QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT BURDEKIN RACE CLUB HOME HILL – TUESDAY 28 NOVEMBER 2023 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – SOFT 5 RAIL – TRUE ENTIRE COURSE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – D. GriffithsStewards – P. Warren, K. Dean, S. Nosworthy (Cadet)Clerk of Scales – StewardsJudge – E. HarveyVeterinarian – D. Viero Swab Attendant – A. LeeStarter – M. Coleman General: As Jockey C. Spry was indisposed, he was replaced as per the Steward’s summary. Stewards accepted the following rider overweights:Race 5. A.Best +1.0kg Race 1:GROPER CREEK BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1830M OLYMPIC KORCHNOI – When questioned on the improved performance, trainer T. Rowe stated that the addition of blinkers to OLYMPIC KORCHNOI along with a reduction in class had contributed. Stewards noted the explanation. CIAO BICKY – Approaching the home turn, was momentarily tightened for room between OLYMPIC KORCHNOI and EXALTED CROWN. SHADOW GODDESS – Slow into stride. EXALTED CROWN – Shortly after the start, EXALTED CROWN lost a near-side winker. Race 2:PLANTATION CREEK QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1000M SECRET ENCRYPTION – Bumped with ROCKET POWER on jumping. KOBAYASTAR – KOBAYASTAR was declared a late scratching at 1:35PM after becoming fractious in the enclosure, at the barriers and then refusing to load. Stewards ordered that all bets on KOBAYASTAR be refunded with the following deductions to apply: 1st I’LLTELLYOUNOW 2c win, 4c place2nd MARGOT BARBIE 10c place Trainer M. McGuire was advised that KOBAYASTAR must now complete an official trial or jumpout satisfactorily prior to racing again. ROCKET POWER –Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.Bumped with SECRET ENCRYPTION on jumping.WEBS – Slow into stride. Raced ungenerously in the back straight. Shifted in at the 800m contacting the running rail and becoming unbalanced. Race 3: SALTWATER CREEK OPEN Handicap 1000M BONES – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, Jockey A. Butler advised that after beginning well and finding a forward position, BONES was not travelling comfortably from the 600m and failed to run on as expected. Trainer G. Holt stated that the horse had pulled up satisfactorily and, in her opinion, the humidity may have affected today’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer G. Holt was advised to inform stewards should anything become apparent in the coming days. Race 4: OCEAN CREEK QTIS Maiden Plate 1000M Correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of OUT OF SIGHT to view the photo finish for 2nd place. Once satisfied, correct weight was declared on the Judge’s semaphored numbers. RUBICKS CHOICE – Over-raced in the middle stages. THE LAST CRUSADE – Raced greenly over the concluding stages. DEEP SILENCE – Slow into stride. Passing the 600m, contacted the running rail. When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted, apprentice jockey B. Johnson stated that after jumping on terms with the field, DEEP SILENCE failed to muster early speed, then became inconvenienced between the 600m and 300m behind horses not improving and was unable to ease wider to obtain clear running at that point. Apprentice Johnson further stated that she attempted to take a narrow run on the inside of FAIRYBOWER FLYER but was unable to fully test her mount in the early stages of the straight. Trainer K. Miller advised that the instructions issued to Apprentice B Johnson were to go forward, however the horse has previously been tardy at the start in some previous jumpouts. Stewards noted the explanations of trainer K Miller and Apprentice B Johnson. