GENERAL
Following a report from the QRIC IIT division this morning Stewards opened an inquiry into suspicious activity at the on-course stabling of licensed Trainer Mr. G Strickland. After hearing initial evidence from Mr. Strickland, licensed Stablehand  Mr. G Pepper and owner Mr. D Zahmel Stewards acting under the provisions of AR8(m) ordered the late  withdrawal of the thoroughbreds REDWISKA, OAKFIELD AVENGER and CASHED UP BULLY at 12:00pm from their respective engagements at today’s race meeting. Swab samples obtained from all 3 thoroughbreds will be sent to the Racing Science Centre for analysis and the inquiry was adjourned to a date and time to be advised.
 
 
Race 1: CUMIC STEEL RATINGS BAND 0-65 HANDICAP 1000m
 
KENNYNOPAS – Slowly into stride after being tightened between runners on jumping.
 
TESTATIME – Unable to muster pace in the early stages.
 
ROAD FOX – Inclined to overrace in the middle stages.
 
THE FLASH ONE – Inclined to hang out in the middle stages. Shifted off fore plate in running.
 
 
Race 2: BROTHERS LEAGUE CLUB QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1100m
 
SUNNY SAILOR – Slowly away after being tightened for room shortly after the start.
 
LITTLE GUN – Shifted in abruptly on jumping, tightening runners to its inside. Apprentice S.Gittos pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR.137(a) in that near the 500m, he permitted his mount to shift in, taking LAPELS (Jockey S.Kaya) in onto the running of MISS CELITA (App. Ms. A. Thomson) which was severely checked. Apprentice S.Gittos license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence at midnight 20th  October 2018 to expire midnight 28th October 2018. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account Apprentice Gittos’ relative inexperience, his forthright evidence and his guilty plea. Apprentice Gittos was also reprimanded under the provisions of AR.137A for excessive whip use prior to the 100m.
 
GOLYNDA - Hampered by another runner which shifted in on jumping.
 
ROTHSAY MAGIC – Slowly away after being hampered by another runner which shifted in on jumping. Raced ungenerously throughout.  Trainer Mr G. Tsakissiris was advised a warning would be placed on the mares racing manners.
 
LAPELS – Had to be restrained when taken in near the 500m by another runner. Jockey S.Kaya was fined $200 under the provisions of AR.137A for excessive whip use prior to the 100m.
 
MISS CELITA – Was severely checked near the 500m.
 
UPTOWN TOFF – Raced wide for the majority.
 
OCTOBER STORM – Raced greenly throughout. Blundered near the 600m when in clear running. Trainer Ms. J.Ball was advised that a warning would be placed on the geldings’ racing manners.
 
 
Race 3: SPAR INNISFAIL/COLS VINYL CLASS B HANDICAP 1200m
 
MISS DONATELLA – Was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 2.38pm when found to be lame in the near hind leg during its preliminary. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies wagered on MISS DONATELLA be refunded in full and further that deductions of 2 cents in the dollar win
3 cents in the dollar place on the face value of the betting ticket be applicable. Trainer Mr K. Mearns was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the mare again being permitted to start in a race.
 
FLAMIN’ SID – Was restrained off heels near the 600m. Was disappointed for a run on two occasions in the home straight.
 
GALA TICKETS - Was inclined to shift ground under pressure in the home straight hampering another runner on two occasions. Jockey S.Pawsey was reprimanded under the provisions of AR.137(a) for careless riding. Jockey Pawsey was also fined for the sum of $100 under provisions of AR.137A for excessive whip use prior to the 100m.
 
EVERY FRIDAY – Shifted out under pressure near the 200m.

ARNHEM BEAUTY – Raced wide for the majority.

HAND OF FAITH – Raced wide for the majority. Was inclined to lay out under pressure down the running.


 
Race 4: CANADIAN CLUB JOHNSTONE RIVER OPEN HANDICAP 1200m
 
MAN AROUND TOWN – Was slowly into stride. Raced wide for the majority.

LUSHAN – Slowly into stride. Was held up for clear running passing the 200m

CRAIGLEA ALDI – Raced wide for the majority.

TURN UP THE VOLUME – Raced wide for the majority.


Race 5: CAIRNS HARDWARDE TRAINERS CUP BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1500m
 
AESOP – Slowly away.
 
HOT TOP – Shifted in near the 1200m hampering another runner. Apprentice Ms A.Thomson was reprimanded under the provisions of AR.137(a) for careless riding. Stewards also reminded App. Thomson of her obligation to ride her mount out to the finish of the race.
 
COUTAINVILLE – Had to be restrained near the 1200m to avoid the heels of another runner which shifted in. Commenced to over race soon after, hanging in and blundering near the 1100m.

SHOT OF COURAGE – Had to be restrained near the 1100m to avoid the heels of another runner which blundered. Raced ungenerously for some distance thereafter.
 
 
Race 6: CORAL COAST FINANCIAL COUNTRY CUPS CHALL. QUAL/INNISFAIL CUP OPEN HANDICAP 2000m
 
HOT SAGA – Began awkwardly.

DAZZLING PRIDE – Shifted out abruptly soon after the start, hampering another runner.
 
HOW CAN I HELP – Hampered by another runner soon after the start. Raced wide in the middle stages.

ROYAL SUPREME – Raced wide in the middle stages.

JIMMY HOFFA – Raced wide in the middle stages.

RAMSDEN STREET – Raced wide without cover for the majority.

TRY ME DOL – Raced wide for the majority. A  post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
