GENERAL: As Y. Yamazaki and P. Hammersley were injured, the following riding replacements were approved.

RACE 1: IPSWICH BASKETBALL ENIRES AND GELDINGS CLASS 1 H'CAP
PARITA BEACH was slow to begin.
CHEETAH COUNTY and TRANQUIL BLUE were obliged to race wide throughout the race.
COPPER KING was unable to obtain clear running at any stage in the home straight.
Over the concluding stages, COOPER KING, when held up behind the heels of DR CONGO, shifted out and made contact with CHEETAH COUNTY
When questioned regarding his riding out over the concluding stages of CAN HE HULA, D. Craven stated that he was disadvantaged in testing his mount due to the gelding having a tendency to hang out, which resulted in him having to stop riding and straighten the horse. Stewards accepted the explanation.
RACE 2: PIT STOP TYRE & MECHANICAL FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1020M.
LION PRINCESS jumped outwards at the start and brushed SPARKLE EXPRESS.
VEBITA also jumped outwards at the start and made contact with UNDER COVET.
Leaving the 800m., LETS TOUCH BASE, which was racing ungenerously, had to be checked after receiving slight pressure from BOBBIE BELLE, which shifted in when also racing greenly.
Leaving the 700m., SPARKLE EXPRESS reacted adversely to HALIBUT being on that horse's outside and shifted out abruptly across that runners heels. BOBBIE BELLE, which was following, had to be checked off the heels of SPARKLE EXPRESS..
Leaving the 500m., SPARKLE EXPRESS again reacted adversely when inside runners and again shifted out abruptly across the heels of HAYLEY AND BRITT. LETS TOUCH BASE, which was following, also had to be checked in this incident. The racing manners of SPARKLE EXPRESS were brought to the attention of trainer J. McMahon's representative Mr L. Clark and he was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare.
RACE 3: ON THE SPOT FILTER CLEAN FILLIES MAIDEN H'CAP - 1100M.
Stewards permitted MARIAH BAY to race with blinkers in this event. Following the race, after checking records at the Trainers' Service Centre, trainer G. Burns was fined the sum of $100 for failing to notify the change by the required time. AR140B(2).
VIDANCE was slow to begin.
VIXENS TRAIL jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
Leaving the 800m., VIXENS TRAIL commenced to race greenly and leaving the 700m. blundered of its own accord when racing to the inside of QUICKLO.
SHANI'S CROWN raced wide throughout the event and approaching the home turn was taken wider by LOVE IN THE SUN, which shifted out to improve.
Following the event when returning to the enclosure, H. Watanabe was harmlessly dislodged from DRAMA MISS.
RACE 4: PORTERS PLAINLAND HOTEL ENTIRES AND GELDINGS MAIDEN H'CAP - 1100M. PORTERS PLAINLAND HOTEL ENTIRES AND GELDINGS MAIDEN H'CAP - 1100M.
A. Kennedy failed to arrive on course in time to take his engagement on LORD MATTY and was subsequently replaced by W.J. Cook. Stewards accepted A. Kennedy's explanation and no further action was taken.
LORD MATTY was tightened for room at the start between SHEER ABILITY and STEAMBOAT, both of which shifted ground at the start.
BASUCO was slow to begin.
COAT OF ARMS was obliged to race wide for the majority of the race.
RACE 5: SPANNERS SIGNS MAIDEN PLATE - 1350M.
As D. Stanley was to be overweight on MEDIA MANIA, he was subsequently replaced by R. Goltz. D. Stanley was fined the sum of $200. At a subsequent inquiry following a report from the Clerk of Scales, D. Stanley pleaded guilty to a breach of AR118C(c), in that he attempted to weigh out for this race when not wearing an approved body protector. D. Stanley was fined the sum of $400.
PRETTY SMOOTH jumped outwards at the start and tightened RHODA'S ROSE on to the hind quarters of TYROGUE.
S. Drake, rider of PRETTY SMOOTH, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that leaving the 200m., whilst riding her mount along with the whip, she permitted PRETTY SMOOTH to shift oiut when insufficiently clear of BLUEBERRY AVENUE, resulting in that runner having to be checked off the heels of PRETTY SMOOTH. S. Drake was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 4 September, and to expire at midnight, 18 September 2004.
THUNDER BY was obliged to race wide throughout the event.
RACE 6: QRSE BROTHERS LEAGUES CLUB CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1350M.
FLEECED was declared a late scratching at 7.45 a.m.. Trainer M. Brosnan, through her representative, was fined the sum of $100 for failing to scratched by the prescribed time.
CANA BOY jumped outwards at the start and made heavy contact with STELLAR PRINCE.
DUALINER jumped away awkwardly.
Leaving the 1300m., SEAINTA was momentarily steadied off the heels of THREE COINS, which shifted in.
RACE 7: QRSE COMETS BASKETALL CLUB CLASS 3 H'CAP - 1200M.
Rounding the first turn, SNIPPETY LASS shifted in and made contact with CROWN REGATTA, unbalancing that horse.
Approaching the 1100m., MONTEGUE shifted in, tightening EVASIVE LASS, resulting in that horse bumping the hind quarters of FOXXY CLEO, which in turn shifted in. PRAIRIE FOX, which was racing on the fence, had to be steadied and as a result commenced to overrace and continued to overrace throughout the middle stages. G. Colless, rider of MONTEGUE, was reprimanded and advised to provide more clearance when shifting ground in future.
Approaching the 600m., FOXXY CLEO had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MONTEGUE, which shifted out after being bumped by SNIPPETY LASS.
Rounding the home turn and for some distance after entering the straight, CROWN REGATTA was held up for clear running.
RACE 8: LEICHHARDT TAKEAWAY CLASS 2 H'CAP - 1700M.
MONEY EACH WAY jumped outwards at the start and made contact with the hind quarters of ROLL YOUR OWN.
ARTISTIC FAME also jumped out at the start and bumped VACINTA ROSE, which resulted in further crowding to MONKEY EACH WAY.
Approaching the first turn, MONKEY EACH WAY shifted in and made contact with SAVAGE GARDEN, unbalancing that runner.
Again after leaving the 1200m., SAVAGE GARDEN became unbalanced when racing in restricted room to the inside of MONKEY EACH WAY.
Rounding the first turn, SPECIAL EFFORTS commenced to throw its head in the air when refusing to settle.
When questioned regarding the performance of SUNDAY SUNRISE, R. McMahon stated that rounding the first turn, SKYWAYS raced up quickly to his outside, which resulted in his mount overracing and he was unable to restrain the horse, and it continued to overrace until rounding the home turn where the horse compounded and finished back in the field. The explanation was noted. A post race veterinary examination of SUNDAY SUNRISE revealed the horse had sustained a small laceration to the off fore pastern.
