IPSWICH TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT WED. 22.11.00

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr J Hackett (Chairman), Mr T Bailey, Mr C Clifford, Mr D Aurisch, Mr R Sanders.

WEATHER –OVERCAST TRACK -SLOW RAIL - OUT 2M ALL TRACK

GENERAL: As G Colless was indisposed, stewards approved the following riding replacements:

RACE 1: IPSWICH INDOOR CRICKET SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1000M

CAPTAIN CENTREFOLD was slow to jump.

LADY DENRENA attempted to buck shortly after the start. A warning was placed on this filly concerning its barrier manners.

After leaving the 500m GOD'S LITTLE RIPA commenced to race ungenerously and hung out making the home turn. A veterinary examination of GOD'S LITTLE RIPA failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer L Ross was informed that the horse would be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial before being permitted to race.

GUMTREE had a tendency to lay in in the straight.

J Byrne reported that GUMTREE was not comfortable on the slow track.

RACE 2: DONNA DALBY INDOOR CRICKET WORLD CHAMPION H'CAP - 1350M

Trainer K Andersson was fined $50 for failing to notify blinkers on DEBBIE'S PRIDE.

STYLISH VEE, which was kicked in the off hind leg at the barriers, was a late scratching at 1.02 p.m. following advice from the Club's veterinary surgeon that the horse was not fit to race. Following the late withdrawal of STYLISH VEE, all monies invested on the filly were ordered to be refunded in full and deductions were made in accordance with the Racing and Betting Act, i.e. 11 cents in the dollar on the face value of win tickets and 11 cents in the dollar on the face value of place tickets.

MIDNIGHT WARRIOR and DEBBIE'S PRIDE jumped away awkwardly.

COUNT ON THE GAFF was slow to begin.

Approaching the 800m DEBBIE'S PRIDE had to be restrained off the heels of IDLE SQUAW.


Near the 100m SEA BABY was tightened between LADY SALLANCE and IDLE SQUAW which shifted in under pressure.

RACE 3: IPSWICH INDOOR NETBALL H'CAP - 1200M

SPLENDENT MISSILE jumped away awkwardly.

GANGSTER and MINER'S UNION were slow to jump.

As the pace slackened rounding the first turn, SPLENDENT MISSILE commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of ALL IN AWE. TOP VALI, which was trailing SPLENDENT MISSILE, also had to be restrained to avoid heels.

MINER'S UNION was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.

On entering the straight SPLENDENT MISSILE attempted to shift out to improve and made contact with CARBRECEL which maintained its position.

TOP VALI sprung its off hind shoe in running.

RACE 4: ROY SHEPHERD ASHBY HAPPY BIRTHDAY H'CAP - 1200M

JAY ELL was slow to jump.

Apprentice R Pittman, the rider of TURF SWANK, was suspended for 7 meetings for riding in a careless manner by permitting his mount to shift in near the 1000m causing SHINING BUCCANEER and GORILLA'S GALORE to be checked and DANGEROUS FORTUNE having to be steadied off the heels of GORILLA'S GALORE.

Approaching the 900m DAME LOTTIE had to be checked when racing inside JUST A KNIGHT and DUEL WITH ME due to being taken in by TURF SWANK. R Pittman, the rider of TURF SWANK, was severely reprimanded for failing to allow sufficient clearance when crossing. A short distance after this incident MORE DRAMA shifted in which resulted in DUEL WITH ME, JUST AT KNIGHT and DAME LOTTIE being inconvenienced. N Jolly was also reprimanded and reminded to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Stewards questioned M Pelling and trainer H Davis concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of DUEL WITH ME which did not finish the race off as expected. M Pelling reported that the filly had travelled well in the early stages, however despite being momentarily held up approaching the home turn it did not finish the race off as expected and appeared on face value to be disappointing. Trainer H Davis agreed that the run was disappointing and indicated he would recommend to connections that DUEL WITH ME be spelled. A veterinary examination of DUEL WITH ME revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken from the filly.

RACE 5: ANTHONY BREEZE HAPPY BIRTHDAY H'CAP - 1100M

MR. ORBIT was slow to jump.

LEAVITA jumped outwards at the start, taking COUNT RUSH out on to TIMBUMBURI.

M Pelling, the rider of IVOR'S GOLD, was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 1000m causing TONTORE to be tightened.

MR. ORBIT was held up for clear running rounding the home turn, and on entering the straight had to be eased away from the heels of the tiring IVOR'S GOLD.

Approaching the 200m WESTMINSTER ABBEY shifted in causing TONTORE to be inconvenienced.

Following the disappointing performance of IVOR'S GOLD, a veterinary examination was ordered on the horse and the veterinary surgeon reported that IVOR'S GOLD was lame in the off-side foreleg. A veterinary certificate of fitness will be required before IVOR'S GOLD races again.

RACE 6: ROS WINKS AUSTRALIAN NETBALL H'CAP - 1100M

As D Wheeler was injured, M Rodd was substituted as the rider of TIMELY MAGIC.

LIGHTAS jumped away awkwardly.

A short distance after the start HIDDEN CAMERA was tightened between TIMELY MAGIC and DENYM LASS.

Near the 600m SECRET HEART had to be eased off the heels of CAMALEIS.

For some distance rounding the home turn LIGHTAS was held up for clear running.

DENYM LASS could not obtain clear running in the straight.

ERINTEL shifted in abruptly when struck with the whip near the finishing line.


RACE 7: KERRY FRANKLIN JUNIOR NETBALL H'CAP - 1000M

ANY LUTE jumped away awkwardly and made contact with BASTEE BERSATU.

J Byrne, the rider of DANCE IN THE DARK, was suspended for 7 meetings for riding in a careless manner by permitting his mount to shift in near the 700m resulting in SHOW DEFIANCE being taken on to the heels of ANY LUTE and being checked. A short distance after this incident BASTEE BERSATU had to be steadied off the heels of SHOW DEFIANCE.

RACE 8: M A KENT & ASSOCIATES H'CAP - 1500M

BULL POWER was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon prior to the start and found suitable to race.

MIDNIGHT DEAL was tightened between GRAZIN' FASHION and ABDULLA ABDU at the start.

Approaching the 900m ABDULLA ABDU shifted out and made contact with SERENE ELEGANCE.

Approaching the 500m PRINCE RATAVA shifted out when leading and made contact with BULL POWER, which shifted out on to ABDULLA ABDU.

ALL WINNERS AND DUEL WITH ME WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
