QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT HUGHENDEN SATURDAY 6 MAY 2023 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – DIRT (Good). RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – D. GriffithsStewards – P WarrenClerk of Scales – StewardsJudge – A Wearing Veterinarian – Dr. L HarrimonStarter – C Rogers Scratchings: Race 1 – Forgotten Bow & Sanchez were both late scratching’s at the barriers. Race 1: QTIS Benchmark 55 Handicap 800 metres Sanchez refused to progress to the barriers and was declared at late scratching at 1.45 p.m. Bookmakers were instructed to draw a line on their ledgers. Sanchez further delayed the start when the mare could not be moved off the track for some time.Trainer M Lewis was advised that he will be required to trial Sanchez before the mare can again race. Deductions of 4 cents win and 5 cents the place on all bets were imposed. Forgotten Bow refused to load and was declared a late scratching at 1.53 p.m. . Bookmakers were instructed to draw a further line ontheir ledgers. Deductions of 39 cents win and 23 cents the place on all bets below the first line and above the second line were imposed. Trainer D Finter was advised that he will be required to obtain a further Barrier Certificate for Forgotten Bow before the mare can again race. Belleofthehunter – Jumped awkwardly hampering Craiglea Altona. Raced wide throughout. Craiglea Altona – Hampered by another runner on jumping. Became unbalanced at the 500 metres when racing on the rails and shifted out checking Rusty Rose. Rusty Rose – Checked at the 500 metres when another runner shifted ground and raced wide thereafter. Only Emma – Blundered at the 400 metres. Rugged Boy – Raced wide for the majority. Whitty’s Dream – Raced wide for the majority. Race 2: Maiden Plate 2YO & Up 1000m Nanna Bax – Apprentice S Nielson was permitted to ride the mare 1.0 kg overweight when no other rider was available. Copper City Dragon – First race start and was extremely fractious in the barriers. Lost ground mid race when placed under pressure. A Cheeky Gift – Lost ground at the 600 metres and apprentice R Wilson reported the filly had hit an uneven patch on the track and became unbalanced. Didn’t Ask Me – Raced wide for the majority. Orcus – Was fractious in the barriers and jumped awkwardly. Apprentice J Doolan sustained a left foot injury in this incident and was examined by the Ambulance Attendants and was given clearance to continue riding. Orcus raced wide for the majority. Freya’s Choice - Raced wide Pluckandclass – Raced wide. Race 3: Open Handicap 1000m American Genius – Jumped awkardly. Race 4: Benchmarks 65 Handicap 1000m We’ll Beat It – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground at the start. Cadence – Jockey D Sparks was reprimanded for failing to ride his mount out to the finish of the event AR. Stewards noted that although Cadence narrowly maintained 4th position , that Jockey Sparks had failed to ride the horse out to the line. (AR131 b). Lucky Machu – Shifted outwards sharply shortly after the barriers opened hampering Finesse Tess and Royal Sheen. Lucky Machu cast an off fore plate and two hind plates in running. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering foot soreness in the off fore leg and both hinds. The gelding was treated by the Club Veterinary Surgeon. A Veterinary certificate of fitness will be required before Lucky Machu can again race. Finesse Tess – Eased shortly after the start when another runner shifted out. Raced wide thereafter. Royal Sheen – Hampered shortly after the start.Finished in 5th position and ApprenticeJockey R Wilson was reprimanded for failing to ride her mount out to the finish of the event (AR131 b). Race 5: Benchmark 50 Handicap 1400m Flying Euros – Threw its head in the air when the gates opened and lost ground.
