GENERAL: As A. Kennedy, M. Smith-Lester, R. Morris, M. Dracos, P. Moodie and G. Geran were indisposed, the following riding replacements were approved:

RACE 1: DEE BEE TRANSPORT H'CAP - 1000M.
STRONG ROSE and PELICAN PRINCESS were slowly away.
Passing the 800m., DARK SEA was briefly tightened for room by UNION SQUARE, which shifted in.
STRONG ROSE was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
B. Stewart, rider of the second placegetter, UNION SQUARE, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the finish line.
RACE 2: BLUE RIBBON MOTORS H'CAP - 1350M.
AGAIN A GAIN jumped away awkwardly.
ROAD TO FREEDOM was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.
S. Thurlow, rider of LILY FLOJAY, accidentally dropped his whip at the 600m..
Approaching the 200m., MIT BLUMEN had to be steadied and alter course to the inside of AGAIN A GAIN.
RACE 3: EDWARDS MOTOR-CYCLES SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1100M.
Due to transport difficulties, POACHERS LUCK arrived late on course. Upon arrival, POACHERS LUCK was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to race.
FAIRY REIGN was slow to begin.
Near the 600m., JACK'S IDEA and JUST AMAZON made heavy contact, resulting in D. Tanti, rider of JUST AMAZON, becoming unbalanced.
Near the 500m., CORINDI GRAE, which was racing greenly, shifted out and had to be steadied off the heels of ST. LOUIS WOMAN.
Leaving the 500m., CANNY NORTHERNER attempted to shift out to improve, resulting in JACK'S IDEA,which had improved quickly to its outside, being taken out on to JUST AMAZON. In this incident, DARK ROOM GIRL, which was following, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of JUST AMAZON. A. Best, rider of CANNY NORTHERNER, was advised to exercise more care in future when shifting ground.
DARK ROOM GIRL returned to the enclosure with blood in its mouth due to a dislodged tooth.
A veterinary examination of SYNSATIONAL revealed the filly to have been galloped on on both hind legs.
Trainer S. Dwyer was advised that GOING BEAUTIFULLY would be required to barrier trial after the filly bucked shortly after the start and shifted out abruptly, hampering GALLOP'S MY NAME.
RACE 4: KINGWALL MANUFACTURING CO PTY LTD H'CAP - 1100M.
SAIL THE WIND jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
After leaving the 800m., BRANAHDAN and SAIL THE WIND were tightened for room between DIAMONDS FOR ME and PEPPEN BAY, which shifted out slightly.
Approaching the 400m., DIAMONDS FOR ME had to be restrained off the heels of MISTY TYCOON and shifted out, forcing CARAMEL STAR wider on the track.
PEPPEN BAY was held up for clear running from the 200m. until near the 50m..
BRANAHDAN was unable to obtain clear running until after leaving the 100m..
Apprentice D. Gay and trainer Mr G. Osborne were questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted by D. Gay in the middle stages on BRANAHDAN.. Apprentice Gay stated he had been instructed to allow the filly to settle back in the field from her wide barrier and endeavor to improve his position from the 500m. inside runners, however after leaving the 600m., he was of the opinion if he had shifted outwards he would have been forced very wide on the home turn, therefore electing to search for inside runs. Trainer Mr G. Osborne confirmed the instructions. The explanations were noted.
RACE 5: BROTHER'S CRICKET CLUB H'CAP - 1500M.
For some distance rounding the turn, MICKEY BLUE EYES was held up for clear running behind the tiring LADY TRISH.
RACE 6: CURRIE MOTORS H'CAP - 1666M.
Due to an office effor, A. Parramore was advertised as the rider of BELLO SIGNOR. M. Williamson was the replacement rider.
EVENPSALM shifted out abruptly on jumping away, dislodging M. McDonald. Trainer J. Collins was advised that he would be required to provide a barrier certificate for EVENPSALM prior to its next race start.
ANOTHER OFFCUT jumped outwards at the start and made contact with MELLIERI, taking MELLIERI out on to LORD COVENTRY.
Passing the 1200m., MELLIERI pulled up on to the heels of TELESIO and had to be checked, and in doing so shifted out across that horse's heels.
R. Goltz, rider of the 5th placegetter, GENE'S INTEREST, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the finish line.
RACE 7: B.D. CONTRACTING PTY LTD H'CAP - 1350M.
Trainer A. Bailey was fined $25 for presenting EXTRAVAGANT without blinkers.

EXTRAVAGANT made contact with the outside fence in its preliminary. The mare was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
MY VANITY FAIR was slowly away.
Approaching the 1200m., CORROFIN shifted in, tightening the running of NEW YORK TIMES and MUKANIC.
Nearing the 1100m., MUKANIC had to be restrained to avoid the heels of NEW YORK TIMES, which was taken in by CHICAGO NIGHTS. S. Katsidis, rider of CHICAGO NIGHTS, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
Approaching the 1000m., MUKANIC again had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MANDORA. In the above 3 incidents, MUKANIC was inclined to race ungenerously.
ENTITY was obliged to race wide in the middle stages.
G. Colless reported that after travelling well in the lead, CORROFIN got off balance near the 600m. and commenced to lose ground.
RACE 8: THE HAGGARTY GROUP PTY LTD H'CAP - 1200M.
PRIDE OF WESTON blundered on jumping away, dislodging K. Bell.
Nearing the 1000m., LEGEND MATERIAL had to be steadied to avoid the heels of COURTLY TRUMP, which was taken in by TELL HE'S MAGIC. G. Colless, rider of TELL HE'S MAGI, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
After leaving the 800m., POWER BY improved to the inside of SWIRLING STAR where there was insufficient room and as a result had to be restrained.
Near the 600m., the riderless PRIDE OF WESTON shifted in abruptly, causing KWILA SPIRIT to be checked. At the same stage, BURBANK, which was following, shifted out abruptly.
Approaching the 400m., POWER BY shifted away from the riderless horse, resulting in BURBANK being tightened on to the hind quarters of LEGEND MATERIAL and as a result blundered.
Inside the 200m., ICY SNIP shifted in under pressure, inconveniencing SWIRLING STAR.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
