As B. El-Issa arrived on course without a satisfactory medical clearance as required under AR. 81F(3) following being indisposed at Sunshine Coast on 26 October, he was stood down from his rides in Races 4 and 6 and riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: SKY RACING WORLD CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1690M
TARTAN WARRIOR – Rider J. Byrne explained that the tempo mid-race was only moderate and as he has done previously he elected to allow the horse to stride forward from the 700m as the horse is not one that is able to sprint when the pace quickens. He said despite this TARTAN WARRIOR did not respond and was a beaten horse prior to the home turn and in his opinion was most disappointing. He added that there appeared to be no obvious issues with TARTAN WARRIOR other than in his opinion it raced like a tired horse and he had recommended to connections that the horse should be spelled. Trainer B. Guy confirmed that the horse would be sent for an immediate spell.
TISANI STAR – Steadied when crowded near the 1500m. After this the horse then overraced. Apprentice J. Orman (KURRAJONG DRAGON) was reprimanded for causing the crowding.
Race 2: XXXX GOOD AS GOLD F&M MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M
COUNTRY CHARM – Trainer P. Strong advised that the horse would be ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit.
GAYLEN – Trainer T. Thomas advised that the horse would be ridden in a rearward position with cover. Rider R. Jamieson explained that her instructions were to have the horse ridden in a rearward position, however the trainer specifically said that in the early stages it should be ridden somewhat aggressively to ensure it maintained contact with the field. She said as a result of this she was caught without cover in the early stages and to avoid being three wide she elected to allow GAYLEN to proceed forward where it then commenced to overrace for some distance until able to gain cover.
EXCITING DOLL – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages and was steadied from heels near the 1000m.
Race 3: BUNDABERG RUM C,G&E MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M
REAL DYNAMITE – Raced three wide throughout.
TAKE ME TO PARIS – Slow to begin.
SPURS ON – Trainer P. Strong advised that from the inside barrier the horse would be ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Slow to begin.
Race 4: OPTUS CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1350M
On pulling up, T. Wolfgram dismounted and required ambulance attention which prevented him from weighing in on the 4th placegetter TRACEY'S ANGEL. Acting under the provisions of AR.142, as stewards were satisfied that apprentice Wolfgram had weighed out correctly and were of the opinion that he carried his correct weight, they declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored.
SIGMUND – Bounded on jumping.
GET ON – Trainer T. Thomas advised that the horse would be ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. The horse failed to muster early speed and raced in a rearward position.
ALBERT'S CHOICE – Raced three wide throughout.
UNDER THE LEANER – Hung out badly rounding the home turn and proved difficult to ride in the straight.
Race 5: SCHWEPPES C,G&E CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1100M
CASH IN – Saddle shifted back in the early stages of the race. Clipped heels and dipped near the 700m when overracing.
TWISTED MOUNTAIN – Restrained when crowded near the 500m. Apprentice L. Tarrant (CASH IN) was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in.
SWERVE – Inconvenienced and had to be restrained at the 900m, then raced very keenly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained a laceration inside the near hind fetlock.
PURCHASED – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Inconvenienced on straightening.
ASTERIX – Slow to begin.
