WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD RAIL - TRUE POSITION

GENERAL - From Race 7, GCTC meeting, 8.11.03

An adjourned inquiry into the reason for GOLD EYE, riden by D. Griffin, being checked near the first turn was concluded today. After taking evidence from D. Griffin and C. Small, rider of BOTTLE NOSE, it was established that approaching the first turn, GOLD EYE commenced to race fiercely and struck the heels of BOTTLE NOSE, which had shifted out slightly, resulting in GOLD EYE blundering. In this incident, BOTTLE NOSE suffered a laceration to its near hind leg. Whilst the racing manners of GOLD EYE was noted in this incident, C. Small was nevertheless advised of his obligations to be 2 lengths clear before shifting ground.

RACE 1:DAVE ROBSON H'CAP - 1000M.

As S. Katsidis was indisposed, P. Hammersley was substituted as the rider of FRENCHY, M. Rodd as the rider of SPECIAL DAME (Race 2) and B. Stewart as the rider of REGAL SAPPHIRE (Race 8)

FRENCHY and IPAY jumped away awkwardly.

Shortly after the start, IPAY had to be steadied off the heels of MR MOONLIGHT, which shifted in.

Passing the 400m., CONDAMINE DANCER, when under pressure, shifted in and brushed the running rail.

LATEEN was obliged to race in a 3-wide position for the majority of the event.


RACE 2: MURRAY HEAVEN H'CAP - 1000M.
.
As S. Killen was indisposed, S. Galloway was substituted as the rider of CANADIAN BLUE, and MISS ASHBY (Race 8), and C. Whiteley as the rider of MAYNE IMPULSE (Race 3).

FIFTH ELEMENT was slow to jump.

Approaching the first turn, SHE'S GOT STING raced in restricted room to the inside of FAR COMMAND. A short distance later, PAST TENSE, which had a tendency to lay in, shifted in, taking FAR COMMAND in on to SHE'S GOT STING, which had to be steadied and lose its position. Stewards nevertheless reprimanded C. Whiteley, rider of PAST TENSE, and advised him to make a greater effort in similar circumstances to prevent his mounts shifting ground.

At the entrance to the straight, FAR COMMAND shifted out, resulting in SHE'S GOT STING having to be steadied and shift out, hampering SPECIAL DAME.


RACE 3: BRIAN TURNER PLATE

As D. Miller was indisposed, D. Griffin was substituted as the rider of SOVERATO and LIGHT THE PIPE (Race 7), and P. Wolfgram as the rider of SCARLET SARI (Race 5).

BETTER LIGHT as slow to jump.

Approaching the first turn, MAYNE IMPULSE had to be steadied between TIME FOR A STAR and JEWEL OF NEDIYM, which was taken in by ELITE ELVEEN. A short distance later, BUZZER had to b steadied off the heels of SOVERATO.

Nearing the 800m., BUZZER commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of SOVERATO.

When questioned, C. Whiteley, rider of MAYNE IMPULSE, stated that he was unable to improve his position when held up behind JEWEL OF NEDIYM and COSTA I SAID SO from the 600m. to the entrance to the straight. He further added that approaching the 400m. his mount dipped of its own accord.


RACE 4: WANDERERS CRICKET CLUB H'CAP - 1350M.

PEDRO'S POWER jumped away awkwardly.

Due to the slow early pace, PEDRO'S POWER commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of MADIBA on a number of occasions between 1200m. and 700m..


RACE 5: PETER BALMER QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1350M.

RATE OF KNOTS and ATTEMOI jumped away awkwardly and made contact with the side partition.

Apprentice P. Hammersley and stable foreman B. Hill were questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on GOLDLANI in today's event. P. Hammersley stated he was instructed to be handy in the early and middle stages, however shortly after the start, the colt fired up and commenced to race fiercely and he was unable to restrained the horse for the majority of the event. P. Hammersley further stated that GOLDLANI seemed to resent the blinkers, which were advertised as a gear change for today's event. B. Hill could offer no other explanation for today's performance, however would recommend to trainer G. Ryan that the blinkers be removed prior to its next race start. A veterinary examination of GOLDLANI revealed the colt to be showing signs of lameness in the off fore leg and had a slower than normal recovery rate.


RACE 6: MAL BAVAGE H'CAP - 2150M.

TOP HAT CHARLIE, which became cast in the stalls prior to the start, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

GOLD NAT and TOP HAT CHARLIE made contact on jumping.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, TOP HAT CHARLIE, when being restrained, clipped the heels of TOLOCIN and blundered.

Over the concluding stages, BRAVE WALTER shifted in, taking HOBEAU in on to DANCING MAN.

Apprentice L. Fitzsimmons, rider of TOLOCIN, was reprimanded for failing to weigh in 5th.


RACE 7: BRIAN CARTER H'CAP - 1100M.

Shortly after the start, MANDINO had to be checked between OH CHRIS and RAINBOW KING, which shifted out slightly, and LORD REGGAE, which shifted in. M. Cullen, rider of LORD REGGAE, was reprimanded. FLYING REALITY, which was following, had to be steadied off the heels of MANDINO.

Approaching the 400m., RAINBOW KING dipped of its own accord.

K. Pope, rider of MANDINO, reported that his mount hung out throughout the event.


RACE 8: SKIP COLLYER H'CAP - 1100M.

MILADY MATTY was hampered between REGAL SAPPHIRE and CLING 'N' CLANG, which shifted in at the start.


ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
