Race 1: PHILLIPS ACCOUNTANTS QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 900 metres
 
RIVERSIDE BLUES - Began awkwardly.
 
BOONA BOY - On return to scale Jockey G Kliese advised that his mount was inclined to shift ground when pressured for an effort over the concluding stages when racing between runners.
 
THE BLOCK – The gelding which was resuming following a lengthy absence from racing underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping with another runner.
 
LA FURIOSO - Bumped by another runner on jumping.
 
GRACEFUL JEN - Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly inconveniencing runners to its outside. Jockey B Thomson reported the filly had hung out for the majority of the event. Trainer A Malliff was advised the filly would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
BOLD ARCHER - After being slowly away was obliged to restrain shortly after to avoid being tightened between runners which shifted ground. Raced wide throughout.
 
COLLOMBATTI - Began awkwardly and shifted in inconveniencing runners to its inside.
 
SANCY ROSE - Race greenly in the home straight.
 
ABBY’S DRAGON - Shifted out on jumping inconveniencing another runner. Inclined to race greenly when pressured down the running.
 
BETTER THAN THAT - Raced greenly throughout. Raced wide throughout.
 
Following the running of this event the track rating was upgraded to a Firm 2.
 
 
 
Race 2: NULEAF Maiden Plate 1500 metre
 
AMELIA’S RAINBOW - As Jockey R Wiggins was unable to make the allotted weight Jockey S Wilson was substituted as the rider of the mare. Jockey Wiggins was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR190(3). Shifted in and bumped with another runner on jumping. Raced ungenerously throughout the middle stages.
 
GOOD AS A ROCKET - Slow to begin.
 
BON RUBY - Shifted out and bumped with another runner on jumping.
 
RICH PRINCESS - Bumped by another runner which shifted out to obtain clear running approaching the 200m. Raced wide the majority.
 
MCKENZIE WILL DO - Shifted out in jumping tightening another runner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery rate.
 
BULLSWOOL - Buffeted between runners on jumping.
 
JABAL TARIQ - Shifted in and bumped with another runner on jumping.
 
NALSSENDORI - Approaching the 200m, shifted out to obtain clear running and bumped with another runner.
 
Stewards inquired into an incident approaching the 1300m where SOUL SEARCHER (W D’Avila) was checked. After taking the evidence from the riders involved and viewing the official patrol footage it was determined that BRANDS HATCH (N Day) when being ridden in an effort to obtain the lead, shifted in marginally tightening SOUL SEARCHER, which was racing greenly at the time, causing that runner to be checked. As Stewards were of the opinion that the racing manners of SOUL SEARCHER had been a contributing factor to the incident no action was taken other than to advise the riders involved to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
 
 
Race 3: RED ROOSTER RAINTREES Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres
 
STYLE LINE - Slow to begin.
 
CARPE NOCTEM - Raced wide throughout.
 
WHITTERICK - Raced wide throughout.
 
RED DENARO - Bumped by another runner which shifted in on jumping.
 
PAST READY - Shifted in on jumping and bumped with another runner.
 
LINNET MOON - Obliged to restrain when crossed by another runner approaching the 200m.
 
LASSITER’S LODE - Shifted out approaching the 200m causing LINNET MOON to be restrained. Jockey R Wiggins was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident.
 
 
 
Race 4: TELESAT SERVICES Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres
 
CADENCE - Commenced to race keenly after being crossed by another runner approaching the 900m.
 
NICE RETORT - Inclined to lay out under pressure down the running inconveniencing another runner approaching the 200m.
 
CINDERELLA ROSE - Slowly away after beginning awkwardly.
 
PHILANTHROPIST - Obliged to ease momentarily and shift out when a runner to its inside commence to lay out under pressure passing the 200m.
 
MIKEYS TURF - Hung out from the 900m. Trainer S Potiris was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners. Raced wide throughout. Settled further forward than expected. Jockey C Jokic advised that her instructions had been to settle midfield with cover but after beginning on terms with the field was unable to obtain cover and elected to let her mount stride forward preferring to be wide and forward than racing wide in a rearward position. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
DOUBLE DENMAN- Raced wide throughout.
 
KENSINGTON GOLD- App K Swaffer dropped her whip passing the 250m.
 
CLEAR THE BILL- Raced awkwardly rounding the 800m turn. Inclined to shift in under pressure down the running.
 
HIGHLAND SKIPPER- Slow to begin.
 
 
 
Race 5: CORAL COAST CATERING BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metres
 
DEVIL’S LAIR - The gelding which was resuming following a lengthy absence from racing underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
BOLD KINGSTON - Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers and was passed fit to start.
 
