WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - OUT 7M. ALL TRACK
RACE 1: WET WALL PLASTERING PTY LTD H'CAP - 1350M.
STAR OF MINOLTA was slow to jump.
Approaching the 800m., DISTINCT RHYTHM, when overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of MOOD SWINGS and shifted out, taking STAR OF MINOLTA wider on the track.
RACE 2: M & D VEGETABLE SPECIALISTS H'CAP - 1515M.
On jumping, TOP HAT CHARLIE shifted in and made contact with POLISH COURT.
Passing the 800m., TOP HAT CHARLIE commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of POLISH COURT. A short distance later, UNCLE BADE ran up onto the heels of TOP HAT CHARLIE and had to be steadied.
Approaching the first turn, SOMETHING FOR KATE had to be restrained off the heels of POLISH COURT and shifted in, making contact with ANNIE THE BRAVE. At the same stage, JUBILEE KATE shifted out and made contact with REMEMBER ROBIN, which resulted in JUBILEE KATE becoming unbalanced.
J. Sharp, rider of SOMETHING FOR KATE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he allowed his mount to shift in approaching the 400m. when insufficiently clear of SEDITION, which in turn shifted in, resulting in JUBILEE KATE having to be checked.. REMEMBER ROBIN, which was following, also had to be severely checked in this incident. J. Sharp was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 2 August, and to expire at midnight, 15 August 2003.
Over the concluding stages, UNCLE BADE was held up for clear running behind ISHKHAN.
RACE 3: TURNERS TRANSPORT & CRANE HIRE H'CAP - 1100M.
ALACK and CARRY THE FAIR jumped away awkwardly.
At the 850m., SAHARA NOBLE was momentarily tightened by TROOPER DANE, which shifted in.
ALACK was obliged to race wide from the 600m. until the entrance to the straight.
Approaching the 400m., CARRY THE FAIR had to be steadied off the heels of SAHARA NOBLE and in doing so shifted in, which resulted in SANTA FE GAL having to be steadied.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of THEATRE KING, apprentice Z. Purton stated that he was instructed to ride the horse forward, however in doing so he was caught 3 wide for the majority of the event, and the horse failed to run on despite his efforts. A veterinary examination of THEATRE KING following the event revealed the gelding to have suffered lacerations and contusions to the off hock.
RACE 4: JOCK'S RIGHT H'CAP - 1100M.
As S. Galloway was to be overweight, C. Whitely was substituted as the rider of SUN OF CLANG.
VEE ROD jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
TILES was slow to begin.
Approaching the 800m., LUNK had to be steadied and lost ground when BLACK LIMOUSINE shifted in. P. Gesler, rider of BLACK LIMOUSINE, was reprimanded and reminded of her obligations when shifting ground.
RACE 5: COL'S TRANSPORT H'CAP - 1010M.
S. Galloway was fined $200 for failing to fulfil his engagement on SUN OF CLANG, a booking which was taken by his manager. A. Kennedy was substituted as the rider of SUN OF CLANG.
No racing incidents.
RACE 6:TEST DRIVE A MITSUBISHI H'CAP - 2150M.
M. Dracos was stood down by stewards from his engagement on KWILTIME when it was found that his application for renewal of his jockey's licence was not in order. A. Kennedy was substituted as the rider of KWILTIME.
No racing incidents.
RACE 7: 2003 MITSUBISHI SQ THOROUGHBRED RACING SERIES FINAL - 1700M.
Due to an office error, M. Rice was not shown in the racebook as the rider of TRAILER.
Approaching the first turn, FASHION JEWELS shifted in, resulting in SADDLE BOY having to be steadied.
RACE 8: MCPHERSON'S MECHANICAL REPAIRS H'CAP - 1200M.
PHARMACY jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
BLUE MOXIE also began awkwardly.
Approaching the 800m., LEAD THE ACE became unbalanced when racing in restricted room inside MIGHTY RUSH.
Nearing the 500m., MIGHTY RUSH shifted out to improve, taking AWESOME SWADOW wider on the track.
Passing the 200m., LEAD THE ACE shifted out and made contact with BLUE MOXIE.
Stewards questioned trainer B. Brown regarding the disappointing performance of OUR COGNAC. Trainer B. Brown stated that he could offer no explanation for the performance today other than the gelding has had a long preparation and may have trained off. He added that OUR COGNAC would be spelled immediately. A veterinary examination of OUR COGNAC following the event failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 9: LOVE MY VEGIES H'CAP - 1200M.
Due to apprentice S. Richardson's failure to arrive on course, and as there was no other suitable apprentice available, C. Whitely was substituted as the rider of TIZ. S. Richardson will be interviewed regarding this matter.
GLENCOGAN STAR jumped away awkwardly, making contact with the side partition of the starting stalls.
LUST FOR VICTORY jumped outwards at the start, taking CILL AIRNE'S GHOST out on to TIZ.
Near the 300m., HEALER was disappointed for a run between CHIEFODEON and THUNDER FLIGHT. HEALER was then unable to obtain clear running until near the 100m..
Over the concluding stages, THUNDER FLIGHT shifted out abruptly under pressure, taking CHIEFODEON out on to HIGH KWILA.
ALL WINNERS AND ALMIGHTY ROAR WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
