. App. G. Semmens was subsequently examined by the QAS officers and cleared to fulfill her remaining riding engagements. A post-race veterinary examination revealed mare to have sustained bruising to both flanks. Trainer D. Reynolds was advised a warning would be issued regarding the mares racing manners.

STILLWATER – Hung out rounding the home turn. App. E. Molloy dropped her whip in the vicinity of 150m.


Race 2: SHARK BAY BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1460M

Prior to the running of this race, it was established that STRATHCONA had been incorrectly presented as ZAKHEERA. After realizing the error, the correct horse ZAKHEERA was presented to start. Trainer D. Reynolds was found guilty of a charge pursuant AR99(1)(b) in that he failed to ensure that the correct horse was presented to start in the event. Trainer D. Reynolds was issued a $1000 fine with $500 to be suspended for a period of 12 months, providing that this rule is not breached again within that period.

KEIGHLEY SUN – Over raced in the early stages. In the vicinity of the 600m, rolled in momentarily, tightening SEEFELD to the inside.

CONQUERING JUDAS – Bumped by COLLOMBATTI when it shifted out on jumping.

COLLOMBATTI – Shifted out on jumping bumping CONQUERING JUDAS.

ABSOLUTE CHARMER – Raced wide without cover.

SEEFELD – Tightened at the start. In the vicinity of the 600m, was obliged to ease when racing in restricted room against the inside running rail when KEIGHLEY SUN rolled in momentarily. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

LIGHTHEADEDNESS – Shifted in on jumping tightening SEEFELD.

ZAKHEERA – Shifted out on jumping tightening SEEFELD. Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide with cover.


Race 3: STARLIGHT BAY CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1180M

WRITTLE – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted today, jockey A. Butler stated that on jumping he was caught back in the field and as a result elected to allow his mount to settle where comfortable. Approaching the 1000m was obliged to restrain momentarily off the heels of STRATHCONA. Raced wide with cover. In the vicinity of the 250m, was obliged to take hold to avoid the heels of READAPT who shifted out when insufficiently clear. Jockey A. Sewell the rider of READAPT pled guilty to a charge pursuant to AR131(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift ground under riding when insufficiently clear of WRITTLE and as a result jockey A. Butler was obliged to take hold and lost his rightful run. Jockey A. Sewell’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight the 21st of October and to expire midnight the 28th of October 2023. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

STRATHCONA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

VAPORIZING – Declared a late scratching at 12:18pm due to transport difficulties. No deductions were applicable as on-course betting on the event had not commenced.

AURA GOLD – On returning to scale, jockey M. Butler reported that his saddle slipped back on jumping.

SUPER FAST – Raced wide throughout.

SUPREME PRINCE – In the vicinity of the 1000m, had to be aware of heels, when OLD SCHOOL was taken wider by READAPT.

OLD SCHOOL – In the vicinity of the 1000m was taken wider when READAPT rolled out momentarily. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

READAPT – Approaching the 1000m, rolled out momentarily. In the vicinity of the 250m, shifted out to obtain clear running when insufficiently clear of WRITTLE, which resulted in jockey A. Butler having to take hold of his mount to avoid the heels READAPT.


Race 4: JOHNSONS BAY BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1830M

SHADOW GODDESS – Shifted in on jumping. Raced wide in the middle stages.

ROCKETORO – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

MISSION HOUSE – Bumped by SIZZLING SUN on jumping. Shortly after passing the winning post on the first occasion, was restrained when improving onto the heels of ROCKETORO when the pace slackened.

LADY OF FORTUNE – Passing the 600m, was obliged to race in restricted room inside JESKO.

STAR INES – Slow to begin.

SIZZLING SUN – Jumped inwards and bumped MISSION HOUSE. Shortly after the passing the winning post on the first occasion, momentarily became unbalanced when racing in restricted room as the tempo of the race slackened.


Race 5: RQ SUPPORTS RACING INDUSTRY SAFETY QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1180M

MISHANI MAVERICK – In the vicinity of the 700m, was obliged to shift to the outside from I’M PINKER when the tempo of the race slackened. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

FLORAL CODE – Shifted out on jumping, contacting KARAKAROO. Approaching the 700m, had to be mindful of the heels of MISHANI MAVERICK due to the tempo of the race slackening.

I'M PINKER – Awkward to begin. App. B. Johnson was reminded of her obligations to take greater care when slowing the tempo of a race.

KARAKAROO – Shifted in on jumping, contacting FLORAL CODE. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

FORCESOME – Raced wide in the middle stages.

YELLOWSTONE BETH – Commenced to over race passing the 600m.

HUGHIE VUITTON – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.


Race 6: FLAGSTAFF BAY OPEN HANDICAP 1180M

BRAD – A post-race veterinary examination which revealed no significant findings.

GAME THEORY – Wayward in the home straight.

HELL OF A BOY – Raced keenly in the early stages.

FAMILY STAR – Raced keenly in the early stages. Over the concluding stages, raced in restricted room.

TEMPO (NZ) – Began awkwardly.

HIT SNOOZE – Began awkwardly.

KISS ME LATER – At approximately the 250m, shifted out across the heels of GAME THEORY to obtain clear running.


Race 7: MOONLIGHT BAY CLASS 6 PLATE 1000M

BAY OF BENGAL – Bounded on jumping and as a result was slow into stride.

MACEDON FLYER – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

PHANTOM SPIRIT – Shifted in abruptly on jumping away, hampering CHATILLY.

CHATILLY – Hampered on jumping when PHANTOM SPIRIT shifted in.

RED BOOMSHAKALAKA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

FREDERICK THE DANE – Shifted inwards on jumping, bumping GOSSIP TORQUE.

GOSSIP TORQUE – Dipped at the start and was bumped by FREDERICK THE DANE which shifted in on jumping. On return to scale app. E. Molloy reported that her mount hung out on the home turn.


Race 8: BAWDEN BAY CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1000M

HEISWOODY – In the vicinity of the 800m was obliged to be checked when ACT OF ROYALTY was taken in by GOLDEN CHARLES who abruptly shifted in and away from OUR ADDICTION. Thereafter commenced to over race. Jockey L. Morrison was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) and advised to take greater care when allowing her mount to shift ground under riding in similar circumstances.

INNER SPIRIT – Over raced early. Raced wide for the majority.

OUR ADDICTION –Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

KIHI – Slow to begin. Disappointed for clear running over the concluding stages and as a result, was unable to be tested fully to the line.

FOREVEREDE – Awkward to begin and bumped with ACT OF ROYALTY.

GOLDEN CHARLES – Approaching the 800m shifted in and away abruptly from OUR ADDICTION who, from a wide barrier, under riding, was taking a position towards the lead. Hung out severely rounding the home turn. Trainer N. Nelson was advised a warning would be issued regarding the gelding hanging out severely.

ACT OF ROYALTY – Presented to the mounting yard without it’s nominated gear (winkers). Trainer T. Simmons was fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of AR106(1). Awkward to begin, bumped with FOREVEREDE. In the vicinity of the 800 was taken in onto HEISWOODY by GOLDEN CHARLES and was obliged to take hold.

GULF OF ODESSA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. When questioned, app. R. Wilson stated that the gelding failed to muster any speed and in her opinion would be better suited to further distances. Trainer S. Seymour advised stewards that the gelding lost a shoe in running and confirmed that GULF OF ODESSA is better suited to further distances.
