Race 1: XXXX Gold Grange Plate QTIS 2yo H'cap – 1100m

The start of this race was delayed when CAIDEN'S COMMAND (T. Bell) had to be resaddled after arriving at the barriers.

JITTERBUG (B. Avdulla) was slow to begin.

C. Munce reported that ROSENET jumped in the air as the start was effected and lost ground.

REAL FAVULOUS (K. Matheson) jumped away awkwardly.

BROWN WATER (A. Allen) had to be checked shortly after the start when BUSY (P. Schmidt) shifted out, taking TITANOMAGNETIC (A. Pattillo) outwards.

Passing the 800m, ROSENET had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room between AQUATOR (P. Hammersley) and CAIDEN'S COMMAND (T. Bell), which shifted in when being restrained.

Near the 250m, ROSENET was disappointed for a run between BUSY and BROWN WATER (A. Allen) and was obliged to alter course to the inside of BROWN WATER to obtain clear running.

CAIDEN'S COMMAND raced wide without cover throughout.

When asked to explain the seemingly improved performance of ARCHITECT, trainer D. Lawlor stated that prior to the horse's most recent run, the races in which it had competed were stronger form races than the horse participated in today. He added that following its run in the Sires' Produce Stakes, on the recommendation of jockey C. Munce, he removed the tongue-tie and added a tongue control bit today. It was the view of Mr Lawlor that this had enabled the horse to settle today towards the rear of the field, which is its pattern of racing that has brought about its best performances. The explanation was noted.

Race 2: Optus Ipswich Mie Benchmark 85 H'cap – 1666m

MR SLICK (T. Treichel) was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, REQUIREMENT (P. Hammersley) shifted out abruptly and brushed PURFECTRESS (G. Cooksley).

Near the 700m, PURFECTRESS, when overracing, had to be steadied from the heels of FLYING HOME (J. Byrne).

After passing the 200m, FLYING HOME shifted in under pressure and brushed WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY (G. Colless).

TISANI BOY (T. Bell) raced 3 wide until it commenced to weaken after passing the 500m. A post race veterinary examination of TISANI BOY failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 3: Ray White Ipswich Dash Class 6 Plate – 1100m

ROYAL SHOUT (P. Hammersley) was slow to begin.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight, CAPE KIDNAPPERS (R. McMahon) was held up and unable to improve.

Over the final 100m, ROYAL SHOUT (P. Hammersley) was disappointed for clear running between BAHSA (G. Cooksley) and MOUNT KOSCIUSZKO (P. Schmidt), which had commenced to weaken.

After passing the 200m, ALCANCIA (M. Cahill) had to alter course to the inside of CAPE KIDNAPPERS in order to improve.

BYMONASHEE (E. Wilkinson) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

BYMONASHEE raced 3 wide throughout.

Race 4: Queensland Times Provincial Cup – 2150m

Upon arrival at the barriers, BOREHOLE was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the request of its jockey A Spinks. BOREHOLE was subsequently cleared to start.

After being loaded into the barriers, HANDSOME DANE (B. Avdulla) became fractious and as a result its bridle became detached. HANDSOME DANE was removed from the barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

RUNDLE HEIGHTS (G. Cooksley) was hampered at the start when tightened for room between CUBAN (A. Pattillo) and HANDSOME DANE, which jumped away awkwardly and shifted in.

Near the 1300m when the pace steadied, BACK TO ABILENE (L. Cassidy) shifted out from the heels of HOW FAIRDINKUM (P. Hammersley), which resulted in him making contact with KING OF THE FOREST (E. Wilkinson), which was taken wider on the track. KING OF THE FOREST raced 3 wide for the remainder of the race.

FIFTH COLUMN (S. Bogenhuber) was unable to secure clear running from the 500m until the 150m, at which stage it improved onto the heels of BOREHOLE (A. Spinks) and became unbalanced.

Rounding the home turn, RANDOM ORBIT (K. Matheson) and GENERAL EXPLORER (A. Allen) were held up when unable to improve.

MARKOUT (C. Munce) raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

B. Avdulla, rider of HANDSOME DANE, was cautioned for using his whip in an action that resulted in his whip hand being raised above shoulder height.

Race 5: Yalumba Benchmark 75 H'cap – 1350m

FREEROCKER (T. Treichel), RUN WITH ME (B. Stewart), QUARTERLY (B. Avdulla) and AROUND THE WORLD (M. Hellyer) were slow to begin.

