Race 1: SKY RACING MAIDEN H’CAP – 1350M
Trainer M. Dunn was fined $100 for presenting ETERNAL HEART (G. Colless) to race without winkers.
OZICROWN (A. Taylor) and SUNDAE DREAMIN' (B. El-Issa) were both slow to begin.
NAMBAWAN (R. Goltz) raced wide without cover throughout.
A. Spinks (MARYLAND) reported that it had not been the intention to lead in the event, however when caught wide without cover he had little option but to allow the mare to stride to the front.
Race 2: IPSWICH COMMUNITY LABOUR DAY RACES QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1350M
PALARA was a late scratching at 9.40 am for veterinary reasons.
Trainer R. Heathcote advised that as VAZ DE TORRES (A. Coome) was a little slow to muster speed in the early stages at its previous start, with the increase in distance of today's event, the gelding will be ridden more handy if circumstances permit. After missing the start VAZ DE TORRES then raced in a mid-field position.
VAZ DE TORRES, MUMBLE BEE (L. Cassidy) and FURRY LEMON (B. Newport) were slow to begin.
EM ONE (T. Wolfgram) began very awkwardly.
BOLD FLIGHT (C. Schmidt) raced three wide without cover and then after the 500m commenced to hang out and shifted wider.
Race 3: LABOUR DAY RACING 7TH OCTOBER MAIDEN PLATE – 2150M
GANGSTA GEORGE (T. Wolfgram) stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground.
GOLD DEAL (R. Goltz) was checked and BEER WITH FRIENDS (M. McKenzie) badly crowded on jumping between GRAND MARNIER (G. Colless), which shifted in, and JUGGLES (S. Sheargold), which was carried out by DOUBLE ROSE (M. Vance), which began awkwardly and shifted out.
Near the winning post on the first occasion MINI PRINNY (R. Jamieson) was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of GRAND MARNIER, and when being steadied, shifted out abruptly, carrying JUGGLES wider for a short distance.
A post-race veterinary examination of GRAND MARNIER, which commenced to give ground from the 800m and failed to finish the race, revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils during the race. Connections were advised that GRAND MARNIER would be ineligible to race for 3 months and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a gallop of at least 1000m in the presence of a steward.
Trainer D. Scanes was advised that a warning would be placed on the performance of JUGGLES, considering its beaten margin.
Trainer P. Kendall was advised that MINI PRINNY, which weakened badly and finished tailed off, would not be permitted to participate at TAB tracks until the horse establishes more competitive form at non-TAB meetings. Ms Kendall advised stewards it is now her intention that MINI PRINNY be retired from racing.
Race 4: THE QUEENSLAND TIMES CLASS 3 H’CAP – 800M
ARKIBOUM (D. Hayse) blundered badly at the start, almost dislodging its rider.
RED SUIT (C. Kearney) and ALL IS GOLD (T. Jeffries) began very awkwardly with their head up.
SUMMER OF GEORGE (G. Colless) began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarter of BOTH EARS (R. Ride).
In the middle stages ALL IS GOLD raced very ungenerously, got its head up and brushed the running rail.
Making the turn near the 500m SUMMER OF GEORGE shifted ground and carried RED SUIT wider. SUMMER OF GEORGE then hung out badly in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of SUMMER OF GEORGE revealed the gelding to be lame in both forelegs. Trainer S. Phelps was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for SUMMER OF GEORGE prior to its next start. Connections advised that it was now the intention to retire the gelding.
Race 5: XXXX GOLD CLASS 2 H’CAP - 1676
TRAPUNTO (B. El-Issa) and SKATE ON BY (A. Holt) were slow to begin.
Near the 1300m PLAYSOVA (T. Wolfgram), which was racing keenly, was checked away from the heels of BALLYBUNION (A. Spinks), which steadied in front.
In the middle stages TRAPUNTO overraced.
Near the 600m PLAYSOVA again became unbalanced when close to the heels of BALLYBUNION.
Apprentice T. Wolfgram (PLAYSOVA) was severely reprimand for improving into a run on the home turn between PATENT PENDING (L. Cassidy) and ROMEO LAD (T. Bell) where in the opinion of the stewards there was never sufficient room and in doing so made contact with the hind quarter of ROMEO LAD which became unbalanced.
Trainer B. Baldwin advised that at the horse's recent starts PATENT PENDING has been performing satisfactorily on rain-affected tracks, however he was of the view that today's firmer track may not have suited the horse, particularly the way in which it compounded over the concluding stages. Mr Baldwin further advised that it would be his recommendation to connections that the gelding now be sent for a spell, however it was to undergo a stable veterinary inspection tomorrow, the results of which he undertook to report to stewards.
Race 6: CITY OF IPSWICH CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M
INFAMOUS (N. Nishio) was slow to begin.
THE ZEDHORSE (A. Spinks) began awkwardly.
ETRANGERE (A. Merritt) was crowded on jumping between QUANTUM SHADOW (B. El-Issa) and SAMMY JUNIOR (P. Hammersley), which shifted in.
Near the 800m MRS ASIA (R. Jamieson) was steadied when awkwardly placed inside of QUANTUM SHADOW.
Apprentice R. Ride was reminded of her obligations regarding the use of the whip on horses out of contention.
Race 7: OPTUS CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1350M
Near the 1000m SO DOMINANT (A. Allen) became badly crowded when checked and clipped the heels of BARRASSIE BROTHER (G. Colless) when that horse, which was proving difficult, got its head up on a number of occasions and shifted in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of DALINGI (R. Ride). While the check was one of some significance, stewards were of the view that leading up to the incident SO DOMINANT had improved up inside of BARRASSIE BROTHER and when G. Colless became aware of this and endeavoured to relieve the pressure, his horse continued to shift in despite his efforts. G. Colless was nevertheless reprimanded for initially allowing his horse to shift in prior to the incident. When SO DOMINANT checked, it shifted out resulting in NO WIN NO WINE being restrained and its rider J. Byrne losing his right stirrup for a short distance.
Near the 900m SMAKATUS (S. Fawke) became unbalanced when racing tight to the inside of BARRASSIE BROTHER.
For some distance in the straight SMAKATUS raced in restricted room between BARRASSIE BROTHER and A SHADE BETTER (C. Schmidt).
Race 8: CHANNEL 7 CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M
STRONGHOLD, which sustained an injury whilst being floated to the track, was declared a late scratching at 2.20 pm on veterinary advice. Trainer K. Kemp was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for STRONGHOLD prior to its next start.
After being boxed LAKE MOUNTAIN (J. Letherby) reared and sat down momentarily. During this incident the bridle was displaced. Once refitted, the horse was removed from the gates, examined and passed fit to start. Because of this the start was delayed slightly. LAKE MOUNTAIN then began awkwardly, shifted in, brushed its gate and then bumped DESTINY'S ANGEL (A. Spinks). Trainer N. Saunders was advised that because of the horse's behaviour in the barrier a warning would be placed against the mare.
In the early and middle stages ROYALE CROWN (P. Hammersley) overraced badly and got its head up.
From the 700m ROYALE CROWN continued to race very greenly, hung out badly and shifted extremely wide towards the outside rail. The performance of ROYALE CROWN was considered unacceptable. Trainer T. Sears was advised that the horse will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial before being permitted to start again. A post-race veterinary examination of ROYALE CROWN did not reveal any abnormality.
