SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
From Friday 12/01/2024 - Following a stable inspection at Bowen, apprentice jockey G. Semmens was found to be riding trackwork without an approved safety vest. Apprentice G. Semmens was issued with a reprimand pursuant to AR 123(1) and was advised a monetary penalty would be imposed on any future breach.
 
From Tuesday 17/01/24 - Following a stable inspection at Ingham, jockey D. Sparks was found to be riding trackwork without an approved safety vest. Jockey D. Sparks was issued with a reprimand pursuant to AR 123(1) and was advised a monetary penalty would be imposed on any future breach.

 
GENERAL
 
As jockey Amanda Thomson failed to arrive on course or advise of her nonattendance, stewards permitted rider replacements as per the Stewards’ Race-day Summary. Jockey A. Thomson will be interviewed at a time and date to be fixed for not fulfilling her riding engagements and will be stood down from accepting any further engagements until such time as she is interviewed in relation to the matter.
 
Race 1: JOCK FOOTE QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000M
 
The start was delayed 10 minutes from the advertised starting time because of the barriers opening prematurely during the loading process. All runners were quickly restrained and individually underwent pre-race examinations and were all passed fit to start.
 
DALT JAZ – Bumped with PUBSMIRACLESCRIPT upon jumping.
 
MARCH MADNESS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection after initially breaking through the barriers and was passed fit to start. Slow into stride.
 
PUBSMIRICLESCRIPT – Bumped with DALT JAZ upon jumping.
 
MISHANI STYLE - Refused to load into the barriers on the second occasion and was subsequently declared a late scratching by order of the stewards at 12:47pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on MISHANI STYLE be refunded with the following deductions to apply –  
 
1st – 0c the win, 2c the place
2nd – 4c the place
3rd – No third dividend.
 
Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that MISHANI STYLE would be required to obtain a barrier certificate prior to next racing.
 
 
Race 2: DICK DAVIES CLASS 1 PLATE 1830M
 
The start was delayed 6 minutes past the advertised starting time due the events of Race 1.
 
LENNY ROCKET – Began awkwardly.
 
RUN RAMPANT – Bumped with LIZA IN LIGHTS upon jumping. Inclined to lay in over the concluding stages.
 
KARAKAROO – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised not to start the gelding until satisfied that it would be competitive.
 
WINTILLY – Performed below market expectations. Jockey A. Sewell could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance and advised that the mare was off the bit in the early and middle stages and failed to run on.
 
LIZA IN LIGHTS – Bumped with RUN RAMPANT upon jumping.
 
Race 3: BOB SHOYER OPEN HANDICAP 1180M
 
SIR ROCKET – Hung in throughout the event. 
 
FANAAR (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 4: ALF ZELLER MAIDEN HANDICAP 1180M
 
RUBICKS CHOICE – Shifted out over the concluding stages.
 
SPRING'S GIFT – Raced wide throughout.
 
MAGGIE'S ME NAME – Approaching the point of the 700m, jockey S. Sheargold’s saddle shifted placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event. Shifted in over the concluding stages.
 
GEORGE TOWN – Slow into stride. Had to be momentarily eased off the heels of another runner at the 150m.
 
C'EST BELLE – Slow into stride.
 
CHARGRILL – Raced wide throughout. Hung in abruptly approaching the 150m, causing jockey N. Thomas to momentarily stop riding to straighten his mount.

CHRISTMAS TIME – Slow into stride.
 
FAIRYBOWER FLYER – Commenced to over-race from 1000m and shifted in abruptly at the 600m. Shifted out at the 150m, causing GEORGE TOWN to be steadied off heels. Apprentice jockey I. Teh was reminded of her obligations to exercise care when in similar circumstances.
 
TSUNAMI FORCE – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and was unable to improve at that point for a short distance. Over the concluding stages, had to be steadied when racing between RUBICKS CHOICE and MAGGIE’S THE NAME both of which shifted ground. Jockeys G. Kliese (RUBICKS CHOICE) and jockey S. Sheargold (MAGGIE’S THE NAME) were advised to exercise care when in similar circumstances.
 
Race 5: JOHN ROWAN BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1460M
 
BRAZEN BRECCIA – On returning to scale, apprentice jockey S. Nielson reported that the gelding when racing outside the leader, hung out to a three wide position turning out of the back straight.
 
DAWN STRIKE – Raced three wide throughout.
 