CASH RAIDER - Obliged to steady on several occasions approaching the 900m turn when racing in restricted room. Jockey N Day advised that when asked for an effort on entering the home straight his mount was slow to respond to his urgings. Stewards noted the explanation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
EL OF A SAGA - Commenced to over-race approaching the 900m and shifted in marginally.
 
TAWIRI - Bumped with another runner on jumping.
 
HOT SHOT HARRY - Bumped with another runner on jumping. Commenced to race awkwardly approaching the 800m and shifted out taking YALANJI (App R Shred) wider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in both forelegs. Trainer Mr S Cooper was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding again being permitted to start in a race.
 
SPEED EIGHT - Raced wide throughout.
 
AKILEOS - Shifted out abruptly on jumping and blundered soon after. Raced wide the majority. On returning to scale Jockey S Sheargold advised that he had injured his left foot when exiting the barrier. Jockey Sheargold did not require medical attention.
 
 
 
Race 6: CORAL COAST SHIELD QUALIFIER BENCHMARK 69 (FILLIES & MARES) Handicap 1500 metres
 
Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey B Thomson, rider of 3rd placed VOLTAIC, to view the photo finish. After viewing the official photo Jockey Thomson was satisfied with the result. Declaration of correct weight was further delayed to allow App E Cass, rider of 5th placed OUR CHIQUILLA, to view the patrol footage to ascertain whether there was ground for an objection siting alleged interference over the concluding stages. After viewing the official patrol footage App Cass elected not to proceed with any objection. Correct weight was then declared on the judges semaphored numbers.
 
MISS DEFIANCE - Slow to begin.
 
OUR CHIQUILLA - Raced wide throughout.
 
VAN GAAL - Raced wide throughout.
 
CANDY GIRL - Lost ground when obliged to restrain whilst racing in restricted room passing the 1300m.
 
SHE’S NIC’N OFF - Obliged to steady off the heels of another runner rounding the home turn. Shifted in under pressure approaching the winning post, bumping with OUR CHIQUILLA (App E Cass) causing that runner to be steadied to avoid the heels of another runner. Jockey S Wilson was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident.  
 

 
Race 7: CORAL COAST SHIELD QUALIFIER/CAPE YORK CUP OPEN Handicap 1500 metres
 
TAMBO’S HEART - Shifted out on jumping and bumped with another runner.
 
SALESMAN – Inconvenienced on jumping. App K Swaffer became unbalanced and was nearly dislodged when the saddle slipped approaching the 200m, resulting in the gelding shifting out and inconveniencing BUXTON (G Kliese), and BUSTER BLOCK (S Sheargold).
 
BUXTON - Bumped by another runner which shifted out soon after jumping.
 
POLAR BLAST - Inclined to over-race in the early stages when caught wide. A post-race veterinary examination no abnormalities.
 
NOTIO - Inclined to over-race in the middle stages. Had to be steadied approaching the winning post to avoid improving onto the heels of TAMBO’S HEART.
 
ROCK SPUR - Near the 800m when racing tight to the inside of runners made heavy contact with the inside running rail and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a superficial wound to the off shoulder.
 
 
 
Race 8: CORAL COAST SHIELD QUALIFIER OPEN Handicap 900 metres
 
Stewards permitted the late scratching’s of DESERT COWBOY and LITTLE STRYKER at 12:52pm and 1:31pm respectively, subsequent to the track being upgraded into the Firm range at 12:50pm.
 
WIDMILL LANE – Jockey M Abe reported the gelding had never travelled comfortably on today’s firm going. Trainer Mr R Ludwig advised the gelding would be turned out for an immediate spell.
 
DANCING DIVA - Became fractious in the barriers as the start was effected and lost ground as a result. Trainer Mr B Hunter was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s barrier manners.
 
DISTRICT - Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
SIR ROLAND – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained an abrasion to the near hind leg consistent with having been galloped on in running.
 
 
 
Race 9: TOTALLY WORKWEAR CAIRNS Class 2 Handicap 900 metres
 
A LITTLE BIT MORE - Connections advised that, should circumstance permit, the mare would be ridden more positively than in its recent starts. After beginning on terms with the field was unable to muster the early speed required to achieve the desired position and consequently settled further back than expected.
 
COOL ATTITUDE - Knuckled on jumping away.
 
SHE BEATS THE BEST - Slow to begin. Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer K Allender was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s competitiveness.
 
THE FRONTIER - Settled further back than expected. Performed disappointingly on face value. App E Cass advised that her intention had been to lead but after beginning only fairly the gelding failed to muster the necessary speed required to obtain the lead and consequently raced wide throughout. App Cass added that when the gelding was unable to obtain the lead despite her continued urgings. Trainer F Wieland verified the instructions and stated the early fast pace and the wide barrier were telling in today’s event. Stewards noted the explanations. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
THE SWELL - Obliged to restrain passing the 800m when racing in restricted room.
