QRIC STEWARDS REPORT INJUNE RACE CLUB INC. - SATURDAY, 10 JUNE 2017 WEATHER – FINE TRACK: GOOD-(DIRT) RAIL - TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – Mr T. Preston Stewards – Mr B. Cooke Betting Steward – Stewards Clerk of Scales – Club Judge – Club Veterinarian – Dr Tim McClymont (Roma Vet Hospital) Swab Attendant/s- Roma Vet HospitalStarter- Mr Matthew Bidgood Photo Finish Operator- Ms J Moody Prior to the running of Race 1 Stewards were advised by Trainer Mr B Johnson’s Representative Mr Dale Ward that his horse PETRIAS HEART was injured in transit and was a late scratching. The scratching was not reflected on the Racing Australia’s website. The information received from the Stable was accepted by Stewards and the horse was declared a late scratching at 12.30pm. As the betting on the race had commenced the following deductions did apply- Win- 0c, 7c the place,13c the place on the second placegetter and as there were insufficient runners in the event prior to the scratching, no third deduction was required. Stewards were advised by Apprentice Jockey Gregory Hayes that he had changed his riding weight earlier in the week and that he was able to claim only 1.5 kilograms of his allotted 4.0 kilogram claim in Race 1. Stewards accepted Apprentice Jockey Hayes explanation and took no further action in relation to this matter. SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT Race 1: ELDERS/ WILLIAMS HALL CHADWICK/ RABOBANK QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1000M CRUNCH TIME- made contact with the outside barrier on jumping. PRINCESS REAAN- was slow to begin. VOLTAGE MARINE-began awkwardly, the Mare failed to go the early speed and as a result was tailed off early. The horse appeared to resent the kickback and failed to make ground over the final stages of the event. Race 2: NAB AGRIBUSINESS/ INJUNE MITRE 10/ INJUNE CARAVAN PARK/ SENEX ENERGY HANDICAP BENCHMARK 60 1000M FRISKEY TERROR- began awkwardly and bled during the race. After speaking with Trainer Mr Ross Vagg, Stewards banned the horse from racing under AR.53A (4) for a period of three (3) months. The rider of NOVARUPTA Ms N. Morton reported to Stewards that her whip had broken over the final 150 metres of the event resulting in her not being able to ride the horse out as she would have liked..Race 3: LANDMARK ZOETIS PESTIGUARD BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1200M. No racing incidents during the race. Prior to the declaration of correct weight the rider of GRAND CHEVAL Ms C. Eaton advised Stewards she wanted to view the photo finish image in a view to determine if the Judge’s Decision of a dead heat being declared was correct. Ms Eaton was satisfied with the result and Stewards subsequently declared correct weight. Race 4: IOR PETROLEUM/ MOUNTS MACHINERY BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1400M ATEACES- travelled wide during the early stages of the event. During the final stages of the event the rider of the gelding B. Powell reported to Stewards that his whip had broken over the concluding stages of the event. Stewards spoke with Jockey B. Powell in relation to his conduct after the race where he expressed his disappointment with expletive language in full view of the general public. Under AR 175 AA Stewards advised Jockey Powell of his obligations to ensure he upholds the interests of racing at all times and that such behaviour from a senior rider would not be tolerated. Stewards took no further action in relation to this matter. Race 5: 2017 SANTOS GLNG INJUNE CUP OPEN HANDICAP 1400M At the conclusion of the previous race Jockey J. Powell had broken his whip. He later advised Stewards that despite all attempts to locate one, he had failed to find a replacement. Trainer W. Baker expressed his disappointment and advised Stewards he would need to speak with the connections to ascertain if they wanted the horse to run. Stewards advised Bookmakers to cease betting on the event until confirmation was attained that REPO ZEST would take his place in the field. Trainer Mr W Baker advised Stewards that connections of REPO ZEST were happy to run the horse without the rider having the use of a whip during this event. Jockey B. Powell did give Stewards an undertaking he would ride the horse as vigorously as he could without a whip. Stewards advised the bookmakers that REPO ZEST would run in the forthcoming event.