ANOTHER JACK – Passing the 1300m, proceeded to jump the crossing. Jockey S. Sheargold’s saddle shifted in running, placing him at a disadvantage.
 
MARTY AWHA – Commenced to over-race shortly after the start. Ran wide making the home turn.
 
CLOUDY MISS – Held up for clear running making the home turn, then shifted inwards across heels to obtain clear running.
 
ORCA – At the 600m, became momentarily unbalanced when contacted by SIZZLING SUN which shifted in .
 
SIZZLING SUN – At the point of the 600m, shifted in contacting ORCA which became unbalanced.
 
Race 6: JIM JOYCE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP   1000M
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing stewards to view the start of the event and speak with Apprentice S Nielson and Starter. It was established that EYEWITNESS stood flat-footed of its own accord when the gates opened, declined to jump and then became extremely fractious in the barriers, dislodging Apprentice S Nielson. As the cause of EYEWITNESS missing the start was due to its own barrier manners, correct weight was subsequently declared on the semaphored placings. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised the gelding must obtain a barrier certificate prior to next racing. Apprentice S Nielson was not injured in this incident.
 
EYEWITNESS – Stood flat-footed at the start, then became extremely fractious, dislodging it’s rider. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised the gelding must obtain a barrier certificate prior to next racing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
FOCUS – Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
ACOUSTIX – Raced wide throughout. Cast an off-hind plate at the 300 metres.
 
GREENHEART (NZ) – As jockey A. Thomson failed to arrive on course, Stewards replaced her with jockey N. Thomas.
 
 
Race 7: PETER TAPIOLAS CLASS 3 PLATE           1000 M
 
BOOM RANGA – Raced three wide throughout. Hung in for much of the event.
 
STRONACH – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a near side shoulder injury. Trainer B. Thomson was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to next racing.
 
KWINERN – Passing the 150m, shifted to the inside across the heels of TRINITY MISSILE to gain clear running.
 
MURUNGAL – Slow into stride.
 
SCHATZI – Stood flat-footed and lost considerable ground at the start. Trainer J. Hatfield was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare.
 
Race 8: BRC VOLUNTEERS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1180M
 
LUCIA MARIA – LUCIA MARIA was declared a late scratching at 4:44pm on veterinary advice. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on LUCIA MARIS be refunded with the following deductions to apply –  
 
1st – 5c the win, 6c the place
2nd – 8c the place
3rd – 8c the place
 
Trainer T. Simmons was advised that the filly would be required to obtain a veterinary certificate prior to next racing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed neck pain for the mare.
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to view a head on patrol film showing the start.
 
RUBY SPARKLES – Immediately after jumping, the mare shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider, severely checking THE LAST CRUSADE and REAL EMPRESS. RUBY SPARKLES then shortly after continued to shift in abruptly and severely checked ELLIE’S DREAM, BRAVE MISSILE, and MISS HELMUT.
Jockey R. Olivera (MISS HELMUT) was dislodged consequently. The riderless MISS HELMUT then hampered FERGYLISCIOUS and LE BERNADIN  before clearing the field. Trainer T. Button was advised that RUBY SPARKLES would require two consecutive satisfactory trials or jump outs prior to next racing, one of which must be performed jumping from an outside barrier.
 
FERGYLISCIOUS – Hampered on jumping by the continued shift of RUBY SPARKLES.
 
ELLIE'S DREAM - Severely checked at the start by the continued shift of RUBY SPARKLES with jockey G. Kliese almost being dislodged. Upon returning to scale, jockey G. Kliese reported that his saddle shifted because of the interference.
 
THE LAST CRUSADE – Severely checked at the start by RUBY SPARKLES with jockey N. Thomas almost being dislodged.
 
LE BERNADIN – Hampered by the continued shift of RUBY SPARKLES.
 
REAL EMPRESS - Severely checked at the start by RUBY SPARKLES with jockey I. Teh almost being dislodged.
 
MISS HELMUT - Severely checked by the continued shift of RUBY SPARKLES at the start, with jockey R. Olivera being dislodged as a result. Jockey R. Olivera suffered a left shoulder injury and was transported to hospital by QAS staff for further examination. Jockey R. Olivera will be advised that he would require a medical clearance before next riding.
 
BRAVE MISSILE - As jockey A. Thomson failed to arrive on course and with no other senior rider being available, Stewards permitted her to be replaced by apprentice M. Apel. Severely checked by the continued shift of RUBY SPARKLES with apprentice jockey M. Apel almost being dislodged.
