SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
As J. Jones, and B. Pengelly were ill and P. Wolfgram injured, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 1: Ray White Ipswich Maiden Plate – 1710m
1st –Nassavette 2nd – Arakawa 3rd – French Penn 4th – Prince Hattal
Due to transport difficulties, M. Sharpe was unable to fulfil her engagement on MY BOY and was replaced by J. Piper.
FRENCH PENN (R. McMahon) and PRINCE HATTAL (L. Rolls) bumped on jumping away.
MY BOY (J. Piper) began awkwardly.
SANTA TERESA (D. Pires) also began awkwardly, losing ground.
PRINCE HATTAL (L. Rolls) and GREY SKYE (J. Brown) both overraced during the early stages.
Near the 1400m, the saddle slipped forward on WAY TOO HOT, and near the 1200m, G. Auckram lost both irons, placing him at a severe disadvantage for the remainder of the event. In this incident, WAY TOO HOT became awkwardly placed at the heels of HAZEL JEAN (W. Clasohm) and as a result shifted wider on the track, resulting in J. Piper having to check the momentum of MY BOY and shift wider on the track. As a consequence, MY BOY raced wide for the remainder of the event and near the 900m blundered.
FRENCH PENN (R. McMahon) was inconvenienced rounding the home turn when awkwardly placed behind WAY TOO HOT, which was commencing to lose ground, and as a result was obliged to shift out to obtain clear running.
Race 2: Southern Queensland Steel Maiden H’cap – 1100m
1st – Thethingswedo 2nd – To Fast To Good 3rd – Refinance 4th – Craiglea Gold
REFINANCE proved very difficult to load and was fractious in the barriers. Trainer H. Page was advised that she must provide a further barrier certificate for REFINANCE prior to its next race start.
HELENA ROAD (T. Chambers) also proved difficult to load. Trainer N. Hole was advised that HELENA ROAD must trial satisfactorily before racing again.
MANAWIN (J. Quinnell) was slow into stride.
JUCO ROSSI (J. Brown) began awkwardly.
PURELY BLUE (W. Clasohm) and I’MONTOP (R. McMahon) bumped on jumping away.
Shortly after the start, MANAWIN was tightened for room between ROYAL CHALLENGE (G. Auckram) and CRAIGLEA GOLD (J. Piper), which shifted in.
Approaching the 600m, REFINANCE (L. Rolls) shifted out and in doing so forced TO FAST TO GOOD wider on the track.
REFINANCE and TO FAST TO GOOD bumped on a number of occasions between the 500m and 400m.
HELENA ROAD (T. Chambers) and CRAIGLEA GOLD (J. Piper) raced wide throughout.
A post race veterinary examination of REFINANCE revealed the filly to have a laceration to the near-side stifle.
Race 3: Ripley Town Centre Class 3 H’cap – 1100m
1st – Felecia 2nd – Mossvana 3rd – Mr Tombola 4th – Prince Antibes
NEW JOURNEY (D. Tanti) was slow to begin.
MORCOMBE (G. Auckram) began awkwardly.
MOSSVANA (L. Rolls) was held up and unable to obtain clear running from near the 400m until leaving the 200m, and then shifted out across the heels of MORCOMBE to obtain clear running.
Near the 300m, KALINGA KATE (J. Holder) was disappointed for a narrow run to the inside of MOSSVANA and had to be steadied. A short distance later, KALINGA KATE was held up on the heels of the weakening MORCOMBE (G. Auckram).
SAPHIRA (M. Cahill) raced wide throughout.
When questioned regarding his riding tactics on KALINGA KATE over the final 100m J. Holder explained that he had to steady the momentum of his mount when he attempted to take a narrow run to the inside of MORCOMBE (G. Auckram) leaving the 200m, which resulted in KALINGA KATE being held up for clear running until approaching the winning post..
Apprentice C. Dixon returned to scale in excess of half a kilogram overweight on PRINCE ANTIBES. C. Dixon was fined the sum of $200. (AR145).
Race 4: Bianca (NZ) Ipswich Cup Winner 2008 Class 2 H’cap – 800m
1st – Je Ne Sais Pas 2nd – Youcantseeme 3rd – Fortoinette 4th – Nuclear Trust
As G. Colless was to be overweight, R. McMahon was substituted as the rider of LEICA DOVE. G. Colless was fined the sum of $100.
A pre-race veterinary examination of VAINROC, which had sustained minor lacerations to its off-side stifle and off fore fetlock, cleared the horse to start.
DREAM’S COMING (C. Dixon) began awkwardly and shifted out, tightening FORTOINETTE (J. Holder) out on to LITTLE MISS BARBIE (D. Green).
JE SAIS PAS (M. Cahill) began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping YOUCANTSEEME (D. Griffin).
SONGKARAI (J. Brown) and SIR ROY (K. Wharton) bumped at the start.
NUCLEAR TRUST (W. Clasohm) and VAINROC (J. Murphy) also made contact on jumping away.
Approaching the 450m, LITTLE MISS BARBIE (D. Green) became unbalanced when racing in restricted room between FORTOINETTE (J. Holder) and YOUCANTSEEME (D. Griffin), which shifted in slightly.
