WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - OUT 6M. ALL TRACK
RACE 1:GREG HEYES H'CAP - 1000M.
After jumping away awkwardly, BLONDE SPIRIT was hampered shortly after the start by HOLDAY FUN, which shifted in.
SAHARA SUZY jumped outwards at the start, forcing MERLOOM out on to the hind quarters of BUCKLERS HARD.
YUKMARR jumped away awkwardly.
After travelling a short distance, BLONDE SPIRIT shifted in and momentarily hampered CATCHCRY.
When shifting out to improve near the 400m., BLONDE SPIRIT momentarily made contact with MERLOOM.
RACE 2: COL & VICKI PAINE H'CAP - 1000M.
COURTLY TRUMP was slow to begin.
SQUAWABLE was tightened for room at the start between PETALT and PROUD LIGHT when both horses shifted ground.
A short distance after the start, TODWANA STAR shifted out and tightened SOCIETY SIREN, forcing that horse on to the hind quarters of VATALIA.
At the 700m., TODWANA STAR again shifted out and made contact with VATALIA, forcing that horse across the heels of IMPERIAL HEART and being checked.
Near the home turn, TODWANA STAR commenced to yield ground and PROUD LIGHT, which was following, had to be checked to avoid the heels of TODWANA STAR. Following the racing manners of TODWANA STAR, connections were informed that a warning would be recorded against the horse.
GO CREOLE, which performed poorly and finished a considerable distance from the remainder of the field, was declared ineligible to race until it trials to the satisfaction of the stewards.
RACE 3: GORDY SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1000M.
LITTLE RUMBO, SHEER FRIGHT and CELESTIAL'S GOLD were all slow to begin.
EXSULTARE jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 400m., BENTINCK, when under pressure, was tightened for room between LITTLE RUMBO and CELESTIAL'S GOLD, which when racing greenly was briefly tightened by GLACIES, when that horse shifted out to improve.
SOUTHEAST SHEILA hung off making the home turn.
Near the 200m., EXSULTARE, which had a tendency to lay in, had to be eased to avoid the heels of SOUTHEAST SHEILA, which shifted out slightly.
RACE 4: DOUBLE ISLAND GIFT H'CAP - 1500M.
S. Katsidis was a late replacement rider for KOHINOOR BLUE when N. Jolly advised stewards he had not recovered from injuries received after falling from a horse at the Gold Coast on 16 December.
QUARRY HAWK, which jumped away awkwardly, lost considerable ground at the start.
After losing ground, QUARRY HAWK was then sent forward by its rider and was obliged to race wide for the remainder of the race.
Making the home turn, QUARRY HAWK shifted out, taking SAILOR'S LARK and KOHINOOR BLUE wider on the track. A short distance later, QUARRY HAWK shifted in, tightening DRAGONVILLE. Stewards questioned apprentice Bill Stacey and his master Mr J. Everson concerning apprentice Stacey's riding of QUARRY HAWK. Apprentice Stacey explained that after jumping awkwardly the horse took control and he had difficulty settling his mount and he was obliged to race wide for the majority of the race. Stewards advised apprentice Stacey and Mr Everson they were concerned with the standard of apprentice Stacey's riding and advised Mr Everson that he should consider engaging the services of a stronger rider in future for QUARRY HAWK.
RACE 5: ROSS ASSOCIATES BUILDING DESIGNERS H'CAP - 1200M.
IVORY ROAD and GROWING CONCERN were slow to begin.
An inquiry was opened into the seemingly disappointing performance of KIST. Stable foreman Mr W. Olbrecht and jockey N. Day were both at a loss to explain the poor performance, and a veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Mr Olbrecht was requested to have the trainer notify stewards of anything that may come to his notice following the race which may have had an effect on the performance today.
RACE 6: JAMES & SHARLENE BLACK H'CAP - 1000M.
BLUE ON GREEN and SAHARA REGENT jumped awkwardly and made heavy contact at the start.
A short distance later, SAHARA REGENT was tightened between BLUE ON GREEN and SWEET CHIERI PIE.
Near the 700m., BLUE ON GREEN was briefly tightened by SAHARA REGENT, which shifted in momentarily when racing ungenerously.
Approaching the first turn, MAGIC ENCOUNTER had to be eased away to avoid the heels of SWEET CHERI PIE, which shifted out.
When questioned concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of SAHARA REGENT, J. Stanley explained that after receiving a heavy bump at the start he felt the horse was inclined to race ungenerously as a result and did not respond to his riding. A veterinary examination of SAHARA REGENT failed to reveal any abnormality.
JUST A PRINCESS made the home turn awkwardly, taking PRAY LATER wider on the track.
RACE 7: VELVET STYLE H'CAP - 1000M.
NERVES OF STEEL was slow to begin.
RICH AND FAMOUS cast its near front shoe when it blundered at the start, almost dislodging J. Babarovich.
RACE 8: T.C. H'CAP - 1350M.
SIMATAI was slow to begin.
IMPOSITION jumped awkwardly.
Leaving the 1000m., LOGAN'S RUN commenced to race ungenerously and refused to settle for some distance.
Making the home turn, ERINTEL made contact with IMPOSITION and had to be steadied momentarily when attempting to improve.
RACE 9: ATLANTIC DESIGN AND DRAFTING H'CAP - 1350M.
COUNTERSHOT was slow to begin.
GONDOLA jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 1200m., NIAGARA raced ungenerously and shifted out, taking BATON and OUTBREAK wider on the track. Leaving the 1000m., FOREVER MISSED had to be eased away from the heels of LIAM LAD and shifted out, making contact with NIAGARA, which resulted in BATON and OUT BREAK being forced wider.
RACE 10: FAREWELL MEL H'CAP - 2150M.
MIRACLE JAKE and CLEAR FINISH were slow to begin.
MALTESE SEA STAR made the turn out of the straight on the first occasion awkwardly..
Rounding the first turn, GLENBOLT had to be eased to avoid the heels of TEKWILA, which shifted in.
For some distance in the vicinity of the 1400m., MIDNIGHT DEAL got its head up and raced ungenerously.
After the finishing line, G. Geran's (MIDNIGHT DEAL) off-side iron broke.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
