Race 1: BURDEKIN VETERINARY SERVICES BENCHMARK 50 Handicap 1460 M
 
GOGGLEBOX  - Was declared a late scratching at 9:00am after sustaining an injury while being transported to the meeting. Trainer T. Simmons was advised GOGGLEBOX would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
 
OH MY HAT – Shifted in on jumping bumping with LET’S ROLL.
 
LET’S ROLL – Bumped by OH MY HAT on jumping. Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
MISS SHALAA – Raced wide with cover in the middle stages. Inclined to lay in over the concluding stages.
 
MARTY AWHA – Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 2: STAR LIQOUR OPEN Handicap 1000 M
 
Stewards permitted apprentice G Semmens to replace S Sheargold aboard LILY ALLEZ (NZ) who was dually engaged (refer Stewards Report Townsville Turf Club Friday 17 May 2024).
 
ALI’S JAB – Was declared a late scratching at 11:00am after sustaining an injury while being transported to the meeting. Trainer M. Dale was advised ALI’s JAB would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
 
OCEAN EMPEROR – Slow into stride.
 
ASPEN LAD – Shifted in passing the 900m momentarily crowding LILY ALLEZ (NZ). Jockey S. Sheargold was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for allowing his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear.
 
CABALO ESCURO – Slow into stride. Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
OUTBACK ACTION – Slow to begin.
 
DUSKY DAMSEL – Taken in by GDANSK when that runner was crowded for room by LILY ALLEZ (NZ)
 
LILY ALLEZ (NZ) – Crowded inwards near the 900m when inside ASPEN LAD which shifted in. In turn LILY ALLEZ(NZ) continued to shift in crowding GDANSK in onto DUSKY DAMSEL which had to be steadied. Notwithstanding the shift inwards by ASPEN LAD (S.Sheargold), apprentice G. Semmens was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) in that after the pressure had been relieved by ASPEN LAD, she permitted her mount to shift ground inwards when not clear.
 
GDANSK – Crowded for room passing the 850m when LILY ALLEZ(NZ) shifted inwards.
 
On returning to scale, jockey N. Thomas, rider of 3rd placegetter DUSKY DAMSEL and apprentice jockey G. Semmens, rider of 2nd placegetter LILY ALLEZ (NZ) advised they wished to lodge an objection against 1st placegetter ASPEN LAD alleging interference in the early stages of the event. After consideration of all relevant factors including evidence for the respected riders and connections, along with the vision of the event, Stewards dismissed both protests with correct weight declared on the judge’s numbers.
 
Race 3: LYSAGHT BENCHMARK 45 Handicap 1000 M
 
LINE OF KINGS - Was declared a late scratching at 11:00am after sustaining an injury while being transported to the meeting. Trainer R. Henderson was advised LINE OF KINGS would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
 
CHUCKA DUMMY – When questioned on the performance, jockey A. Butler stated that after jumping on terms with the field, CHUCKA DUMMY failed to stretch out and in consequence lost considerable ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.  Trainer A. Mules advised that it is his intention to retire the gelding nonetheless a warning was issued.
 
DIVINE SIENNA – Bumped with ARROGANT HEART on jumping. Laid in and brushed with RUBY SPARKLES passing the 150m.
 
TENNAGAIN – Began awkwardly. Raced ungenerously and keenly in the middle stages.
 
RUBY SPARKLES – Bumped with ICE SKATER on jumping. Brushed with DIVINE SIENNA passing the 150m.
 
ICE SKATER – Bumped with RUBY SPARKLES on jumping.
 
ARROGANT HEART – Bumped with DIVINE SIENNA on jumping.
 
Race 4: STAFFORD STOCK & PROPERTY QTIS Maiden Plate 1180 M
 
KAI COME – Apprentice Jockey M. Goring was permitted to ride his mount +1.5kg over his riding weight and was reprimanded pursuant to AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim his full allowance. Began very awkwardly and became unbalanced for a short distance.  Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
SWITCH AND SLIDE – Contacted the running rail passing the 700 metres.
 
MISHANI PLATINUM – Contacted on jumping and was slow into stride as a result.
 
THREDBO – Shifted out at the start.
 
Race 5: NUTRIEN AG SOLUTIONS BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1180 M
 
TEMPO (NZ) – Began awkwardly and shifted in contacting MISS DAURIAN. Raced four-wide for the majority. Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
HIT SNOOZE – Bounded on jumping and lost ground. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
VILA TINTO – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Raced wide for the majority.
 
MISS DAURIAN – Underwent a pre-race check having raced at Rockhampton on Tuesday 14 May 2024 and was passed fit to start. Contacted by TEMPO (NZ) which shifted in. Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
RUPERT’S BOY – Shifted out on jumping. Held up rounding the home turn and only obtained clear running in the final 50 metres.
 
Race 6: CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES BURDEKIN CUP BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1830 M
 
KOTABHARU – Had to be restrained shortly after the start after JOE’S GIGGLE was taken out.
 
FOUR MILE LANE – Shifted out at the start and contacted JOE’S GIGGLE.
 
JOE’S GIGGLE – Taken out onto KOTABHARU after being contacted by FOUR MILE LANE on jumping; Had to be eased off the heels off EDIFICATION passing the winning post on the first occasion. Inclined to lay in over the concluding stages.
 
PROSPETTIVA (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
MISS FUBILCIOUS – Fractious in the barriers.
