WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 1M. ALL TRACK


GENERAL: The following riders were indisposed and replaced as follows: G. COLLESS - Race 1. TANNER'S TWIST - M. Pelling; Race 3. MARIACHI - N. Day; Race 8. DRAGONVILLE - S. Shield. M. PRIVATO - Race 4. EL CARGO - G. Duffy. A. RABY - Race 4. SALWAY JEWEL - S. Katsidis; Race 7. CROMARTY FIRTH - D. Green.

Trainer J. Wright was reported that PROUD MOMENTS was found to be sore in the near fore fetlock after competing at the above meeting.


RACE 1: YALUMBA WINES H'CAP - 1100M.

Passing the 600m., TANNER'S TWIST shifted out, forcing FAIR PAY wider on the track.

PLAUSIBLE shifted out on the home turn, again forcing FAIR PAY wider.

FLASH TUNE hung out making the home turn and continued to shift ground despite the efforts of its rider, and on several occasions made contact with TANNER'S TWIST in the straight. Trainer's representative Mr P. Dawson was advised that a final warning was being placed on FLASH TUNE in relation to its racing manners.


RACE 2: CHUBB SECURITY SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1000M.

FACETS shifted out on jumping away, taking EN BATEUA out on to AQUATAI, which in turn was taken out on to the hind quarters of LIFE 'N' TIMES, resulting in AQUATAI having to be checked.


RACE 3: XXXX H'CAP - 1666M.

Trainer P. Duff was fined $25 for presenting AUGUST SUPREME without the approved gear.

Approaching the 200m., S. Seamer, rider of EUCHRE LADY, accidentally struck the hand of J. Pollard, rider of LORD PUISSANCE, with his whip, resulting in J. Pollard dropping his whip.

JASHAUN was held up for clear running approaching the home turn.

MARIACHI returned to the enclosure with blood in its near nostril. Trainer I. Long reported that MARIACHI had previously bled in the near nostril and had been scoped on several occasions, identifying a small polyp in that nostril, which at times burst.

When questioned, D. Walsh stated that after jumping away awkwardly, LAUNCESTON then travelled well to the 600m. however failed to respond to his riding from that point, and in his opinion the gelding may not have backed up after competing at Toowoomba on Saturday, 4 March.



RACE 4: EYELINER LOUNGE H'CAP - 1000M.

SALWAY JEWEL was a late scratching at 11.10 a.m. when a veterinary examination of the mare revealed severe swelling to the near-side fetlock.

TOPEEM jumped away awkwardly.

ZOOMSTER jumped and blundered, almost dislodging M. Pelling. In this incident, M. Pelling lost the use of his near-side iron until near the 800m..

Approaching the 700m., ZOOMSTER had to be steadied when tightened for room by TREBLE SWITCH, which shifted in slightly.


RACE 5: STAFFORD STREET HARDWARE H'CAP - 2150M.

Trainer D.Newham was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for VON BISMARK by the required time.

No racing incidents.


RACE 6: SKY CHANNEL H'CAP - 1500M.

Shortly after the start, SUBTLE GIFT was hampered when tightened for room between SONGYE and MILLAIS.

Approaching the 1400m., when being steadied off the heels of OUTRANK, MIGHTY EEL got its head up and raced ungenerously.

Near the 200m., LET'S GO NATIVE, which had been held up for a run, was further inconvenienced by OUTRANK, which shifted out to improve.

At the 150m., SONGYE shifted out and brushed POINTILLISM.

Near the 50m., OUTRANK shifted in under pressure, obliging its rider to straighten that gelding.

B. Stewart, rider of LET'S GO NATIVE, was fined $200 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram over his declared weight.


RACE 7: BORAL CONCRETE H'CAP - 1200M.

CLEISH jumped away and shifted out, making contact with CROMARTY FIRTH.

G. Duffy was questioned as to the tactics he adopted on MILLENNIUM BELLE. He stated that he had been instructed to ride the filly forward by trainer K. Smith, however after missing the start by a length, he rode his mount towards the lead, however was forced to race 3 wide approaching the 800m. turn where he then endeavoured to settle the filly and find cover. However, as that was not possible he rode MILLENNIUM BELLE forward to get closer to the leader, CLEISH, and to put ST. COLUMBANS in a pocket. After entering the straight, MILLENIUM BELLE was under pressure and shifted out and made contact with HARD BID and became unbalanced. The explanation was noted.


RACE 8: HOMESTYE BAKERIES H'CAP - 1350M.

CREATIONS and COOL DRIVE were both hampered on jumping away when tightened for room between PRETTY CLEAR and LAMBADA QUEEN.

After leaving the 800m., DRAGONVILLE shifted out, and approaching the 700m. continued to shift out and had to be checked off the heels of WESTMINSTER ABBEY.

COOL DRIVE hung out making the home turn, forcing JUST KITTY and BELLE JUDY wider on the track and enabling CREATIONS to obtain a run to its inside.

CARERA had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.

After entering the straight, JUST KITTY had to be checked when racing between BELLE JUDY and COOL DRIVE, which at this stage continued to hang out. S. Katsidis, rider of JUST KITTY, explained his mount was also hanging out and that was the major reason for his mount being checked off the heels of BELLE JUDY.

S. Seamer reported that the filly ROMANCER was awkward in its actions when placed under pressure after leaving the 400m. as a result he eased the filly out of the event. A veterinary examination of ROMANCER failed to reveal any abnormality. Trainer B. Guy will be advised that a full veterinary clearance would be required for the filly, including the results of an endoscopic examination prior to its next race start.