AUSWORLD (J. Byrne) was held up rounding the home turn when unable to obtain clear running.

Near the 250m, FREEROCKER shifted out and bumped AROUND THE WORLD (M. Hellyer).

Approaching the 200m, QUARTERLY (B. Avdulla) had to be steadied when tightened for room between AROUND THE WORLD and AUSWORLD (J. Byrne), which shifted out.

LORD LION HEART (K. Matheson), ROUVRAY (R. McMahon) and LOVES THE SHOW (L. Innes) raced wide throughout.

B. Stewart, rider of RUN WITH ME, was reprimanded for failing to ride his mount out to the finish of the race. Whilst stewards acknowledged the difficulties the horse had in securing clear running in the early part of the straight, it is the stewards' belief that if an opportunity exists for a rider to fully test his mount in the home straight, that rider is obligated to take that opportunity irrespective of the horse's position with regard to the placings.

Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice A. Allen regarding the tactics adopted on MISHANI WARRIOR rounding the home turn, in particular the reason he committed his mount to the inside of LOVES THE SHOW rather than move wider to the outside of LOVES THE SHOW and provide his mount with clear and uninterrupted running to the finish line. A. Allen stated that on reflection he had made a mistake by committing to the inside of LOVES THE SHOW, which resulted in MISHANI WARRIOR being held up. A. Allen explained that when MISS BRADBURY progressed to his outside passing the 450m and he would have been obliged to move MISS BRADBURY wider, he took the opportunity of a narrow opening forward of him. Stewards were of the view that apprentice Allen had erred by taking the run to the inside of LOVES THE SHOW but were not satisfied his conduct amounted to a breach of the rules. Apprentice Allen will be referred to Racing Queensland Training Department for them to provide him with tuition.

A post race veterinary examination of RUN WITH ME failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

A post race veterinary examination of QUARTERLY revealed it to have bled from its near-side nostril. Connections were advised that QUARTERLY must gallop 1000m before stewards before being permitted to race again.

Race 6: Sky Racing Gai Waterhouse Classic – 1350m

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by jockey J. Bowditch in relation to his dual engagement on WHATEVERWHENEVER and SKATING ON ICE.

Trainer L. Birchley was fined $100 for presenting WHATEVERWHENEVER without blinkers, which was part of its approved gear.

TRIPLE SIX (T. Bell) was slow to begin.

AMETSIS (L. Innes) was restrained at the start from its wide barrier to gain a position closer to the rail.

SKATING ON ICE (J. Bowditch) and WHATEVERWHENEVER (E. Wilkinson) overraced in the early stages.

Near the 800m, AMETSIS, when overracing, improved onto the heels of LOVE FOR RANSOM (R. Wiggins) and had to be checked. L. Innes reported that AMETSIS hung out throughout the race and proved difficult to ride.

Rounding the home turn, AMETSIS was held up for clear running behind SHARNEE ROSE (G. Colless), which had commenced to tire.

Passing the 200m, NEXT THE UNIVERSE (J. Byrne) had to be steadied from the heels of ZAMBONI (P. Holmes) and alter course to the inside of that runner in order to improve.

Over the concluding stages, AMETSIS (L. Innes) had to be steadied when tightened for room between CITY OF SONG (B. Avdulla) and WHATEVERWHENEVER (E. Wilkinson), which shifted out slightly under pressure.

When asked to explain the disappointing performance of BOUND TO BLUSH, rider C. Munce stated that the mare never travelled comfortably and was disappointing when it weakened over the final 400m. He was of the view that BOUND TO BLUSH may not have been suited by today's prevailing track conditions. A post race veterinary examination of BOUND TO BLUSH failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Stewards sought an explanation from G. Colless regarding the performance of SHARNEE ROSE. G. Colless stated that he was obliged to work hard in the early stages in order to cross WHATEVERSHENEVER (E. Wilkinson) and obtain a position one off outside the leader BOUND TO BLUSH (C. Munce). He added that following this, from the 700m SHARNEE ROSE was not travelling well and compounded badly over the final 400m. Trainer K. Lees voiced his disappointment in the effort of SHARNEE ROSE and advised stewards he would review the horse's current preparation.

A post race veterinary examination of SHARNEE ROSE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 7: Channel 7 Ipswich Cup – 2150m

DODGING EDDIE (K. Matheson) was slow to begin.

