RACE 1: BURGLAR OF BAMFF H'CAP - 1520M.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by G. Colless, rider of the second placegetter, REBEL REBEL, against CAPE SCHANCK being declared the winner, alleging interference in the final 200m.. On the evidence, stewards were of the view that inside the final 50m., CAPE SCHANCK shifted out under pressure, making contact with REBEL REBEL on at least 3 occasions, and from that evidence formed the opinion that the degree of interference suffered as a result of this incident by REBEL REBEL exceeded the short head margin between the 2 horses at the finish. Therefore they upheld the objection and amended the placings to read as follows: No. 4 - REBEL REBEL - 1st; No. 1 - CAPE SCHANCK - 2nd; No. 7 - BEACH PARADE - 3rd.
SAHARA SUZY shifted out at the start and made contact with BEACH PARADE.
Approaching the 200m., FURIOUSITY had to be steadied when tightened for room between SHECKY'S PRIDE and KAREN ANN, which shifted out.
Trainer A. Bailey was questioned regarding the improved performance of REBEL REBEL as compared to its second last placing at the Gold Coast on 31 March. A. Bailey stated on that occasion he had requested the gelding be ridden quietly, however REBEL REBEL raced fiercely when caught wide and as a result he removed the blinkers today and had expected the horse to improve when ridden quietly.