DREAM’S COMING (C. Dixon) overraced during the middle stages.
A post race veterinary examination of NUCLEAR TRUST revealed the gelding to be lame in the off knee. Trainer B. Trimble was advised he must provide a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to its next race start.
Race 5: City Of Ipswich QTIS 2yo H’cap – 800m
1st – Snippet Street 2nd – Winnow 3rd – Local Talent 4th - Margette
A pre-race examination of LOCAL TALENT, which was kicked behind the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.
LOCAL TALENT (G. Colless), which was fractious in the barriers prior to the start, began awkwardly.
BECS ZA GOER (D. Griffin) was slow to begin.
TORA SAN (T. Chambers) and NOT DECLARED (M. Heagney) bumped on jumping away.
MAGNIFICENT DANCER (D. Pires) raced greenly during the early stages.
MODERN EYES (S. Drake) overraced in the early stages of the race.
Approaching the 500m, MARGETTE (R. McMahon) became awkwardly placed on the heels of DANCING ROYAL (J. Holder).
TORA SAN (T. Chambers) hung out from the 500m until entering the straight.
Near the 200m, DANCING ROYAL was obliged to alter course across the heels of MODERN EYES, which shifted out. A short distance later, DANCING ROYAL again had to be steadied when tightened for room by MODERN EYES, which shifted in.
Race 6: Sky Channel Live Racing Class 5 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Three Chances 2nd – Mohawk 3rd – Ebony Lad 4th – Welcome Site
EBONY LAD (A. Erhart) was inclined to overrace during the early and middle stages of the race.
S. Drake was unable to fully test THREE CHANCES rounding the home turn due to its tendency to lay out.
MOHAWK (K. Wharton) raced wide throughout.
A post race veterinary examination of WELCOME SITE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 7: Schweppes Class 1 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Checkit 2nd – Divinity Dash 3rd – Dominus Lord 4th - Arhondas
Due to transport difficulties, M. Palmer was unable to fulfil his engagement on DOMINUS LORD and was replaced by R. Goltz.
J. Byrne will be interviewed into the reason for failing to fulfil his engagement on DIVINITY DASH. R. Wiggings replaced J. Byrne on DIVINITY DASH.
Trainer T. Malseed will be interviewed into the reason for the late withdrawal of MACNAUGHTY at 7.42 a.m.
ARHONDAS was examined at the barriers by the club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.
Stewards considered an objection lodged by R. Goltz, rider of the 3rd placegetter, DOMINUS LORD, against DIVINITY DASH, placed 2nd, alleging interference over the final 200m. After considering the matter and acting on their own observations, stewards dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored. In deciding the matter, stewards were of the opinion that DIVINITY DASH shifted approaching the finish line, making contact with DOMINUS LORD, however the material extent of the interference did not exceed the finish margin between the two horses.
COOLWAN (A. Erhart) was slow to begin and shortly after the start was tightened between ALL FOR ROME (C. Dixon) and RUSTIC ROSSA (J. Holder), both of which shifted ground.
R. Wiggins was almost dislodged from DIVINITY DASH after making heavy contact with AL JAASELLE (W. Clasohm) at the start.
FANTASIES TONIGHT (J. Quinnell) was disappointed for a run between COOL VAN (A. Erhart) and RUSTIC ROSSA (J. Holder) leaving the 400m.
Near the 200m, FANTASIES TONIGHT was disappointed for a run between TINKLES (L. Rolls) and DOMINUS LORD (R. Goltz) and was steadied and shifted out across the heels of DOMINUS LORD to obtain clear running.
DOMINUS LORD, TOKYO TANGO (M. Heagney), FALAH (G. Colless) and AL JAASELLE (W. Clasohm) raced wide throughout.
Following the race, G. Colless reported that FALAH was making respiratory noises during the event. A post race veterinary examination of FALAH failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer A. Cowell was advised that he would be required to produce a veterinary clearance for FALAH prior to its next race start.
Race 8: XXXX As Good As Gold Class 1 H’cap – 1710m
1st – Patti 2nd – Dispurser 3rd – Snowzame 4th – Hurricane Lass
HEARWEARE (D. Griffin) began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping SNOWZAME (M. Cahill).
Shortly after the start, SNOWZAME shifted out and bumped HURRICAN LASS (K. Yoshida).
MARQUIS DE ROY (R. Goltz) and IRRESISTIBELLE (L. Rolls) were slow to begin.
PATTI (R. Wiggins) raced wide during the early and middle stages.
PATTI shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
Over the concluding stages, DISPURSER (J. Quinnell) shifted in under pressure and bumped PATTI (R. Wiggins).
TUSCANNY AFFAIR (J. Brown) raced wide throughout.
Prior to correct weight, the Judge contacted the stewards to advise that he had amended his original placings for 1st and 2nd to: No. 4 - PATTI -R. Wiggins – 1st and No. 6 - DISPURSER – J. Quinnell – 2nd. Stewards delayed correct weight to allow the connections of both horses to view the official photo image, following which correct weight was declared. Stewards subsequently interviewed the Judge Mr P. Chilton, in company with ITC General Manager Mr B. Kitching, regarding the matter, and directed that a written report be furnished to Queensland Racing regarding the matter.
