WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - DEAD/GOOD AFTER R.5 RAIL - 3M. 900- 290/C/WAY TO A1
GENERAL: As J. Byrne was indisposed, the following riding replacements were approved: Race 1. QUEEN BODICEA - N. Jolly; Race 2. EASTER MALIA - M. Cahill; Race 3. ASTRAL JOIE - V. Colgan; Race 7. IRISH PILGRIM - M. Cahill.

Trainer M. Nolan was fined $50 for failing to ensure that the Sample and Security Card was signed following the swab of LORRIE’S LOTTERY.
RACE 1: BURMAR PLUMBING PLUS STRATHPINE H’CAP - 1100M.
SHE’S A HUMMER was slow to begin.
MADAME CHINOIS jumped away awkwardly, hampering SHE’S A HUMMER.
QUEEN BODICEA began awkwardly and shifted out, forcing ON TIP TOES out on to BEYONDA, which in turn shifted out making contact with APPEALING LADY.
WHAT’S THE BEEF blundered near the 800m..
After leaving the 700m., BEYONDA, whilst overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of CHARSKI, which shifted out, hampering SEPARATE.
RACE 2: K. & R. PLUMBING PLUS BOWEN HILLS H’CAP - 1200M.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by M. Lister, rider of the 5th placegetter, HANDSOME CREOLE, against HOW HIGH SIR and IRISH CONNECTION being declared the 3rd and 4th placegetters respectively, alleging interference near the 50m.. After hearing evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the film, stewards found that whilst HANDSOME CREOLE had sustained interference approaching the finish line, the margins between the relevant horses at the finish did not warrant a reversal of placings, and therefore the protests were dismissed and Judge’s placings confirmed. At a subsequent inquiry, S. Katsidis, rider of HOW HIGH SIR, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the finish line, contributing to interference being suffered by HANDSOME CREOLE. S. Katsidis was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 8 May, and to expire at midnight, 22 May 1999.
S. Nolan, rider of IRISH CONNECTION, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift out near the finish line, thereby contributing to interference suffered by HANDSOME CREOLE. S. Nolan was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 12 May, and to expire at midnight, 26 May 1999.
ROKEBY TERRACE reared and lost ground at the start.
EXPIYALLAHDOSHUS and DAWN LANDING were all slow to begin.
STYLISH ASCOT jumped outwards and hampered BENGAL RASCAL at the start.
YALLAH’S GIFT, which jumped away awkwardly, lost ground and was inclined to race ungenerously throughout running.
P. Wolfgram, rider of INDIAN EXPRESS, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in approaching the 800m., which resulted BENGAL RASCAL being hampered and EXPIYALLAHDOSHUS being checked. P. Wolfgram was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 9 May, and to expire at midnight, 23 May 1999.
Near the 500m., BENGAL RASCAL had to be steadied off the heels of KIRKDALE ROAD.
HOW HIGH SIR made the home turn awkwardly.
Rounding the home turn, KING BAY was inclined to hang out and approaching the 200m.. J. Piper was obliged to stop riding and straighten that gelding. KING BAY hung out over the concluding stages of the race.
The club’s farrier reported that HOW HIGH SIR was found to have twisted its near fore plate in running.
RACE 3: SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H’CAP - 1500M.
DARIUS jumped away awkwardly and brushed MANINGRIDA.
BORRACHERA was slow to begin.
Rounding the first turn, DARIUS was inclined to pull hard and had to be steadied off the heels of EMERALD CLOVER and shifted out.
CELEDSTRE was also inclined to pull hard rounding the first turn.
When tiring, PLACIDA was hampered between BASTEE BERSATU and ASTRAL JOIE on straightening when both horses shifted ground momentarily.
RACE 4: K. & R. PLUMBING PLUS TOOWOOMBA H’CAP - 2150M.
After leaving the 500m., BLOOD NUT shifted in and made contact with UMANIQUE.
RACE 5: BURMAR PLUMBING PLUS SUMMER PARK H’CAP - 1666M.
C.Maund was fined $50 for claiming of .5 kg of his 1.5 kg allowance on BRONZE ERA.
After leaving the 600m., MORINGA’S PRINCE had to be eased away from the heels of the tiring PRINCE OF ALMS.
Stewards questioned C. Reith and trainer P. Duff concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of PRINCE OF ALMS, which commenced to compound after leaving the 800m... Both parties were at a loss to explain the disappointing performance, however trainer P. Duff explained that the horse is a gross doer and may be taking longer to come to hand this preparation. Stewards ordered a veterinary examination of PRINCE OF ALMS and the surgeon reported at the time of examination the horse was distressed. Trainer P. Duff was instructed to inform the stewards of anything that may come to his notice subsequent to the race which may have had any effect on the disappointing performance of PRINCE OF ALMS.
The track rating was upgraded from dead to good (2.52 p.m.) following this event.
RACE 6: K. & R. PLUMBING PLUS GEEBUNG H’CAP - 1100M.
LANZA was slow to begin.
UNCLE HARVE was inclined to race fiercely in the middle stages.
RACE 7: K. & R. PLUMBING PLUS IPSWICH H’CAP - 1350M.
Near the 800m., ANCIENT ROAD got its head up and raced ungenerously. Jockey T. Phillips reported on return to scale that ANCIENT ROAD may have got its tongue over the bit.
Approaching the home turn, CHEIRON hung out and made contact with MIGHTY MCCOOL. When being straightened, CHEIRON shifted back towards the rails, which resulted in TURF KING being momentarily tightened for room.
RACE 8: BURMAR PLUMBING PLUS COORPAROO H’CAP - 1000M.
BENGAL KING and PAY THE GOLD were tightened for room at the start between STARTWIST and MOW DOWN, which jumped away awkwardly.
FLASH MUSIC blundered at the start.
Stewards ordered a veterinary examination of POETIC JOKER, which compounded and finished some distance from the bulk of the field. The surgeon reported that POETIC JOKER had pulled up in a mildly distressed condition.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
