GENERAL

Jockey Ms. C Jokic was unable to attend today’s race meeting after being injured in a race fall at Townsville on Thursday 24th May, 2018. Replacement Jockeys were engaged as per Stewards Race Day Summary.

Stewards intend to inquire at a later date into the reasons why SUNNY SAILOR (App. Ms. A Thomson) fell on pulling up after taking part in a barrier trial following the conclusion of today’s race meeting. Ms. Thomson was attended by on-course Paramedics prior to being transported to Innisfail Hospital for further assessment.

Race 2: IN ELECTRICS 2018 RACE TO THE REEF OPEN HANDICAP – HEAT 1000m

ARKIBOUM – Slowly away. Raced wide for the majority.

GREEN ANCHOR – Attempted to buck passing the 900m and took no further competitive part in the event from that point. Trainer’s Representative Mr. R Ryan was advised that the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily before again being permitted to start in a race.

MINNIE STREET – App. Ms. R Shred reported that the mare was inclined to lay in for the majority placing her at a disadvantage. Trainer Mr. T Rowe was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s racing manners.

ONE BAR NONE – Appeared to change stride soon after the winning post causing Jockey Ms. B Thomson. who became unbalanced, to be dislodged soon after. Ms. Thomson’ who was attended by on-course Paramedics, declared herself fit to fulfil her remaining engagements. Stewards, who were satisfied that ONE BAR NONE had carried its allotted impost, acting under the provisions of AR142, declared Correct Weight on the semaphored numbers.

Stewards inquired into an incident near the 800m which resulted in NEVETUS (App. Ms. A Thomson) being checked and losing ground. After hearing evidence from App. Thomson and Ms. B Thomson who rode ONE BAR NONE and viewing the available footage it was established that ONE BAR NONE which was racing ungenerously at the time had shifted in and away from MINNIE STREET (App. Ms. R Shred) which was inclined to lay in resulting in tightening to the running of NEVETUS. As Stewards were of the opinion that no individual Jockey could be held to account for the incident no further action was taken.

Following the running of this race, due to further showers, Stewards after conducting a further track inspection and conferring with Jockeys, deemed the track suitable and safe for racing, and in doing so downgraded the track rating to a Heavy 9.

Race 3: GOONDI SCOUTS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1100m

IMPERIAL BELLE – Was inclined to hang in in the early stages.

Jockey D Edmonds pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used the whip on WILL HE TORQUE in an excessive manner prior to the 100m (on 13 occasions, including several consecutive). Jockey Edmonds’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days to commence at midnight Saturday 26th May, 2018 up to and including midnight Tuesday 5th June, 2018.