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. FAIRYBOWER FLYER – Approaching the 600m, raced ungenerously and shifted out contacting CARVETI. Hung in at the 250 metres hampering DEEP SILENCE. ROMPA – Raced wide for the majority. Raced ungenerously rounding the home turn. SPIETH OF LIGHT – Laid in over the concluding stages. CARVETI - As Jockey J. Felix was unable to make the allocated weight, stewards permitted Jockey D. Smith to be substituted as the rider. Jockey J. Felix was subsequently fined $200 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Race 5: SUGAR LOAF QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1180M KEEP ON RUNNING – Jumped awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. MISHANI CRUISE – Raced three wide for the majority. AIRBORNE HOTDOG – Passing the 500m, blundered and shifted out abruptly contacting the hind quarters of KEEP ON RUNNING, then preceded to become unbalanced and lose ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer S. Cooper was advised that a warning was placed on the gelding which finished a considerable distance behind the field. EYES ARE LION – Raced three wide for the majority. Shifted in rounding the home turn,tightening NELLYATION, which was taken onto SUPER CHEAP. Jockey S.Sheargold was severly reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for allowing his mount to shift inwhen insuficiently clear. SUPER CHEAP – Raced in restricted room rounding the home turn. MISHANI TWILIGHT – Inclined to lay in over the concluding stages. NELLYATION – As Jockey A. Best was unable to arrive at the course by the precribed time due to transport difficulties, stewards permitted jockey D. Smith to be subsituted as the rider. Tightened for room when rounding the home turn when tiring. Race 6: MOLONGLE CREEK BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1180M Correct weight was delayed to allow N. Thomas, the rider of MAKE IT HAPPEN, to view the footage over the concluding stages. Once satisfied, correct weight was declared on the Judge’s semaphored numbers. TEMPO – Shifted in abruptly on jumping hampering NUKE, which was taken onto COODARADY. NUKE – Hampered at the start. Raced wide with cover for the majority. AIDENABET – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn before shifting to the outside of HIT SNOOZE. KEIGHLEY SUN – After the running of todays event, trainer R. Gudge advised that KEIGHLEY SUN would be retired. MR TANGLES – MR TANGLES was declared a late scratching at 4:05PM after dislodging Jockey A. Butler and galloped on the course proper for some distance before being re-captured. Stewards ordered that all bets on MR TANGLES be refunded with the following deductions to apply: 1st TEMPO 25c Win, 22c Place2nd MAKE IT HAPPEN 19c Place.3rd AIDENABET 16c Place Jockey A. Butler reported that the signage above the barriers was blown upwards during a gust of wind which resulted in MR TANGLES shying and dislodging him. Stewards checked the footage and confirmed the same. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. COODARADY - As the gelding had raced at Cairns on Friday the 24th of November, it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. At the start was taken in onto NUKE by TEMPO which shifted in abruptly. Raced wide for the majority. Race 7: WALLACE CREEK BENCHMARK 45 Handicap 1460M MALVAGIO – As Apprentice Jockey B. Johnson was indisposed, stewards permitted Jockey B. Moffat to be substituted as the rider. Apprentice Jockey B. Johnson was advised that she would require a medical clearance prior to race riding again. Began awkwardly and Apprentince Jockey B. Moffat became unbalanced as a result. REBEL LAKE – A post race veterinary examination revaled no significant abnormalities. ACCTORIES – Laid in over the concluding stages. GULF OF ODESSA – Slow into stride. BLEND – Slow to begin. Race 8: ROCKY PONDS BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1000M TIME TO STAR – Bumped with GOLDEN CHARLES on jumping. DAWN STRIKE – Slow into stride. FLAMING HOMER – Shifted out on jumping, contacting MURUNGAL, which was taken out onto BRINGYATICKET. Passing the 600m, hung out hampering FAV’S FLYER, which had to be steadied. BRINGYATICKET – Contacted by MURUNGAL shortly after the start. Laid in over the concluding stages. Approaching the winning post, shifted in, causing FLAMING HOMER to be steadied. Jockey A. Butler was advised to take greater care in similar circumstances. MURUNGAL – Taken out onto BRINGYATICKET by FLAMING HOMER. GOLDEN CHARLES -As the gelding had raced at Cairns on Friday the 24th of November,underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Bumped with TIME TO STAR on jumping. HERO’S CHOICE -As the gelding had raced at Pentland on Saturday the 24th of November ,underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Raced wide for the majority.