TOPPING (L. Cassidy) raced 3 wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1400m.

Leaving the 700m, TUSKEGEE HAWK (A. Spinks) attempted to shift out around the heels of MASTER AVATAR (T. Bell) and in doing so made heavy contact with MUIRFIELD (E. Wilkinson) and as a result became unbalanced. TUSKEGEE HAWK and MUIRFIELD bumped on a number of occasions following this incident.

SECRET GARDEN (M. Cahill) was forced extremely wide from passing the 600m.

Approaching and rounding the home turn, GOLD CAPE (M. Hellyer) was held up and unable to secure clear running.

GOLD CAPE (M. Hellyer) was held up for clear running over the concluding stages.

L. Innes, ridder of HIGH KIN, was fined $200 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account his good record regarding breaches of this rule.

HIGH KIN lost its off fore plate in running.

Race 8: City of Ipswich Eye Liner Stakes – 1350m

EASY RUNNING (P. Hammersley) jumped very awkwardly and lost considerable ground.

CELTIC DANCER (G. Cooksley) also began awkwardly and lost ground.

Near the 1000m, TAX EVADER (C. Munce) had to be steadied from the heels of JETSET LAD (R. McMahon), which shifted in when not quite clear. R. McMahon, rider of JETSET LAD, was issued with a reprimand and advised to afford his fellow riders with more clearance in future.

TAX EVADER and JETSET LAD raced wide for the majority of the race.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DANCES ON STARS, B. Avdulla stated that the horse travelled quite well in the early and middle stages, however approaching the home turn when pressured, the horse commenced to give ground. B. Avdulla went on to say that DANCES ON STARS continued to give ground in the early part of the straight and he was concerned there may have been something amiss with the horse and therefore he did not place the gelding under any undue pressure over the final 150m. Trainer G. Ryan was unable to offer any tangible explanation other than the gelding may not have handled today's track condition. He also undertook to report to stewards any abnormality that becomes apparent in the days following the event. A post race veterinary examination of DANCES ON STARS revealed the horse was suffering from a mild case of the thumps. A. swab sample was taken.

A post race veterinary examination of EASY RUNNING failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

A post race veterinary examination of MORNING CAPTAIN revealed the horse was suffering from thumps.

Race 9: Schweppes T.L. Cooney QTIS 3yo H'cap – 1350m

The explanation for the late declaration of rider for the late declaration of C. Munce as the rider of HOLD ME TIGHT was accepted.

On return to scale, J. Byrne, rider of the 4th placegetter, GENERAL GOOVE, was granted permission to view the stewards footage to ascertain if he had grounds to lodge an objection against BINGO BOBBY (P. Schmidt) being the 3rd placegetter, alleging interference near the 1200m. After viewing the films, J. Byrne did not wish to proceed.

Correct weight was further delayed when stewards considered an application from the connections of RED HOT DAZZLER to be declared a non runner on the grounds of being denied a fair start. Stewards after hearing evidence the parties concerned, Mr M. Henderson, the official starter, and viewing the patrol films, stewards were satisfied that as the start was effected, RED HOT DAZZLER had its head turned into the adjacent barrier and was, in their opinion, denied a fair start. Acting under the provisions of AR134A, stewards declared RED HOT DAZZLER a non runner at 4.15 pm and ordered all monies invested on Red Hot Dazzler be refunded, with the following deductions applicable.

1 cent in the dollar for the Win #8
2 cents in the dollar for place of winner #8
2 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #1
2 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #19

Leaving the 1200m, STAR SAMMY (L. Innes), when overracing, shifted out abruptly, resulting in GENERAL GROOVE (J. Byrne) and CASINO CARD (R. Wiggins) having to be checked. BINGO BOBBY (P. Schmidt), which was following and also overracing, shifted out from the heels of STAR SAMMY, resulting in GENERAL GROOVE (J. Byrne) being bumped. Following this, the saddle shifted forward on BINGO BOBBY, placing P. Schmidt, rider of BINGO BOBBY, at a disadvantage, and as a result shifted outwards, allowing BINGO BOBBY to stride forward to the outside of FERMENT (M. Cahill). Trainer B. Mayfield-Smith will be advised that an official warning would be placed on STAR SAMMY regarding its racing manners.

FERMENT, GENERAL GOOVE (J. Byrne) and CASINO CARD (R. Wiggins) raced wide throughout.
